Last year I was away from my family and friends in Perth due to Covid restrictions and uni, and although I am so grateful for all the experiences I had and the people I’ve met, the distance from my other loved ones left me feeling alone at times. Summer has now well and truly left us (did it ever even arrive tho?), so we'd like to send it off with your stories.

What have you been up to? Scaled an abandoned building? Started a creative project? Had a special moment with your friends?? Tell us in 12 photos or less.

It doesn't have to be positive! Life is not always easy, especially these days, so share with us anything you like.

Helllo beautiful friends and foes. We are excited to go ahead with the sturdy covid safety measures in place that we need to have a safe, wholesome, and art filled evening 💕 We’d like to support our artists and their efforts to create their beautiful stalls particularly after the arts has taken a big hit this year. With this in mind, the opening up of retrstrictions, the increase in covid numbers alongside the increase in vaccinations we have these specific covid 19 safety measures in place:

- Check in upon entry and show us your vaccination proof. If you are not vaccinated we understand that there is a higher risk of infection and transmission due to this. We’d strongly prefer vaccinated attendees at this time as Covid-19 is present in the community but if there are medical reasons or other reasons that you are unvaccinated and you’d still like to come please let us know prior so we can take the extra precautions to keep all of us safe.

- Masks are mandatory to wear inside and when ordering food and drink outside.
- Of course stay at home if you’ve had symptoms until youve been clear via a covid test.
- Stay at home if you’re a recent close contact
- Keep to social distancing in the outside courtyard area where masks will not be mandatory away from ordering food.
- We also have internal ventilation system to ensure air circulation continues.

This will be the Inner-Westfield we’ve always wanted and will be treating it like a shopping mall in terms of going forth with this event!

Gelmag introduces ISSUE 3 DREAMS.
This is our FIRST PRINT EDITION and will be available for pre order soon. ✨💫

This project was very close to our hearts, as we took on new challenges in platforming an enormous community of over 30 creatives. This project has been a long time coming, using the better part of the year to meaningfully collaborate and connect to create this magazine. We have loved the process, and it has been so rewarding to have this opportunity to build our little community into something more. This print issue will come in at 100 pages, embracing photography, poetry, divination, illustration, and plenty other juicy mediums to drink on.

Over the next few weeks we will be introducing all of our creatives, highlighting their special contribution to this project. So keep your eyes peeled, and be ready to shower them with so much lavvvvvvvv ❤️❤️❤️

"These two episodes centre on two archetypal women figures existing within different geographies and histories...Together, they are a criticism of the fear engendered by patriarchal violence in both historical and contemporary time periods. Both stories speak to the idea of a “penetrative colonialism”, where the male phallus becomes a metaphor for the violation of colonised territories, as well as women’s bodies. Under the social construction of gendered violence, women’s bodies can be considered as territories of resistance..."

These are just some of the questions we will be exploring in Gelmag's next and third issue DREAMS ~~~~

This issue will be the first PRINT edition for Gelmag. We will be investigating the subconscious and liminal reality of dreams, alongside 25 amazing artists and volunteers from Eora and beyond.

We will be releasing this issue as an EXHIBITION event in August, so watch this space for all the info...

In the meantime, here are some piccies from the artist meeting we had a few weeks backs.

As usual we are so overwhelmed with the incredible response and with all the inspiring people who chose to be a part of our growing community. We've got a few special mediums this time round and we can't wait to see it all come together.

At Gelmag we love summer and we love community! For the last month of the season we will open our doors to showcase aspiring talent from Eora/Sydney and beyond.

As a part of the summer series, Gelmag will be taking submissons for // Summer Snaps // so make sure to get your flicks in quick!

The Gelmag site had a glow up!

Over the summer, the Gelmag team has worked on creating a new functional and accessible platform, and now we are so proud!

With a refreshed look and design, we're ready to hit the ground running for all our future projects.

We are also now opening the floor for submissions, so if you have a project, article, invention, or any other creative idea you would like platformed please get in touch.

Last of our Fear issue we have // ✖ Lost Territory ✖// by Deb and Tanita.

This is a collaborative written piece exploring two colonised female identities.

From the pains of Kurdistan to the brutalisation of Mexico city, this piece moves with its poetic rhythm.

The artwork by is similarly oustanding. It includes traditional Kurdish swords and hand drawn palaces of another time.

Meet the Fear artist instalment two // our first artist for the week is Jackalyn // Jackalyn’s story behind the art is one that even baffled the doctors. With an incredibly rare form of ocular cancer, her vision became more and more distorted over time before eventually leaving her right eye. These incredible paintings are the product of her loss of visual control and her acceptance inevitability of it all.

For last of tonight's work we have //🔴Dblmntry🔴// by Sam

Gender a construct which affects all of us. Since before we are born we are marked with expectations of the way we're meant to be.

But gender is just that, a construct. Our perception of what it means, changes.

This piece explores the fears of being a marginalised non-conforming identity. It explores the fear truly being yourself in a society that assumes and judges.

We loved the colour drench in this piece, the red feels like its melting down our throat.
