Refusing to teach the actual history of this country because it might make some people uncomfortable doesn't change what happened or erase it.

If we don't learn about our history, we are doomed to repeat it.

This fire festival marks the beginning of spring in the Celtic calendar/Wheel of the Year 🔥

While we'll still be feeling those cold temperatures for the next month or so, today is a beautiful reminder that we are continuing on the path toward the light that began on Yule!

Today is a day to honor Brigid, Goddess of fire, healing, and poetry. She is also a symbol of fertility and the promise of a bountiful spring to fully bloom at Ostara 💐

Some of her symbols include the oak tree, the serpent, and the eternal flame.

I've been thinking about how I want to approach the month of February as an artist, a business owner and a human being in the world. It's so hard to parse through all the information flying at us right now, much of it terrifying and strange to the point of being ludicrous. But, here we are, doing our best to put one foot before the other and keep going. I have often thought it is beautiful that both Black History Month and Valentines Day fall in the month of February. While I have struggled with feeling as though the cupid-laden holiday capitalism would sell us is a distraction from what should be a time to honor the legacies of Black Americans throughout history, I wondered how I might be able to shift that lens. If I choose to engage with Valentines Day as an invitation to Love, and I sit with that idea as informed by the work of bell hooks, might that not directly engage with Black History in a way that could be useful?

So, I close out January with this quote from bell hooks, and open February with this invocation: There is no love without justice - bell hooks
