বর্তমান প্রেক্ষাপটে চলমান ছাত্র আন্দোলনে জল ঢেলে দেয়ার জন্যও এই কৌশল অনুমিতভাবেই ব্যবহৃত হবে। স্যাবোটাজের সমূহ সম্ভাবনা আছে নানাবিধ উপায়ে। দায়ভার বর্তাবে প্রধান অপোজিশনগুলোর উপর। মিডিয়া অত্যন্ত সুচারুভাবে ক্ষমতাসীনদের ন্যারেটিভ প্রচার করবে বরাবরের মতই। জনগণ ও ছাত্র-শিক্ষার্থীদের মনোযোগ ও মনোবল অন্যত্র নেয়ার জন্য সমস্ত আয়োজনই করা হবে। পশ্চিমা বিশ্বকে বোঝানো হবে যাবতীয় অপকর্মের পেছনে দায়ী— বিরোধী রাজনৈতিক দলগুলো। হেফাজত কিংবা চরমোনাই বেশি সক্রিয় হলেই সেই পুরনো ইসলামী সন্ত্রাসবাদ কিংবা জংগীবাদ মাথা চাড়া দিয়েছে বলে, ক্র‍্যাক ডাউনকে জাস্টিফায়েড করে নেয়া হবে। হাজার হলেও পশ্চিমাবিশ্ব ইসলামী জনবলের বিশাল উপস্থিতিকে অবশ্যই নেতিবাচকভাবে গ্রহন করবে। সেই সুযোগে এতোদিনের কষ্টার্জিত আন্দোলন এবং শত-শত ছাত্র-জনতার আত্মত্যাগ ও হয়রানিকে আরেক দফা বুড়ো আঙুল দেখিয়ে পাওয়ারকে কনসোলিডেইট করার এনাফ স্পেইস তৈরী হয়ে যাবে।

Despite the heavy rain, more than 50,000 (Fifty Thousand) people from various parts of the capital have gathered at Shaheed Minar to join a rally protesting the killings during the quota reform protests and demanding the release of all arrested students and individuals.

Groups of protesters from Dhanmondi, Rabindra Sarobar, Press Club, Paltan, and Badda had begun their march towards Shaheed Minar earlier in the day.

Undeterred by the adverse weather conditions, the crowd continues to swell as more people arrive to express their solidarity and demand justice.

In addition to the students, people from different professions have also joined the movement. Teachers held rallies against the violence inflicted on students, while lawyers protested the killings. Doctors rallied against the attacks on students, and working professionals expressed their solidarity with the movement. News reporters condemned the violence, and artists protested under the platform "Artists Against Genocide and Oppression."

Notably, the police did not intervene to stop the students.

Dhaka, August 3, 2024 – Dhaka’s streets are a crucible of student defiance. Over 50,000 students, undeterred by relentless rain, gathered at Shaheed Minar, their spirits intertwining in a captivating call for change.

♦The Spark of Defiance

What started as a protest against biased university admission reforms has transcended into a larger movement. Students’ grievances over tuition hikes and poor educational infrastructure have reimagined this into a tapestry of broader demands.

♦A Gathering Storm

Today marked a significant escalation. Students from across Dhaka converged at Shaheed Minar, a mosaic of umbrellas and placards. Chants of “We want justice!” and “No more corruption!” resonated through the air. Despite the downpour, the verdant spirit of over 50,000 participants orchestrated a powerful message for accountability and transparency.

♦Clashes and Confrontations

Tensions escalated as clashes erupted between students and police near the university campus. Tear gas and water cannons were deployed, and several students were injured and detained. These actions only galvanized the protesters further.

♦Voices of the Movement

“We are in the endgame now,” declared Ayesha Rahman, a student leader from Dhaka University. “This is about our future, our dignity, and our right to be heard. We will not back down.”

Another protester, Faisal Ahmed, echoed: “The rain is nothing compared to the storm within our educational system. We’ve been ignored and suppressed for too long. Today, we stand united.”

