The backers of the Building Bridges Initiative must stop lying to the country that it was the only route to increasing resources to the counties, Deputy President William Ruto has said.

He said the BBI proponents must forward their proposal on the additional resources to the devolved units of government to Parliament if they were true to the cause.

“Counties can still be given more funds through Parliament without the conmanship in the BBI,” he said.

He explained that even the creation of additional constituencies was feasible without taking the country through the unnecessarily and costly route of amending the Constitution.

“If Kenyans were in need of more constituencies, then the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission would have been engaged.”

RUTO, BBI, KIRINYAGA, AUG. 22 - DPPS

Deputy President William Ruto has urged leaders from across the political divide to work together to get the country back on its growth path.

The Deputy President said the Judiciary's ruling halting Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) had given the country a golden chance to re-evaluate Kenya’s development priorities.

“Now, let us agree to embark on the plans that we had like the Big Four that had been stalled by BBI,” said Dr Ruto.

He spoke today during church services at Anglican Church of Kenya St Luke's Church Wang'uru and AIPCA Rurii Church in Kirinyaga County.

Deputy President William Ruto has said it is time the country realigned its conversation to that of the empowerment of Kenyans rather than the creation of power for a selected few.

He said he would not be intimidated into abandoning the empowerment of the youth and women, arguing it is such a move that would form the basis for a discussion that leans towards people-centred issues.

“For more than half a century, we have had a wrong conversation that has been heavy on ethnicity. That is why the country is still suffering from poverty,” he said.

Dr Ruto spoke today at his Karen residence where he empowered more than 70 youth groups drawn from Nairobi County.

Deputy President William Ruto has asked civil servants to stop politicking and focus on implementing the Jubilee administration's development agenda.

He said civil servants should focus on fulfilling the pledges the Party made to Kenyans during the last General election.

"I urge those of us who got the opportunity to serve at different levels in Government to stop cheap politics; let us put aside our pride, show humility while discharging our duties and stop hurling insults to each other.”

Dr Ruto asked civil servants interested in pursuing elective positions that this was not the right time to do so.

He spoke during a church service at Anglican Church of Kenya St Paul's Athi River in Machakos County.

He was accompanied by MPs Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), Victor Munyaka (Machakos), Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu), Rahab Mukami (Woman Rep, Nyeri) and former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama.

Deputy President William Ruto has asked the Orange Democratic Movement to stop their double-speak on issues of corruption in the country.

He criticised the opposition party’s “double-standards” position on the vice, saying that it was glaring, loud and obvious.

“They have been lecturing us to resign, step aside, take political responsibilities and even asking people to be taken to courts on corruption allegations. Today, the tune has changed to waiting for professional audits,” Dr Ruto said today at his Karen residence in Nairobi during a meeting with religious leaders.

He said ODM was pushing for the special audit as a strategy to sanitise some of its members who had been deeply involved in the COVID-19 pandemic scandals.

“All investigative agencies in Kenya are independent. They do not need lectures on what to do. They will certainly act at the right time,” added.

RUTO, NANDI, MARCH 13, 2020

Deputy President William Ruto has cautioned political leaders against abandoning their pre-election pledges to the people.

He said it was unfortunate that some leaders were now focused on cheap political schemes at the expense of the needs of the people.

The Deputy President told those planning for his impeachment to first ensure they have addressed the challenges facing the people they serve.

“When we went for elections, we made promises and outlined our agenda to the people. Let us not be con men. Let us fulfill the promises we made to Kenyans,” he said.

The Deputy President spoke today in Nandi County where he launched various development projects.
