In the midst of ridicule and ostracism, q***r people have continually created codes to wear their identities on their sleeve. Fashion is where Lewk magazine spotlights the q***r community’s innovations in communication.

Green carnations for gay men and lavender for le****ns are some of the first additions to formal dress which indicated sexuality. Leather and Dr. Marten’s continue to be embraced, paying homage to the origins of q***r signaling in the 1940s and protests in the 1980s respectively. As politicians continue to encroach on our rights, we draw from our roots in fashion, honoring our ancestors who fought so we can be seen.

We are everywhere. We have always had ways to close ranks and commune with one another. We will continue to celebrate ourselves, for ourselves. Even if it goes out of fashion with those who would like to see us disappear.

Strength and perseverance. Virtues that have always been spoken of, passed down from one generation to the next. The obstacles we face are numerous - prejudice, racism, discrimination, the list goes on. The strength to face these obstacles, the will to persevere when the burden feels too heavy to hold, this power comes from the AAPI community. We hold on to this rope tight and fast, not only for ourselves, but for those who will come after us. We come together to face this, to build a strong foundation, to remind ourselves who we are.

There is a certain joy in finding community within the place wherever the winds of life take you. The ties that bind us together in this dance of life are so simple, yet strong. Step into a kaleidoscope of color, light, and movement. Kaleidoscope is all about contrasts, where vibrant hues, shifting patterns, and textures collide to create a mesmerizing dance between reality and illusion.

Go Bold: Dive into a spectrum of bold colors; for example: electric blues, fuchsia, molten gold, and emerald greens. Think oil-slick fabrics, holographic details, and sequins that shimmer in the light. Layer patterns and reflective materials for a look that’s as dynamic as a kaleidoscope.

The theme around Earth Day 2025 advocates for a tripling of renewable energy generation by 2030 to fully harness the potential of our planet’s resources. It focuses on the power of individuals to take action and advocate for a sustainable future.

Timed around Earth Day, we are introducing a first look into Issue No. 8: SYNTHETIC, launching May 3rd.
An issue where we explore how the innovations of synthetic materials push us toward a balance between progress and preservation.
