🎙️ Join Yasmine @yasmineouir and our latest guest Aymeric @farafinamasade on the newest episode of the We Belong podcast as we explore the journey marked by resilience and pride of a French citizen who self-identifies as “Afropean” and a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ Community living in Luxembourg. 🌍🇱🇺⚧️🏳️🌈
In this episode, it becomes clear that the tale of cultural exchange and cross-cultural identity is one of many Europeans. Acknowledging how systemic mechanisms and unaddressed inequalities directly impact the lives of minority groups in Europe is crucial in adapting institutional policies and providing sustainable change. Aymeric’s narrative exemplifies the emergence of a new generation of European Citizens who are determined to bring all aspects of their unique being to the table. The intricate and complex geopolitical dynamics at the origin of the creation of European Nations are visibly shaping people’s perceptions of themselves and others and must be integrated into the current conversations. 🇪🇺✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

Inspired by @ghazalmia brave quest to find a new place to call home after she lost hers in Syria, we decided to reach out to her and ask for some word of advice for our community.
Hers is a story of resilience, excellence and above all it stands as proof that nothing can come in the way of your dreams.
"If you want to get the best out of [#refugees], who are actually resources and they can add value to the community, you should start accepting them. Because otherwise, you have the problem that you have this group of people who does not feel at home here, not at home back where they were born. That's just a waste of space, of human resources and a waste of talent."
In our latest podcast episode, football superstar Nadia Nadim talks about the challenges she faced in #Denmark, in acquiring Danish citizenship and in feeling part of Danish society. Despite growing up in Denmark, going to school there and working there, it took her 7-8 years to become Danish on paper, while at heart, she already was Danish. Unfortunately, this is the reality of many people around the world and also in Denmark.
Recent articles published in November 2021 by DR Nyheder state that some 71,000 people in Denmark have to go through this years-long process of gaining Danish citizenship, despite being born in Denmark, growing up in Denmark, building a career in Denmark, and ultimately despite Denmark being their home. Interviewees in the articles describe this process as extremely challenging and discriminative, as it sends the message that they do not belong to Danish society.
We are here to remind Denmark and countries around the world, that we, #BIPOC and people from marginalized groups, BELONG 🌎 and most of all, we are here to shape the future of our countries!

Did you know that our latest podcast guest released a new song? 🥳
In her own words Thérèse describes 'Skin Hunger' as "the heartbreaking wail of a lack of skin, flesh and humanity that our algorithms wish to silence. Limbs turned into landscapes. Beautiful, diverse, abstract, absent, noisy, virtual. Which more than ever disturb. Because they say too much while showing nothing, in a world used to showing everything while saying so little."

Microaggressions refer to daily verbal behaviors/communications or environment actions considered small, common and often ambiguous, maybe even trivial. They are often delivered by well-intentioned people not even conscious of committing an aggression. Whether intentional or unintentional, these actions cause hurt and pain, especially as they build up over a day and a lifetime.
They are a daily reminder to minorities that they don’t belong. Microaggressions can be more or less subtle, yet they build exclusion.
@jazmynjw shares useful content related to micro aggressions on TikTok and instagram - check her out 🥰
