NIGHTCLUB CHRONICLES

CHAPTER 5

I braced myself for the coming onslaught. I had often heard that the best form of defence is attack. Of the three of them who approached us, the first to reach was the guy in white. I didn't wait for him to attack first; I welcomed him with a hook on his chin. He fell on the table and scattered all the drinks. I aimed a solid kick on his stomach.

Pandemonium had broken out. He rose from the floor and all three of them came at me at the same time. However, Tercy and Nessa hadn't been idle. Tercy broke a bottle on the short one's head and he started bleeding from the cut that resulted from the impact. The third tried to rush at Nessa and slipped, lost his balance and pushed another guy who had come to separate us. The guy, while falling, pushed another guy who fell on a table where a birthday was being celebrated. Fresh fighting started on that table too.

Bottles were flying everywhere. It had become a free for all fight. In the heat of the scuffle, I didn't realize I had been wounded and was bleeding. It was Nessa who drew my attention to it. I got a paper napkin and tried to stem the flow of blood but the guy in white rushed to me again and was greeted by my favourite move; a hard kick in his stomach. He fell on the floor, writhing in pains.

All the bouncers in the club were deployed to bring things back to order but they were unsuccessful. Finally, the police were called. Five police came into the club and tried to stop the fighting. They failed. One of them fired a shot at the ceiling. The sound of the gun caused everyone to freeze. The arrests began.

Several of us were taken into custody. I was grabbed by two policemen and handcuffed. in the days when things were fine, I would have fought them. Now however, I couldn't dare. I was half dragged outside the club and forced into the police van. I resisted. They tried again to get me inside but failed.

Chapter 4

He came close to me and pushed me. His breath stank of cheap alcohol and this got me annoyed the most. I fell on the soft sofa in the VIP section. As I tried to support myself while falling backwards, the bottle I was holding, fell on the floor and broke.

I picked the bottle and aimed at his head. He dodged just in time and gave me a hard punch in the tummy. The force of the punch almost knocked me out. He was big and huge, reason why they had selected him to fight for them. I realized that I was in a difficult situation and decided to change strategy.

I climbed onto the soft sofa so that I could match his height. I aimed a kick at his groin that made him stagger for some fifteen seconds and bent double, holding his crotch, his eyes in excruciating pain. The fifteen seconds was all I needed. I jumped down from the chair and punched his stomach hard. He staggered backwards, regained himself and came at me. I sidestepped quickly and pushed him from behind. He fell heavily on the sofa and I gave him another solid kick in his stomach.

By now the club was in disarray. People were running helter skelter for safety. Girls were screaming and ducking behind tables. The DJ didn't seem to notice us. He kept playing his music. I didn't see any bouncer too who could help stop the fight. I was going to finish him off with a punch in the face when I was held from behind by his there friends. I was in danger here but just then, four hefty bouncers showed up and separated us.

"What happened here?" The one who seemed to be their leader asked.
"These guys attacked me?" I said, breathing heavily. "I had to defend myself."
"What exactly happened?" The bouncer asked, turning in the direction of the guys.
They refused to answer. As a result, they were all escorted out of the club. One of them raised his hand as they were leaving and made a motion at me as if to say "this is not over yet". I ignored him.

CHAPTER 3

Her tongue was soft, very soft and her mouth tasted like caramel. I couldn't believe that I was doing that in a club. I felt like everyone had stopped dancing and was watching us. When I separated from her, I realized I was just suffering from what we call in Psychology , "imaginary audience". No one was even looking our way except for one guy dressed in white and seated by the counter.

Tessy was busy dancing but I could bet she was viewing us by the corner of her eyes. We started kissing again and my hand moved up to her chest.

"Hey!! Watch your hand" She said, half-heartedly.

"Why?"

"Bad boy"

I laughed and was about to unbutton her shirt when the club lights changed and suddenly brightened. I quickly adjusted. The guy in white was still intently watching us. The lights dimmed again and I was about to resume what I was doing when Tessy moved up to us. I was terribly vexed by the interruption.

She sat close to Nessa and whispered something in her ears. A second later, they both moved to the toilet. I waited for a short while and followed them. The female toilet was separated from the male one. It was therefore only logical if anyone wondered what I was doing at the female toilet.

When I got to the entrance, I was stopped by a beefy and muscular bouncer.

"What do you want here?" He asked.

