Imagine:

Israelite mothers walking through the wilderness with their little ones in tow.

How did they raise a family in that kind of environment?

How did they raise them to love the Lord?

How did they teach them everything they needed to know?

The answer is simple, yet profound:

Singing.

As the exiled Israelites traveled back from Babylon to Jerusalem… what did they do?

They likely sang the Songs of Ascent found in Psalm 120-134 — also called the Pilgrim Songs.

They taught their children the truth of God’s Word by song.

Even though most of us today aren’t traveling through the literal wilderness, raising family is no easy task.

Life moves fast in the 21st century.

And honestly, sometimes it can feel like we’re just traveling from place to place like the Israelites did in their day.

Where do we find the time to bring up our children in the fear and admonition of the Lord?

One answer is to follow the example of the Israelites:

Sing with your children.

The new Hi-Contrast Hymn Book series exists to help you sing with your family.

In just 5 minutes a day, you can teach your children the most beloved hymns of the Christian faith.

The book’s bold shapes and black-and-white illustrations will catch your child’s attention as they soak up the songs you're singing to them.

And you’ve got a chance to pre-order your very own copy before the Kickstarter ends!

All it takes is a few minutes at the link below to immediately reserve your copy:

This story always gets me choked up:

A mad cow charged at Perpetua.

The Romans had set the beast loose in the gladiatorial arena to kill Perpetua because she would not recant her love for Christ.

After the cow failed to kill her, the Romans sent out a gladiator to finish the job.

Perpetua, a Christian in 203 AD, was one of the early martyrs. And she had a lot to live for.

Just months prior, at the age of 22, she had given birth to a beautiful baby boy.

Mothers should be enjoying cuddles with their newborns at that stage, not dodging swords and beasts.

But she was… and it was because of her love for Christ.

Not only were the Romans demanding she recant her faith, her father pleaded with her to just say, “Caesar is Lord,” and she could have her baby in her arms once again. I imagine every time she thought of her little baby, she considered recanting. I would be.

It's just a few words, right?

But she wouldn't.

She wouldn't turn her back on Christ, even if it meant leaving behind her precious baby boy.

And even though that baby boy grew up without his mother, he grew up with something even more important:

He grew up with a vivid example that Christ is worth everything.

Even though she was only 22 years old, she left that little boy a rich legacy of faith.

Do you think that had an impact on him?

Every now and then I stumble upon Perpetua’s story in a book or a blog post.

It always gets me thinking about this:

What legacy am I leaving for my children?

Will they be concerned only with the things of this world…
…or will they be able to say, “My daddy and mommy loved Christ more than anything else, and I will, too.”

That is exactly why I created the Hi-Contrast Hymn Book.

Is the Hi-Contrast Hymn Book the only way to leave that kind of legacy?

Of course not.

But by God's grace, it can be a way for your children to hear the love of Christ in your voice as you sing to them.

I think that’s important. I’m sure you get it, too.

If you want to leave behind a legacy of singing God’s praises to your children, click the link in the first comment to see how the Hi-Contrast Hymn Book can help you do that.

We’re more than halfway through the Kickstarter campaign!
