We're almost in the end of "What did you miss in 2020?" and while we're waiting for last tops, part of us decided to post our own "best of"s!

What did you miss in 2020? Punk suggestions for punx. Iggy. Hamburg, Germany

Hey, i’m Iggy, immigrant from eastern “europe” living in Hamburg. I do many things, but i guess the main focus is playing in small local bands, guitar in Miley Silence, guitar and vocals in Kleymo and Unique, hosting It's All About Punk Show on the local radio Freies Sender Kombinat. Few months ago i started small record label, called Brainwasher Records, first stuff will be out very soon, which i’m pretty exited about. I almost forgot, may be because it feels like different life right now, but we were organising diy punk shows with Nice Slice DIY Booking (will definitely continue doing this). oh yeah, me and my friends started this webzine last year with the same action, top 10 of 2019 and it was a lot of fun, so this year we decided to do this again, hope you enjoyed it. Here’re my top 5 releases of 2020 with no particular order:

VIA POP MUSOR is a formation from Belgorod, Russia! Remains of the Belgorod Underground! Our trick is to come out with a new release every five years, was invented in 2020, we just released a new one, art made by our friend from St. Petersburg, Sasha Canadian, it’s connected with everything what was happening with us in 2020, we’re wildly happy with it. Originally, we’re from Belgorod, but living all around Russia right now. This year, my another band Fake Fun was on Indonesian tour together with Chunder during the beginning of the fu***ng pandemic, we returned back to Russia anyway, but with a great difficulty. By the way, new Fake Fun release will be available soon on vinyl, also in Europe, stay tuned to get one!

Under the Knife is a black & brown owned and ran DIY music label releasing music genres under the umbrella of punk, hardcore, industrial, polka? whatever…just all types of freak s**t. Based in New York city and Jacksonville, FL. Outside of music we release zines as well as films on VHS.

As a writer trying to describe each band and do them justice and not another half assed review at points can feel a little more than challenging but what I can whole heartily say without any doubt is that every band on this list take on the challenge of being a part of a genre that is multi decades old and still finding ways to keep this kind of music exciting, interesting, fun, and new while continuing to raise the bar. I hope you all enjoy the bands on this list as much as I do.

Here, Fede(rico), a costarican living in Denmark, part of the K-Town Hardcore Fest organiser group and long time supporter of the latinamerican hardcore and punk scene. Jasmine. A lover of plants, animals and horror movies based in Oakland. I play bass in Torso and Urban Sprawl (both of which have 7”s coming out in January!), sing in Screaming Fist and play guitar in Composite and Siamese Twins. 2020 really has me missing shows, tours and friends. To a certain extent, 2020 has contributed to all spheres of life of the bio-mechanism called humanity. The world’s punk scene didn’t become an exception and the ever-boiling cauldron of tours, concerts and releases this year has noticeably cooled down. Well… it will be easier to choose the 5 best releases of the year, in my opinion, from those bands who still dared to publish them in this difficult time.

What did you miss in 2020? Punk suggestions for punx. We’re doing this again!

We’re punk collective based in Hamburg and Berlin. Last year we organized this action, where we asked “some” people from around the globe, what did they listen during the year and asked them to send us their TOP 10 releases of 2019. This year we gonna do this again, but this time on a new platform and it’s gonna be TOP 5 releases with small reviews on them.
