The Republican President Hakainde Hichilema and former President Edgar Lungu have in separate press statements expressed deep sadness on the loss of the Namibian President Dr. Hage Geingob and sent their condolences to the people of Namibia.
In a brief statement issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Zambia, President Hakainde Hichilema, President Hichilema has stated that the late President of Namibia Dr. Hage Geingob was a true friend, a liberation icon, a distinguished diplomat, a senior African Statesman, and an elder brother; he mentioned in his brief statement that "our thoughts and prayers are with his widow, Madame Monica Geingos and family, the Namibian people, and the entire African Continent."
On his part, the former Zambian President Edgar Lungu has stated in a press statement that the news about the demise of President Dr. Hage Geingob earlier this morning left his heart wrenched; he stated that he had been privileged to share a brotherly relationship with the late President Geingob at the time both of them were given the grace to become Heads of States in their respective countries in the year 2015. President Lungu expressed deep sadness on the loss of President Hage Geingob, and stated that the loss was not only a big blow to Namibia but also to the SADC region in general. Mr Lungu stated that the region and Africa as a whole is sadly losing our icons, the staunch, revolutionary and legendary Pan Africanists, at a time we need them most to tap into their wisdom, knowledge and experience. Mr Lungu further mentioned that the late President Dr Hage Geingob will always be remembered as a liberation struggle icon of Namibia who dedicated his life to help his country to gain independence in 1990. Mr Edgar Lungu stated in his press statement that President Geigbob was one of the last, if not the very last, of Africa's freedom fighters remaining, who have been able to meaningfully infuse into the new generation of African leaders, the true spirit of Pan-Africanism from the liberation struggle against colonialism, against neo-colonialism, right up to the ongoing anti imperialism struggle, which many African nations don't fully comprehend. Mr Lungu has advised that as the former President Geingob is being morned, people should find ways to preserve and inculcate the patriotic values which were espoused by President Hage Geingob and other great sons of Africa such as Dr Kenneth Kaunda, Nelson Mandela, Robert Mugabe, Oliver Tambo and Julius Nyerere, among others. President Lungu has advised that Africa needs to look inward, to virtues of Pan Africanism; "President Geingob has left for all well-meaning current and future African leaders to emulate and to, in turn, leave for posterity" stated President Lungu.
