To Him who is able to do far more than we can ever think or imagine. If you had told me at the beginning of this season that I was going to have the best season of my life but it was going to be the warmest, most dry season I've ever encountered, I would have called you a liar. The conditions this year has been horrendous. But what ive learned from going up and down the flyway is that as some places die, others grow. A lot of people have had the worst season of their lives in the south. I've talked to a lot who have had their best (our northern friends). Weather/habitat conditions is what primarily positions ducks. Not pressure, calendar, or anything else. In my experience, if you find where the weather and habitat conditions meet...you will often find the X. Thankful for the Lord pouring em out on us and the amazing people we've got to meet along the way. Hoping to continue the pace. January is when the fire is needed, the grit. Most people are quiting, hanging up the waders. But for some, the best is yet to come. Season hasnt even started yet 🔥

REMINISCING- Spent yesterday morning with Gus, standing on the bank of an area we once frequented...watching the sunrise talking about old times. Beautiful cold, sunny morning. Great conditions but the skies were duckless. There was a time when we absolutely "owned" this spot. One of those natural locations that the ducks wanted on a mudflat against the banks. You could be 50 yards one way or the other and you wouldnt hardly fire a shot. We found a perfect trail to it by land that split a massive thicket so thick a rabbit couldn't get through. You can also get there by boat but you didnt stand a chance of beating us that way. Boats had to come around a much longer, treacherous route and we would have been in the spot for 15 minutes by the time they got there, running wide open the whole time. After weeks of people watching us kill ducks, walkers strategically tried to find a way through the thickets that protected the entrance to the water but if you didnt hit it just right, you'd never make it through. We were unbeatable and we shot ducks day in and day out. I cant lie, it was a good feeling. Everybody knew what we were doing, and there was nothing they could do about it. We had the fire. What was better, is that this public is known as the "you cant kill them over there, too many people. Ducks wont work right!" We shot every duck feet down in the decoys. The picture of us in the spread in the sunrise is my favorite. We had just shot into a group and got 5 out of it, picking up the carnage. If you look closely, you can see two more mallards in the left of the shot trying to bomb in while we're out there. The last pic is the worst picture but was a top 5 hunt of my lifetime. Never before or since have i seen that many ducks in this wildlife area and every single one of them wanted exactly where we were. Could have shoot 100 if we had wanted to. Lit group after group of everything. Pintails, mallards, widgeons, gadwalls. Those we're good times..... A few shots rang out as we stood watching. A few mallards circled far in the distance. A shell of its former glory. Maybe it will return to prominence one day. Lights up in Twin City.

We made lemonade from the lemons in last night's video. After a tough morning hunt that didnt produce and trailer trouble after that, we managed to get on an awesome afternoon marsh hunt. We all got to harvest our first crane which was epic. 🇨🇦

Insane trip to the southern coast of Louisiana! Some of the best fishing I've ever been apart of. Between the hordes of speckled trout, backwater marsh redfish, and a few sharks that would make you think twice about jumping in the local waters...we couldnt have asked for better fishing. The Lord blessed us with (almost unheard of) cooler than normal temps for this time of year and calm seas...almost zero rain. And most importantly, some of the best people I've ever had the pleasure to meet. As when doing anything fun, it's always made better when doing it with good people. Huge thanks to the Begno's for putting us up and cooking the best food known to mankind for us (cajun cooking). And huge thanks to for inviting me to tag along with him. If you've never experienced this part of the country, i highly recommend it. There's nothing quite like it anywhere else in the US.

Couldnt have asked for a better end to the season considering the conditions. Freeze and drought is a good recipe to not hold ducks but we were blessed to have some of the best hunts of the year.

Greenhead bliss. Only a few more days left sadly. Some flames flicker or extinguish towards the end. Ive always been a 4th quarter guy myself. The closer to the end it gets, the stronger the desire to go gets, knowing that the opportunity to put another one in the decoys is almost over. Finishing on a high note always make the end a little sweeter though for sure.

Last night's video is a BANGER!! We setup on a tiny little mudhole surrounded by trees in the middle of a bean field and the ducks just did it nasty, right in the pocket all day long. The last hour was the best, put 2 huge groups down. Your not going to want to miss this one. Awesome day at

Yesterday's video was one of my favorite hunts last season. Started out really tough, mainly because we were not quite where we needed to be and couldnt get where we needed to be. We sat off of a huge congregation of birds (thousands upon thousands) and throughout the day they would get up and fly around and we would pull some into our spread. The midday results were like a completely different day than what the morning was. I love those type of hunts. We had some huge waves dump in. A lot of them were still right on the edge of where i like to shoot which is a common problem when hunting big water. Just makes a lot more sense for them to land out far and then swim up. Lot safer lol. But an epic hunt with great friends and a day we wont soon forget.

Nothing quite like mallards on public. One of my favorite aspects is all the different places you get to hunt. The public land journey is always a new place, new people, new ducks. If theres one thing i would tell my younger duck hunting self, it would be stay mobile and always be adding new ground to your list.

Ive got on ducks in flooded corn a few different times. Oddly, the ducks were never coming to eat corn. Every time they were targeting moist soil plants growing under the corn. This hunt was a great example of that. In fact, Gadwalls rarely eat grain from all accounts and studies ive looked at. Either way, hiding in the standing corn and taking fluttering gadwalls at 15 yards made for a good time.

Spinners- so often just a slight change in position has a huge effect on the ducks. Interesting how effective they can be in some places and basically worthless in others. Kinda wouldnt mind seeing a nationwide ban on them if im being honest. Would be easy way to reduce a little pressure while not putting much restriction on hunters. Would make hunters have to learn better calling skills and decoy fundamentals. On the other hand, spinners make for better hunts for the casual "couple times a year" hunter. Also a game changer for dry field hunters. Maybe a good compromise would be just having a short window of the season when you can use them. A couple of weeks maybe. Would also make public land better i think. Ive seen a lot of groups that will go and throw out a couple spinners, will do just enough to get the ducks on the edge of gun range. Not hating on that way of doing things, to each their own. Just saying it would reduce some shooting and would make hunters have to up their game if they wanted to be successful.

TBT to a place we used to call the gadwall ditch. Was just a tiny little creek that ran through some ag fields, maybe 15 yards wide. A man wasnt going to hardly see any mallards but it was the most guaranteed mixed duck spot ive ever seen and they were going to be so close that you had to hold on to your hat when they came in because the wind off their wings might knock it off. Good times.

Cypress swamps are one of my favorite places to hunt. Puts you in a whole other world when your deep in the middle of them. Beautiful, especially with groups of mallards flying overhead. Hunted them heavy most of my life but not so much over the past few years. Its a type of duck hunting everybody should experience at least once.
