From Flying squirrels to swamp m**hane, we’ve had a blast chatting to our guests this series. Thank you to all of them for joining us!

Especially considering they often give us much more of their time than we can fit into a single episode. So, as a little treat, we’re giving you some of the bits we had to cut out…

Tune in tomorrow at 5pm to hear some extra content from both the tasting rooms and the main episodes from this series.

Cheers!

Want to learn about som**hing amazing and scary? It’ll be in a Doctor Who episode before we know it… No, it’s not an alien discovery.

This week we’re learning all about CRISPR from Soren Hough. Soren is a writer and a scientist who completed a PhD in Biochemistry at Cambridge. He has been working with and writing about CRISPR since 2014 and is currently a Visiting Scientist in the DNA repair laboratory of Prof Sir Steve Jackson.

He’s going to answer the question, CRISPR: What is it, why is it both amazing and scary, and what does this new technological power mean for society?

And if you haven’t already, go and listen to our tasting room to meet Emma and the Everleaf Marine we’ll be drinking

We joke about nature vs nurture a lot on this podcast but this week we’re looking at environment and how it might affect children’s health. So less ‘does Áine’s swearing come from Sarah’ and more ‘is green space really that important?’

Our guest is Pia Hardelid, a Professor of Epidemiology at the University College London. Pia is leading a project called the Kids’ Environment and Health Cohort which is setting up a new national data resource for research into how the local environment affects children’s health as they grow up in England. She’s going to help us answer the question: how can we understand the relationship between children’s health and the environments they grow up in?

Join us tomorrow at 5pm to find out! And if you haven’t already, go and listen to our tasting room to meet Pia and the Clean G we’ll be drinking

Cheers!

Is integrity just a buzzword used in romance dramas? Not this week!

We’re talking all things Scientific Integrity with our guest, Dr Simone Cuff. Simone is a biomedical researcher who currently works with a major scientific publisher checking scientific papers for research integrity issues and signs of fraud. She’s going to help us answer the question: What are the incentives that mean that people who have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of truth twist that truth?

Flying Squirrels! Less popular than flying pigs but perhaps more important?

This week we’re joined by Jeremy Howard - PhD student at the University of Missouri St. Louis in the US. He’s currently studying bumblebees but his previous work was on flying squirrels, so as we’ve already talked about bees with Hamish back in series 1, we decided that flying squirrels deserved some airtime instead (get that, airtime!!!)

You might trust us to share factual science but how do we know we can trust what we read?

This week were joined by Emma Smith. They’re a Journal Development Editor at eLife, an independent nonprofit committed to improving the way scientific research is reviewed and communicated. Emma’s going to be chatting to us about sharing science and answering the questions: How do we know what science to trust and does that process work? What can we do to improve it?
