It is with profound sadness that we report the passing of Atlanta’s very own DJ Unk, Anthony Leonard Platt. He was best known for his 2006 platinum hit “Walk It Out,” which became a defining anthem in hip-hop and dance culture.

DJ Unk began his career in the late 1990s, joining the Southern Style DJs alongside DJ Montay and DJ Jelly. His debut album, Beat’n Down Yo Block!, not only featured “Walk It Out” but also the gold-certified track “2 Step,” both of which showcased his unique blend of Southern hip-hop and infectious dance rhythms.

His wife, Sherkita Long-Platt, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, stating, “Please respect me and my family. I just lost my husband and my kids just lost their father. Our life will never be the same. I LOVE YOU ANTHONY FOREVER.”

DJ Unk’s contributions to music and culture have left an indelible mark, inspiring countless fans and artists alike. His legacy will continue to influence the hip-hop community and beyond. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his artistry.

Viernes 24 de Enero tenemos la primera fecha de DE LA FLOW en Tijuana. Aparte de shows locales, tendremos una competencia de freestyle formato Seven-To-Punch en la que me enfrentaré a los mejores freestylers de Tijuana, y daremos premio al que más duro le meta.

Domingo 26 de Enero, empieza la primera fecha de SAN DIEGO FREESTYLE CYPHER. Cada ÚLTIMO DOMINGO DEL MES, tengo pensado citar a los aficionados al freestyle de la zona para venirse a rapear un rato y platicar. Alguien se acuerda del Cypher in the Park? Quiero recuperar ese ambiente.

This year I’m going to organize events with once again. Also, this weekend is my birthday, so we’re going to celebrate properly.

On Friday, January 24th we have the first date of DE LA FLOW in Tijuana. Aside from local shows, we’ll have a Seven-To-Punch freestyle competition in which I’ll face the best freestylers in Tijuana, and we’ll give a prize to the one who hits the hardest.

Sunday, January 26th, the first date of SAN DIEGO FREESTYLE CYPHER begins. Every LAST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH, I plan to invite freestyle fans in the area to come rap for a while and chat. Does anyone remember Cypher in the Park? I want to get that atmosphere back.

Remember to pray to the Virgin and drink water.

Trenton New Jersey’s DJ Juice has passed away at the age of 54. Juice was known for his blends in addition to his pioneering work with video mixtapes. Juice, born Brian Short is a three time SEA Blends Award winner, as well as a recipient of Justo’s Mixtape Award. Several Hip-Hop practitioners in and outside of New Jersey have paid their respects to Juice on social media. Condolences to Juice’s family and loved ones❤️🕊️
