In celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity, we present "VOICES OF SIBUYAN." A community-produced documentary on local biodiversity conservation.
Synopsis:
One of the Philippines' most remote islands, Sibuyan has remained geographically isolated since its formation. The island has been dubbed the "Galapagos of Asia," attributed to its high rate of endemic species and rich biodiversity. The island's inhabitants, known as Sibuyanons, have deep cultural and social connections with the island's biodiversity as they depend on it for their day-to-day lives and survival. This documentary highlights the interdependent relationship Sibuyanons have with nature and sheds light on the critical roles they play in local biodiversity conservation. By integrating voices from various stakeholders and community sectors, we hope to amplify marginalized narratives and provide a platform for local members to communicate their knowledge, norms, practices, concerns, and goals in regards to their local biodiversity. May this film serve as a tool and inspiration for Sibuyanons to see themselves as active participants in the conservation and protection of the island they call home.
Stay tuned at One Islander Vision home page on May 22nd for the initial release of the documentary.
