Sailing Frida af Wisby

Yesterday we arrived in our winterberth in Marina di Ragusa but appart from checking in we where to tired to do anything. We got both calm but also eventful nightssil from Taormine to Ragusa calm because it was light wind and only smal waves and eventful because on this very last sail for the season just we had a dinner watching the sun set over Sicily we heard our fishing rod go out quite slowly but definitly something was on. First Anders thought it was just some plastic but when it came closer to the boat we saw it was a fish it was a long fined tuna or Bonito that weight 9 kg it took 2 hours for me to get it into the freezer. Now we have many nice fish dinners to look forward to while we go in with our winterproject. Anders has already fixed the first.. changed our Italian guestflag coming up later is electrical upgrade because our old AGM battery housebank is finished they charge up and die again for the slightest load.

A little late but now we just publiched our next episode. In this episode first we sail to the Sailing and Anericas cup mecca Barcelona where we also fix our waterpump again.. then we continue north and sail straight into the mighty Lion of the Mediterranian Sea - Gulfe de Leon and thereby we close the Spanish chapter of our European sailing adventure.

In the coming episodes we look forward to sail the French Mediterranian coast including the glamourous french riviera

Today we sailed 62 NM from Tropea through the Messina straight down to an Anchorage outside Taormine. We got the full Messina experience package with current against us up to 3-4 knots current swirvels, wind burst and wind accelerations to allmost twice the forecast up to 32 knots, another sailor who thought it was a good idea to cross right infront of us(both motoring) in the narrow part and ofcause a ferry that didn’t moved an inch to lets us pass so Anders had to bear away but it was to close for my comfort. But dispite all that we really had a nice day on the water and we still think we had a beautiful and calm passage through the narrow straight most of the strong wind actually came later but we had a broadcreach with following seas so it was quite comfortable in the boat.

Yesterday we rented a car and drove over to the other side of the peninsula to Roccella to visit our friends in Vision(our buddyboat over the Bay of Biscay) as a bonus we also met Jessica från SV Taipan. We had a fantastic drive over the mountains a good lunch meeting great people. So this is one of thise amasing days we will remember for a long time.

Today we had a vi stay over day in Tropea where we have relaxed on the boat and taking a walk up ( and we realle mean up approximatly 30-40 meters up…) to the old town Tropea a really cosy place with lots of restaurant. But due to a big and deliscious banana split topped up with a beer with a view we think we have maintained our calory balance😉

Nice stop over and we are glad we stayed so we had time to check out the town😀

Today the seastate is completely flat we tried to sail a while but it was just to little wind so we are motorsailing. Gitte took benefit of the calm conditions and made some mini pancakes (Krabbelurer in swedish) so boatlife is great right now.

This is a short real time update. We will try to catch up but we make our videos because it’s fun and we like to share our adventure and it’s our hope that you get inspiration for big or small adventures or just get some entertainment We have just had a couple of days in Gli Amici Agropoli marina where Maxwell took good care of both us and Frida when we rented a car and drove to Pompei an amazing archelogical site which is lika a time capsel of how people lived and how a city nearly 2000 years ago was organised and it’s amasing how much that is actually simular to our modern cities there where shops, butchers, fastfood dinning bars markets places baths which also was places to debate and living quarters and everything instantly stopped when the city was burried under a thick layer of ash mud and lava. After that wd drove a bit along the famous Amalfi coast but unfortunatly it began to rain and thunder so we didn’t really got to see the beauty its famous for. Now we are at anchor outside the beach in Agropoli and tomorrow will we continue sailing south towards our next winter destination in Marina di Ragusa😀

We are ok but for the last 2 hour have we been fighting heavy rainfal so that we could almost not see anything, hail, lightnings as closa as 450 m and up to 45.9 knots of wind. Suddenly a catamaran passed us out of control.

This was really scary but now its so calm that it feels unreal…

Update we just talked with a local who has his boat at anchor here and a friend of his measured 55 knots in the marina next to the Anchorage. But according to him the rest of the night should be calm but Anders and I take turns to stay awake just to be sure.

Update half past 12 the party stil goes on and the usual evening fireworks a little late but who cares the party must go on😉

Yes we are underway again this time from our summer marina Blue Dolphins in Tibern very close to Rome airport to an Anchorage outside Anzio and tomorrow we plan to go out to the island Ponza. It feels fantastic to be out on the water again

Hi all
As you many of You know has it been a difficult summer for us and we really want to say thanks for the support and kind word we have got our followers and subscribers. But now have we finally managed to get a new episode ready and we made it a extra long video packed with our preparations to start a new sailing season after our summer working period in Sweden. We begin our plan to head north to Sail the Spanish east coast but notice problems already before we left the marina in Valencia. But we sail to our next stop where we discover our own personal reef as we lift the boat. It was a hard, wet and dirty job to clean it. As this wasn’t enough we actually had to outrun lightnings to our next stop.

Hope you enjoy the video that I dedicate to my father who passed away in the beginning of the summer and gave me the love of sailing.
