Public Transit is the backbone for people's movement, and it should go hand in hand in any conversations about new development. Designing and planning transit services should follow the demographics and development of a neighbourhood, creating a balance between supply and demand to satisfy transit equity, accessibility and connectivity. Come check out my new video about how to include transit in new neighbourhoods of cities!

Before watching this video, I highly recommend you checking out my previous video on this topic: https://youtu.be/TikFa_lzpaE?si=Tyi0inWd_Jf6qHmh Public tran...

When the train passes, the city comes to a standstill

📍Idylwyld/25th rail crossing

Railways are an important component in moving people and goods regionally and intercity; in fact, both Canada and the US were built on railways. However, as population grows and new conflict points emerge, it is generally important to upgrade the infrastructure or provide reasonable crossing time to not disrupt traffic movement of city services, like transit!

📍Hermannstraße

Cities often talk about the need for active transportation infrastructures, but how they implement them is another different story. Many places in the US and Canada implemented them as a checklisted item and then wondered why no one uses them. The answer is simple; if it's not safe, it's not usable.

This bike lane from Hermannstraße in Berlin is a good example of a low-cost and quick way to add a safe bike lane to the street. Don't need fancy concrete, just some concrete and steel bollards that can damage cars and stand still if vehicles hit them. This allows basic separation and vehicles would not invade bikes' spaces.

Under the Bridge

Highways shouldn't exist within city centres and inner-city neighbourhoods, but transitways for buses are an exception.

📍Hilliard Street Pedestrian Bridge
2018 Nova Bus LFS.
Saskatoon Transit no.1803 on Route 15 to Downtown Terminal. This route is considered the shuttle bus of all transit operators since it connected the bus depot to downtown where they can start and end their shifts. It used to exclusively serve only transit operators and city's staff when it opened in 2015, but now serving the general public.

Nope, no reels or videos today because I want to talk about this "itzy-bitzy-tiny-troubly" part of short-form content, as I've been creating them in the last 1.5 years! They are fun and entertaining, but they're not that educational, even if you did learn something!

But, don't stop watching them! They are a good way to gauge your interests about certain topics!

EP13: Cities and Colours

Do you realize our cities are having fewer colours? From buildings, to street surfaces, to brands' logos, things are kinda sharing the same tone. They are quite close to a grey-ish colour, which was literally defined as "the colour without a colour".

The decline of public arts and diversity of paint colours come from various reasons: from budgets, to building codes, to vandalism; and it can negatively impact the well-being of cities.

Public art may be seen as a luxury especially when cities are struggling financially, but it is an important component for the creation of public spaces and spheres.

Happy Women's Day! 💁‍♀️👧

Today we're celebrating women in all diversity! 💁‍♀️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️This is a day to remind us that we need to build safer and more convenient transit environment for female and women riders!

I wish all of you ladies never miss your bus for your commutes!

Photo Friday: Lining Up

Whenever I see bus terminals having parallel platforms like this, the buses stopping to load and wait parallel to each other like this give me a feeling like they are lining up getting ready for a busy race.

Photo Friday: A Quick Turn

I'm not good at literature enough to be an English teacher, but I can tell how precipitate the life of a bus and its driver can be from this photo, especially when it was taken at a rush hour!

Toronto Streetcar is a decent high-capacity light rail system in downtown Toronto, or more like Old Toronto. With 9 streetcar routes moving almost half-a-million people per day, the system carries the highest per-capita ridership of any light rail system in Canada

The subruban buses run on one-way loops collecting and connecting passengers to LRT stations. In my opinion this seems pretty limited if someone living far enough from the terminus points needs to go on the opposite direction of the loop!

Late to the party but here's Photo Friday: The old within the new.

Regardless of cities, the old New Flyers had sparked my love for transit and the creation of this blog, and I'm really intimidated to see this 2001 NFI in Vancouver! And it's nice to see it's blending in with the new architecture and buildings around!

Back at it again with "Ride of the Day". This is the oldest fleet of Saskatoon Transit as of right now. For this reason, it was nicknamed Elder Bus by me!

Some fun facts: all of these units are add-ons to a 2002 order from Edmonton Transit. For this reason, if you go to Edmonton and ride these 2002 NFIs, they look the exact same as ours!

Back at it again with "Ride of the Day"!

Some fun facts: this is one of the last 2 units of 2008 Hybrid NewFlyers that is still active in Saskatoon! Hybrid buses used to be the most advanced fleet we had in the late 2000s when the DART Transit network was launched, but as time goes by, they are becoming more and more deteriorating, sadly!

Let's see if I can cover all fleet types of Saskatoon Transit through this little series!
