We had a value at The Collectives: Authenticity is Essential.
What we learned over the years of leading the church is that authenticity has a cost. The world and everything in it is changing. And in many ways, so are you. You are growing, developing, becoming a more refined version of you…or at least you should be.
If you stay attentive, you may begin to see that a season shifts. It is not that you have changed, but the circumstances you stand in have. Look at it like the tide. When the tide is high you can stand on the shore and the waves crash knee high bringing with it sealife and seashells. When the tide has washed back out, you are standing in the same place, but the water is further from you.
You didn’t move. The tide did.
Remaining authentic is a matter of holding your position, your integrity, your calling, your divine design of the Lord whether the tide is high or low. Remaining authentic means you do not move even when the tide rolls out.
Remaining authentic means not chasing the tide. It is not changing who you are, who you are called to be simply to be carried out by the waves. If you begin to chase the tide, it will carry you out without your knowing. You will look back at the shore and wonder how you got so far out, so far from who you once were.
The cost of authenticity is to remain integrous to the God given design of your life and calling when the tide of changes try to draw you off the shore. It is being resolved in who you were designed to be. The cost of authenticity may even lead to leaving that beach to find new water to wade into. Yet, this price paid will keep you you. Unchanged by the changing tide.
Be authentic. Live with integrity to who God has called you to be.
