The metrics you focus on should be linked to the goals of your social media strategy.

- By comparing your profile visits to the number of new followers, you can figure out if you need to expand your reach or make improvements to your page to get more followers.
- Engagement is great but you should also know who is engaging with your content. Is it most of your followers, people that don't follow you or the same people over and over?
- Lastly, saves are so underrated, they don't improve your reach directly but they do show you when your content is extremely relevant and important to the people that see it. Saves let you know what is most valuable to your audience.

1) Make a note of the most frequently asked questions and have the answers on standby or give them to your social media manager for quick access.
2) Check your comments and DMs at least once a day, everyday, add it to one of your daily routines or set a reminder till you get the hang of it.
3) Check your mentions and brand/ business hashtags daily if you have them.

These tasks can always be delegated to a social media manager, especially if they take up too much of your time but the three tips above can help you even if you handle it yourself.

Engaging with your audience is essential. Remember, your followers are real people. Check out their posts, respond to their comments and don't leave them on delivered in your direct messages. Engage as often as you can or outsource it and invest is strong customer relations.

70% of buying experiences are based on how the customer feels they are being treated. This includes having their questions answered in a timely fashion, and can determine whether or not a client buys your service, becomes a repeat customer, give you reviews or referrals, etc.

Vanity metrics such as likes and followers are nice to look at but finding the right people is about quality not quantity.

It's important to set goals for your accounts so you don't get caught up in the metrics. Do you want a professional online presence? Do you want new clients to consistently find your business? Do you want feedback to improve your business or the services you offer? All these things are more beneficial to your business than a number on a screen.

Instagram has recently added the option to hide the like count on your posts as many people realized the potentially harmful effects of fixating on such metrics.

Remember to define what success is for you so you can keep your eyes on the prize and stay away from unnecessary comparison and the numbers game.

Feedback. Feedback. Feedback. You can use analytics to see how your audience responds to your content. Are they liking, sharing or saving your posts? You can use these insights to see what your audience is most interested in. For more detailed feedback, ask them a question. You can use polls, sliders, question stickers or just ask them to comment under one of your posts. Find out if they like what you’re posting, what they want to see or how you can improve.

Remember you have to be a good listener. You should be prepared to adjust your strategy based on the feedback from your audience. Don’t ignore what your audience has to say. You may think you know what they want but their input is the most valuable foresight you can get.

How do you decide where and when to distribute your content?

Let your audience decide the where.
Find the platforms where your target audience spends their time and show up for them. You can start by researching the platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit, Pinterest, Quora, etc.). What are their most common demographics? What type of content do they support? Are your competitors using these platforms? Try to commit to 1 or 2 platforms at the beginning but don’t be afraid to branch out or change things up.

When to post comes down to two main factors.
1) How often can you produce high quality content? Be honest with yourself about the amount of content you can produce regularly. Outsourcing content creation can allow you to show up as much as you would like but be sure to focus on the quality rather than quantity, your audience will know the difference.
2) When is your audience online? This question is extremely important on platforms such as Instagram. Many infographics recommend the best times to post on each platform, but these times may not be the best for your audience. If you have an existing following, then check the audience reports to see when your followers are online and post when they are most active. If you are building your following, ask yourself when your ideal follower would be online. Is it right after their 9 to 5 or late at night after they put their kids to bed?