The government has called for calm and promised dialogue with student representatives. However, many students remain skeptical, citing previous unfulfilled promises and refused to negotiate.

১৬ জুলাই বেলা আড়াইটা, বেগম রোকেয়া বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সামনের সড়কে কোটা সংস্কারের দাবিতে আন্দোলনরত শিক্ষার্থীদের সঙ্গে পুলিশ ও ছাত্রলীগের সংঘর্ষে বেগম রোকেয়া বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ইংরেজি বিভাগের ১২তম ব্যাচের শিক্ষার্থী আবু সাঈদ (২৫) গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে নিহত হন। হাতে লাঠি ছিল বটে, ইট-পাটকেল ছোড়ার মত ক্ষমতাও ছিল তার, তবে বুক পেতে দিয়ে শহীদ হলেন তিনি।

এ তো কেবল শুরু!!

মাত্র ৬ বছর বয়সি রিয়া গোপ, বাসার ছাদে খেলতে গিয়ে গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে মাটিতে লুটিয়ে পড়ে এই ছোট্ট শিশুটি। হেলিকপ্টার থেকে তার দিকে গুলি এসেছে বলে ধারণা করা হয়।

ঢাকা রেসিডেনসিয়াল মডেল কলেজের একাদশ শ্রেণির একজন ছাত্র ফারহান ফাইয়াজ; আন্দোলনে পুলিশের গুলিতে নিহত হন তিনি।

সাদ মাহমুদ, ১৪ বছর বয়সী এক ছেলে, তার চাচাতো ভাইয়ের সাথে খেলা করছিলেন।২০ জুলাই সাভারে সংঘর্ষের সময় গুলিবিদ্ধ হন এবং হাসপাতালে নেওয়ার পথে মারা যান।

হৃদয় চন্দ্র তরুয়া, চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ২২ বছর বয়সী এক ছাত্র, ১৮ জুলাই প্রতিবাদের সময় গুলিবিদ্ধ হন এবং ২৩ জুলাই বিভিন্ন হাসপাতালে স্থানান্তরিত হওয়ার পর মারা যান।

"পানি লাগবে পানি?" সামাজিক যোগযোগমাধ্যমে এই ভিডিও টি দেখেন নি এমন কেউ নেই। মীর মাহফুজুর রহমান মুগ্ধ (২৫) খুলনা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের গণিতের স্নাতক। ১৮ জুলাই ঢাকায় কোটা আন্দোলনের সময়আন্দোলনকারীদের জন্য পানি ও বিস্কুট বিতরণ করছিলেন এবং তখনই গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে মারা যান। তাঁর মৃত্যু সকালের মধ্যে গভীর শোকের সৃষ্টি করেছে।

২৫ বছর বয়সী সবুজ আলী, ঢাকা কলেজের কাছাকাছি সংঘর্ষে নিহত হন।

২৪ বছর বয়সী, মো. শাহজাহানঢাকা কলেজের কাছাকাছি সংঘর্ষে মারা যান।

মো. ওয়াসিম আক্রাম,চট্টগ্রাম কলেজের ২২ বছর বয়সী এক ছাত্র, তিনি চট্টগ্রামে প্রতিবাদের সময় নিহত হন।

ফয়সাল আহমেদ শান্ত,২০ বছর বয়সী এক ছাত্র, চট্টগ্রামে সংঘর্ষে নিহত হন।

মো. ফারুক: ৩২ বছর বয়সী একজন পথচারী, তিনি চট্টগ্রামে প্রতিবাদের সময় প্রাণ হারান।

নর্দান ইউনিভার্সিটির শিক্ষার্থী আসিফ ও শাকিল,কোটা সংস্কার আন্দোলনে নিহত হন তাঁরা।

দিপ্ত দে,মাদারীপুর সরকারি কলেজের প্রাণিবিদ্যা বিভাগের দ্বিতীয় বর্ষের শিক্ষার্থী। প্রতিবাদের সময় প্রাণ হারান।

শাহীন, ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থী, ২১ জুলাই গুলিতে নিহত হন।

