Uni can so often be a lonely time. There are lots of new people and it can be hard leaving behind friends and family with who you have deep relationships with.
As a student, is there anyone you could ask to read the bible with you to help deepen a friendship?
Or maybe there is someone you miss from home that you could read the bible with over Facetime
How about in your church? Is there anyone that has joined that has just started uni, or is there someone that has just left? Could you text them to see if they would like to read the bible with you?
If you've never read the bible with someone before, don't worry we, have a FREE guide that can help.
Comment FREE and we will send you the link to get it.

Have you listened yet to our most recent episode with Glenna Marshall on memorising scripture?
It's so helpful. We as a family have started learning Psalm 121 together, we have put actions to it to help little ones too. As Glenna suggested we are just starting slow and doing little chunks at a time.
Have you tried memorising scripture? How do you do it? Maybe, like us it's new to you, could you too give it a go this week memorising just a small amount of the book you are in for bible study, or even a verse you read today?

As we flick through the back end of the Old Testament, looking for the little book of Micah, it might seem that voices like his should remain confined to the dusty corridors of history. The genre, poetic and prophetic, is unfamiliar; the historical backdrop is full of superpowers, like Assyria and Babylon, who no longer exist; and there’s mention of temples, offerings and high places.
But, underneath the unfamiliar layers, this Bible book is packed full of themes that speak to the heart of 21st century society, and to you and I as we sit and read it. Micah brings our holy, just and merciful God into focus as these chapters reverberate with the question of who is a God like this?
As the question is raised, and answered, Micah gives his readers a courtroom scenario in which God himself bears witness against his people. Justice is coming, from his hand, and it is righteous and deserved in the face of rife idolatry and corruption.
The weighty judgement, felt deeply through powerful imagery, leaves God’s people facing destruction. But there is a faithful remnant, to whom Micah speaks and who is listening. As we listen in with them, we see mercy from the same hand that will deliver grief. We see it in vibrant, hopeful colour through pictures of mountains, shepherds and kings. And we sigh with relief that this God will gather his people and bring them through painful judgement into mercy-given, sin-pardoned life.
Having found Micah, amidst those ancient minor prophets, we catch a glimpse of the current headlines. They’re full of corrupt leaders; vulnerable, abused people; and the marginalised being manipulated. We long for righteous justice, but also concrete, mercy-filled hope. We need Micah’s words now because we need to know what our God is like, and what he is doing with our sin-riddled, Christ-needing world.

A prayer for when I just don’t want to read my bible:
‘Turn my heart towards your statues, and not towards selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.’ (Ps 119v36-37)
Father,
I confess that I just don’t have a desire to read your Word at the moment. I’m sorry that I desire other things more. I’m sorry for where I’m not desiring to hear from you, and to listen to what you are saying through your life-giving word. Lord please forgive me. O Father, please stir my affection for you again. Turn my heart towards you, and away from selfish gain. O Father help me to see clearly the privilege it is to open up your Word and hear from you today. Lord delight my heart afresh in the riches I have in Christ. May your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts.
Amen.

Are you hungry? I’m hungry.
I’m not talking about physical nourishment here, but what my heart clamours after.
Lots of you are listening to our season in Ecclesiastes at the moment and the goading words of the preacher in chapters 5-6 make my heart flinch as he talks of the ‘roving appetite’, the one who ‘never has enough’, the one who is ‘never satisfied’. His words are tethered to the worship of wealth in these chapters, but why box my appetite there?
My fingers flit between apps. My mind consumes yet more, all in an effort to quench the roving appetite of my heart. And whilst I profess with my lips that I worship Yahweh, the creator of heaven and earth, my thoughts, words and deeds betray a far more scattered affair. Lurking within me is an appetite all too easily pleased by the shimmering created, rather than fixed on the weight of our glorious Creator.
Oh Lord, you are in heaven, and I am on earth. What will it take for my heart to be stilled before you, unfettered in worship to you?
The world clamours for my attention, beckoning me to satisfy my appetite with the cheap, dulled pleasures offered up to me. And yet the more it clamours, the more satisfaction is eluded, my hunger staunchly remaining.
I am so slow to come. So slow to turn. So hesitant to see that an appetite created for the Lord cannot be satisfied by hankering after the vapour of this world.
And yet as I come, as I remember my place before Him, I already sense my appetite growing, ‘not for the food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give [me].’ In his grace, this word begins to nurture and feed my appetite with that enduring food. O Lord keep growing my shrivelled appetite, that I may increasingly hunger after you.
For in his extraordinary providence, as I bow before Him in worship, and draw near in humble reverence, fearing him above all else, he tells me that deep satisfaction and gladness of heart will follow.

4 ways leaving bibles open around the house has helped with reading the bible (especially with small ones at home).
1. It helps me to prioritise it rather than spending time on my phone
2. I'm able to spend longer reading it than I expect or I'm able to spend time dwelling on the same verse
3. It models to my kids what it looks like to prioritise reading God's word
4. They often then grab their bibles when I'm reading mine
What things do you do to help you read God's word?

Felicity managed to have a sweet, edifying chat with @gospelshapedwomanhood about her recent book which plumbs the depths of Ephesians in order to help her reader ground their identity and lives in Christ. It’s biblical, honest and practical. Highly recommend - one to get for yourself but also for others. And this was just a moment in a longer fun and encouraging conversation, she’s a delight! #gospelshapedwomanhood #womenoftheword #biblestudychat #womenwriting #ephesians #titus2
