Although the CPC finally voted against the request, our city council members, including Freddie King III, are back at it and must now decide whether to uphold the decision to rezone this by-right multi-family zone to a single-family zone—a move that has been described as a racist effort.

Our leaders shouldn't be struggling to make this decision if they truly consider the rights of all residents. Yet, two years later, we are still battling this issue when we shouldn't be. According to housing reports for New Orleans, there is a need for over 10,000 homes. Meanwhile, there are more than 47 single-family home lots available in the Arbor Estates, located within the English Turn area, as well as numerous lots and homes for sale in English Turn itself.

There is no evidence to support the claim that this rezoning is necessary. It is clear that this effort aims to redline the area, effectively excluding individuals of a certain lower class.

Our city of New Orleans' leadership has been failing us collectively by prioritizing an elite group over the needs of all residents. This behavior has caused New Orleans Parish to lose eligibility for crucial federal grants—funding that directly supports housing and livable resources. As a result, families are struggling, and our community is being left behind.

It’s time to take a stand. On December 5, 2024, at 10 AM, join us at the Council Members' Chamber at City Hall. Let’s demand accountability and insist that leadership prioritizes all of us. Bring a friend or neighbor—we need to show them our collective strength.

Will you stand with us? Together, we can reclaim our city’s future.
