OVER 12 SNAKES INVADE NURSERY SCHOOL.

Panic and fear engulfed pupils and teachers of Mihembero nursery and primary school in Bwijanga Sub County, Masindi district following an invasion of snakes.

The snakes reportedly invaded pupils in a nursery class after they arrived for classes on Monday morning, causing panic among the pupils who ran for their lives scattering around the school compound.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity to one of the local media, a teacher at the school reveals that they were able to kill about 12 snakes. By press time, we had not yet established whether there were victims of the snake bite at the school.

The EACOP – EU Parliament issue needs attention, I have a feeling that the EU is not coming from nowhere to raise its environmental and social issues. Ask your self are the people in Buliisa, Nwoya, Hoima, Kikuube and the EACOP districts happy with the project? Are the benefits being felt? As long as people don’t have trust in the processes, this EACOP will always find difficulty

Our government will insist that the EU is only giving recommendations, whereby government can choose to take then or ignore. But at the end of the day we are not going to consume all the oil here. Somehow somewhere our crude oil will find itself with an EU buyer, we therefore need EU. EACOP needs EU. So we need EACOP as much as we need development. Let our campaigners do more work to create more awareness locally and internationally especially to those who are saying no to EACOP.

On environment, can NEMA prove to that the EACOP environmental concerns are being addressed? What has the Petroleum Authority of Uganda been doing?
Socially, why would families be compensated with less money that cannot restore their livelihood yet the government is displacing them permanently. Do we know how the social resettlement contractors are sourced and who owns those companies that are resettling people? Have we made an audit on these resettlements? Are the PAPs being given space to air out their grievances? I don’t know why we always wait for foreigners to come at tell us that we should respect human rights and protect our own environment.

All along we have been telling this government to strengthen local businesses and also support local banks but the government has been singing foreign investors. By the way some international players many times don’t trust our capabilities to handle big investments.
This EACOP issue should be an eye opener to Uganda.