সাকিব,রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থী, ২১ জুলাই নিহত হন।

নাসির,চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থী, ১৮ জুলাই গুলিতে মারা যান।

রাকিব,জাহাঙ্গীরনগর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থী, ২০ জুলাই নিহত হন।

ফিরোজ, ঢাকা কলেজের শিক্ষার্থী, ২১ জুলাই গুলিতে নিহত হন।

আলিফ,খুলনা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থী, ১৮ জুলাই নিহত হন।

মো. মিজান,কুমিল্লা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থী, ২২ জুলাই গুলিতে নিহত হন।

জাহিদ, ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থী, ২১ জুলাই নিহত হন।

এক মুহূর্তের জন্য ধরে নেই যেন ছাত্র নন তারা। তারা তো মানুষ। খুঁজলে এরকম আরো শতশত মানুষের নাম বের হয়ে আসবে। সংখ্যা আর শেষ হবে না।

এ যেন মৃত্যুর মিছিল!!!

প্রাথমিকভাবে আন্দোলন শুধুমাত্র কোটা সংস্কারভিত্তিক হলেও, বর্তমানে এ আন্দোলন অনেকখানিই পরিণত হয়েছে রাজনৈতিক আন্দোলনে। কেউ ছাত্রদের ব্যবহার করছে ঢাল হিসেবে তো কেউ দাঁড়াচ্ছে তাদের বিরুদ্ধে। অপরদিকে আইডি কার্ড ঝোলানো সাধারণ ছাত্র আন্দোলনকারীদের বিএনপি এবং জামাত-শিবির বলে আন্দোলনকে রূপ দেয়া হচ্ছে রাজনৈতিক আন্দোলন হিসেবে। এভাবে ভাঙচুর এবং ধ্বংসযজ্ঞ রাজনৈতিক দলগুলোই চালালেও, দেশের ভাবমূর্তি ঠিক রাখার জন্য আঙ্গুল তোলা হচ্ছে সাধারণ ছাত্র-আন্দোলনকারীদের দিকেই এবং আন্দোলনের উদ্দেশ্যকে পথভ্রষ্ট করা হচ্ছে। আন্দোলনটি যখন শুরু হয়, তখন এটি মূলত শিক্ষার্থীদের একটি ন্যায্য দাবির ভিত্তিতেই সংগঠিত হয়েছিল। তবে, আন্দোলনের তীব্রতা ও সহিংসতার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে এটি রাজনৈতিক আন্দোলনে পরিণত হয়েছে। তাছাড়া বিশেষজ্ঞরা মনে করছেন, সরকারের ভ্রান্তিমূলক পদক্ষেপসমূহ এবং আন্দোলনকারীদের ওপর কঠোর দমন-পীড়ন এই আন্দোলনকে রাজনৈতিক মোড় দিয়েছে।

কত মানুষ নিহত, এখনও অজানা— এটি সমকাল পত্রিকার প্রধান শিরোনাম। এখানে বলা হয়েছে, কোটা সংস্কার আন্দোলনে সহিংসতায় এ পর্যন্ত কত মানুষের মৃত্যু হয়েছে, এর সঠিক সংখ্যা এখনও অজানা।
স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয় গত সোমবার পর্যন্ত ১৫০ জনের প্রাণহানির তথ্য নিশ্চিত করলেও বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলন সংবাদ সম্মেলনে জানিয়েছিলো, নিহতের সংখ্যা অন্তত ২৬৬। অন্যদিকে একটি মানবাধিকার সংগঠনের ধারণা, নিহত ২৫০ জনের কম নয়। আর ১৬ থেকে ২১ জুলাইয়ের এ সংঘাতে সমকাল ২০৮ জনের মৃত্যুর তথ্য পেয়েছে।
তবে সব হাসপাতাল এবং এলাকার তথ্য সংগ্রহ করতে পারেনি সমকাল। কোনও কোনও পরিবার দাবি করেছে, তাদের স্বজন এখনও নিখোঁজ রয়েছেন।
