Being humble is one of the greatest teachings of the Indigenous peoples. Having respect for plant medicines is important in understanding that everything in our realm has a spirit. Treating each plant and plant root with respect and humility go a long way in the identification of healing the body of our ourselves and our loved ones. To not understand the importance of humility and respect can cause great harm when utilizing these medicines.

(a.k.a. bush morning glory) Considered a starvation food by Arapaho, Kiowa, and Cheyenne, roots were cooked only under desperate circumstances. Called “pazhuta nige tanka” (big stomach medicine) by the Lakota this large bushy plant of the Sandhills and Great Plains was powdered and sprinkled ove...

Meet John Mionczynski. The plant knowledge videos from our website at nativememoryproject.org there he describes plant medicines and their uses to heal our bodies. Meet Serendipity, his motorcycle created by used parts. Meet his ambitious builder energy to create his own home. Hear stories with an encounter of Bigfoot. Read the story to get to know a great man who is a huge part of the Native Memory Project.

John Mionczynski has spent decades tracking evidence of the creature known as Bigfoot. But to cast him off as a paranormal nut would be unfair to a scientist who has made significant contributions to contemporary understanding of the Wyoming wilderness...

Jason Baldes gives the reminder that we humans are pitiful beings. The animals and elk offered fire to the humans so they may stay warm and they created the need to care for one another. Baldes says: "And that is the reason we refer to all the animals as all our relations."

The story of how the gift of fire came to the Shoshone people is told by Shoshone Buffalo Restoration Advocate Jason Baldes. The elk gave this gift. The Shoshone relied heavily on the animals for help. When the animals couldn't use the fire from the elk they gifted it to the Shoshone who now use

Northern Arapaho Tribal member Yufna Soldier Wolf shares the Native American Experience. She gives a message to general society saying, "Native Americans aren't extinct, we are still here, we're still living cultures that you can still visit and talk to and learn their languages and learn who they are. There are tribes waiting to hear from you, we are not in the ancient past."

“The Native American Experience” touches on the many aspects of the shift to the confines of reservation life. Especially poignant is the loss, still felt today, of an Indigenous-based education to one in which the dominant society defined what was important for Native peoples to learn. Northern...

At the beginning of July, we visited American Wilderness Botanicals "Healing Barn" where we met and interviewed Sioux Chef, Sean Sherman, Co-Founder of NATIFS Dana Noelle Thompson, and Native Nutritionist Valerie Segrest. At the event, there were presentations and a panel that addressed the progressions of the food sovereignty movement across Native country. The boarding school era, commodity food implementations, the genocides, and traumas, which are still alive and well today, were also topics that were addressed at this event. I was morally pleased and impressed with the work that is being done by these wonderful educators. In my gratitude for being welcomed at this event, I put this short video together for the owner of American Wilderness Botanicals whose name is Ben Scott Clark. Thank you Ben and Maureen Molinari for sponsoring an important learning event!

Over the summer, we were able to learn more about the Indigenous Food Sovereignty movement happening across Native America. We spent our 4th of July hanging out in Sinks Canyon State Park, and we found time to forage for medicinal purposes in and near Yellowstone National Park. Summer of 2019 was the best summer so far. Prayers and wishes for many more summers in this great life!