"My girlfriend is inside" I told him. "I need to talk to her urgently."

"You can't, I mean you won't" He said in his thick voice.

"Look here boy, there's no cause for alarm. I just need to talk to the girl. I will be out again before you know it."

He showed me his palm and I understood immediately. I reached into my pocket and pulled a two thousand Frs. bill. I gave it to him and he let me in. I went into the hallway that led into the various urinary for girls. I found no one there. I couldn't just open the doors to the toilets. Anybody could be inside and I didn't fancy being slapped b

CHAPTER 2

We were comfortably seated at the VIP section. The club was beautifully lit with all the recent rotating bulbs. The DJ was specialized in playing old school Naija and early 90s and 2000s slow jam; my favourite.

I am not the dancing type so I chose to sit and watch how Tercy danced alone. The waitress showed up and asked if she could get us drinks. I didn't have money on me so I decided to take something cheaper, but I was told that except for wine and whiskey, all the drinks cost the same. I ordered Harp and Tercy did same. We sipped our drinks slowly and watched as the other clubbers danced. Suddenly, two boys showed up and moved to our tables. I got uncomfortable immediately. They looked rugged and one of them even wreaked of alcohol. It is evident they had been drinking.

Just as I was trying to get comfortable with the two guys who had invaded our privacy, two others joined them. I immediately hated the face of one of the two new guys. He had a terrible behaviour and was already eyeing Tercy. I was about to call him on it but Tercy realized it could start trouble and stopped me.

"Please be careful, those guys look dangerous and you are all alone. You have to be careful" She warned.

"Then he has to stop making passes at you or I am going to punch him. "

"You better not. I want you to leave this place in one piece." She said.

" But I am not scared of them"

"But you should. They look dangerous and those "dossier" bags they are carrying, anything could be inside".

I was thinking about what she had said when her phone rang. She picked. It was one of her close friends. Since the music was loud, she put the phone on speaker.

"Baby baby!!" I heard the other voice say. "This one that I am hearing music in the background, where are you at this time of the night?"

"My friend, hmmm! I am at Double Dose" She responded.

"Ashawo!! Who are you with? Tell me. Is it a new catch?"

NIGHTCLUB CHRONICLES

CHAPTER 1

It was a boring Friday. It was 9:00 PM and I was reclining on a sofa, watching on a giant TV ,Wolf Blitzer of CNN talking to Dr Anthony Fauci about the deadly Coronavirus. My phone was charging beside me and from time to time, I went to check if it had finished charging. Not that the phone wouldn't notify me when it was done charging. I was just impatient.

I had just left the sofa to go check my phone went it rang. I picked immediately. The voice on the other end was that of a female.

"You picked the call as if you were waiting" She said.

"Yeah" I said, laughing. "I had the phone in my hand when the call came in."

"How are you doing today?" She asked.

"Good and you?"

"Perfect"

It was Tercy, my younger sister's friend. I wondered why she was calling at that time. We hadn't talked in a while.

"What's your program this night?" She asked.

"I am home. Watching CNN."

"You and CNN, it's only death that will pull you guys apart."

We laughed.

"I want us to go clubbing this night." She continued. "Are you in?"

"Of course I am. But I don't have money. I am very down on my luck these days." I told her.

"Don't worry. It's taken care of. I will take care of the bills." She announced.

"Wow!!!" I exclaimed. "Who have you been scamming recently?" I joked.

"Foolish boy." She joked. "I came into some small money yesterday. I want us to go grind it."

"Ok. Where are you right now?" I asked.

"Home. Preparing to go out."

"Give me ten minutes. I have bathed already. Let me put on an outfit worthy of nightclub business" I told her.

"Ok, hurry"

"Bye for now."

I ran into the bedroom and put on a shiny white T Shirt, a pair of blue ripped jeans, white sneakers and since it was a cold night, a grey fitting jacket. I brushed my hair and combed my beard to perfection. I sprayed so much perfume that I almost choked on it.

So today I went to charge my phone at my neighbors apartment.

You know na, light issues, and he was the only one that has generator.

So immediately the gen was on.. That was how almost all the boys in the neighborhood fast forward to his apartment..

we were actually 10+ in the room.

We were charging our phone, so I specifically was charging and pressing my phone at the same time.

Just then I shouted. "E don enter".

I stood up from the chair where I was seated immediately.

Just then the owner of the apartment touched me.
