We’re celebrating Far Out’s 1st birthday with a very special collab with .seen , a QT/BIPOC collective who I personally really love and who stood out to us in FOB’s first lil year of existence in the creative scene 🥹

The concept of this event has been waiting patiently in my (.thicck ) mind since the beginning of Far Out, so it only seemed fitting that we celebrate FOB’s journey so far with one of the first fundraising ideas that I had for FOB, with one of the first collectives that I really connected with, AND with the first ever s*x store + platform that I felt seen with ( you already knooo 😮‍💨)… yoo lowkey I’m so fkn KEEN for this event 🥵 to be able to create a space where we can dress the-absolute-F**K OWT, talk openly about s*x and pleasure, shop gorgeous s*x toys in a beautiful and comfy environment, all with a mean ass feed cooked by family, LOVING and SAFE company and a hot asf line-up of djs + performers to party with.. I’m so blessed bro this is a dream 🥹

Im so proud of this event & I couldn’t think of a better collective to create this space with than Open Seen and the angels that work alongside me (special shout-out to we love you!) 🫶🏽 the community, aiga and whanau that have come together for this event is incredibly moving! The amount of love and support we have seen overfills and cleanses our cup, fr!!! Blessings on end 😭😭 🤎🤎🤎🤎 im legit crying and Vale ( ) and I are sweating with nervous excitement to see, party, share space, eat and play with y’all on Sunday!

PRO NAILS 💅

Part 3 of our Sat S*xy x Pride mini series, “Pro Nails” touches on gender identity and the standards and expectations society puts on gender roles and attributes.

While we’re on the topic of gender, we thought we’d also share the meaning of the word for those who very commonly get it confused with biological s*x

‘Gender’ is a social concept that refers to the social and cultural differences a society assigns to people based on their biological s*x.

‘Biological s*x’ is typically assigned at or before birth, based on the physiological characteristics of a person including their genitalia, chromosomes, hormones etc.

Neither concepts are binary (even with biological s*x, there can be nuances and variations in the biological attributes of a persons s*x that are neither solely male or female eg. Inters*x) nor interchangeable.

The same can be said about a persons gender and their s*xuality. Gender explains a personal relationship with self, s*xuality explains an interpersonal relationship with others

Kai identifies as a Black, Q***r, Non-Binary person who is currently completing a MFA in Creative Writing at MIU, in Fairfield, IOWA; where they focus on poetry and fiction. They also run a blog called ‘The Lazy Hoe’ which can be found in our link in bio under our previous post of Kai’s. Kai enjoys speaking on all things s*x, entertainment, social issues, and anything that affects their identity.

Kai was also recently featured in Poetic Stories, where he shares insight into how he began writing- from growing up with a disdain for the art of word until he found himself smoking a blunt and writing for fun. They are now working on a speculative fiction manuscript and a poetry book.

For the next three Saturdays we’ll be showcasing poems from creative writer Kai Black for our Sat S*xy x Pride mini series 🌈💗

Today also marks the 60th anniversary of regained Samoan Independence from the NZ colonial government, as well as the beginning of Pride Month. Cheehoo! 🇼🇸 🌈​​​​​​​​

To commemorate, we bring you two Samoan terms for Samoa's third and fourth cultural gender identities- Fa'afafine and Fa'afatama. Respectively translating to, "In the manner of woman" and "in the manner of man".​​​​​​​​

Gender diversity has steadily gained recognition in Western culture, though it is still far from being a universal concept- However in the Pacific and in other indigenous cultures around the world, we have long recognised alternative gender expressions within our culture.​​​​​​​​

We've broken down some misconceptions of the Fa'afafine and Fa'afatama community in hopes to raise awareness and support for our Samoan brothers and sisters. ​​​​​​​​

The exhibition features 12 photographs that came from reimagining the work of Paul Gauguin during his time in French Polynesia. The exhibition tackles themes of stereotype, Fa'afafine rights, decolonisation and climate change. Paradise Camp will be on show in Venice until November this year, after which it will tour New Zealand and Australia in 2023 before returning home to Samoa.​​​​​​​​

We've been missing the homeland lately so for Episode 8 of   we jump across the ditch again; this time, to speak with an artist who sings her truths in neo-soul ballads that flow harmoniously through a modern, RnB/Hip hip sound, and delivers so effortlessly that it leaves you questioning how someone can be so holistically in sync with their inner creative.

Watching Bailey perform had us riddled with this same question. We were crippled by the thought that someone this talented surely couldn't be like any of us, that they must have a gift that allows their creative to 'just happen'. Bailey pulls us out of our creative fantasies to remind us that her creative wasn't just given to her- that the Bailey Wiley we see and hear today came from a persistent dedication of hard work and a strong sense of purpose and drive to create and evolve into the artist that she is today.

Bailey has and is continuing to make a name for herself. Popping out of a small town Hawera, she studied performing arts in Christchurch where she learnt techniques from musical theatre that she was able to adapt and implement in a way that suited her unique sound, moved across the globe to Berlin to work and craft her music before jumping into the Auckland scene which is where you'll find her now.

Bailey has graced the stage of Redbulls "30 Days in Chicago" supporting the musical and creative genius  in 2017, she took out NZ Music Awards Best Soul/RnB Artist in 2019 and is embodying duality of a woman raising her two girls while she continues to finesse her creative energy.

Bailey gave an honest, humbling, insightful and definitely inspiring read with this episode. We were so honoured to have her featuring in this weeks Fobcall 🥹 thank you!
