One of the world most ambitious construction project, the EuroAfrica Interconnector is about to take off in Egypt.
Egypt, Cyprus and Greece have come together to construct an undersea electricity supply cable that will stretch a distance of 1,396-kilometer linking Africa with Europe. The project is set to be the longest interconnector cable in the world, which will have the same distance between Berlin in Germany to Torquay in England. When completed, $ 2.7 billion the new submerged power highway line will establish a safe and dependable option for transferring electric energy to and from Europe, unite the two continents and kick start a whole new era of economic development.

The EuroAfrica Interconnector comprises the electricity interconnection between the grids of Egypt, Cyprus and Greece through a subsea DC cable and with HVDC onshore converter stations at each connection point, with a total capacity of 2000MW, enough to provide electricity to 3 million households, or the cities of Berlin and Madrid combined. The project is an energy highway bridging Africa and Europe, with a total length of 1396 km, which will create a reliable alternative route for the transfer of electric energy to and from Europe.

It will cover 123 acres, and contain 23 buildings.

It will have a space academy, research centre, museum, satellite assembly centre and the Headquarters of the African Space Agency.

It will be opened this year.
