MARILYN.
Over the holidays, my family and I lost my grandmother, Marilyn, to a fight with COVID. This little project has been my way of saying goodbye to her life, in the way that it was, and trying to reconnect with her, in the way that she is right now.
Anyone who knew Marilyn knew that she was nothing if not herself. Most times, that manifested in all the amazing ways that made up who she was. Early in the morning, from the comfort of her massive recliner, she would go down "the list" (which was an actual, physical list) and call everyone that she thought about daily. If you were like myself, these calls would come in at the worst possible time and were often sent to voicemail.
That didn't stop Marilyn.
In my own experience, she had recurring topics that she always tried to make sure were covered. Questions were asked. Love was expressed. That was Marilyn. In this last voicemail, I tried to compile those topics together.
I think about her daily and will miss her dearly as long as I can remember her sweet, cheery (again, often poorly timed) morning voice over the phone. If you have a few minutes to spare, spend some time remembering Marilyn with me.
