Now spinning: Death from Detroit - ...For the Whole World to See

Initially starting out as a funk group, the band soon began to experiment with the proto-punk style prior to disbanding in 1977.

Interestingly enough, their album was re-discovered almost 30 years later and re-released, allowing for a wider audience to appreciate its ingenuity. 🤘

Blood Incantation - Luminescent Bridge, what a trip 👽

This 2 song maxi-single packs a punch, transporting the listener on a journey encapsulating both the old school death metal sound and dissonant cosmic ambience that we have come to expect from our alien overlords.

Both sides are complementary to one another, with Obliquity Of The Ecliptic blasting us off into deep space, leaving us hovering lifeless over the Luminescent Bridge, possibly into their next venture.

Really looking forward to hear what the band have in store for us with their next project, given that the bar keeps getting set higher with every release. Excellent musicianship as always, displaying to us their love for 90s death metal, synths and cult worship.

Devo's Art Devo Demo Compilation on Nuclear Rubber vinyl, released by FUTURISMO Inc. has landed at Cacophony HQ.

Art Devo boasts 3 records in its set, spanning the early band's 70s work, finally pressed on vinyl. As a Hardcore Devo fan (both the band and the compilation, ha ha), it was great to see these obscure tracks finally leaving the vault and getting the recognition they deserve.

The box set also contains a number of art-cards, with liner notes from both Mark Mothersbaugh and DEVO’s Gerald V. Casale, along with an interesting scratch and sniff card featuring the smell of rubber synonymous with Akron's De-evolution band.

This is Devo in its purest form, pick up this box set if you haven't done so yet!!

The wait is over. Episode 18 featuring Anders Colsefni is OUT NOW!!

For the uninitiated, Slipknot (yes, that little known nu metal band from corn state, Iowa) released an album called Mate Feed Kill Repeat in 1996, prior to signing with Roadrunner Records Back in the day, the band sported a different line up, featuring Anders on vocals and percussion. This album is an eclectic collection of death/grind/hardcore/funk/jazz and soul (yes, you read that right!) and one of my favourite releases of all time.

It is with great pleasure (and disbelief) that I can finally announce the release of this episode. Over the 1 hour long episode, we discuss his musical journey, MFKR and his upcoming tour. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the interview.

A few weeks ago, Stuart and I went on a pre-show pilgrimage to Battersea Power Station , the site where Pink Floyd's Animals' cover was taken.

Really cool to have seen this important piece of prog history up close and personal 🐖🐕🐑

Very late to the party but as always, I preferred postponing my initial listening to a future date to be able to hear it on vinyl.

SUFFOCATING HALLUCINATIONS, what a trip. As a big fan of both Full of Hell and PRIMITIVE MAN I knew that this anxiety laced noise trip was going to blow me away the second I heard the single "Rubble Home".

The two bands wrote and recorded this album together over 7 days at Bricktop Recording Studios. This noise offering found me in a trance, swaying to the oscillating dystopic distortions and slowly picking up subtleties in the main sound. The sheer crushing power of this release had me in an contradictory headspace of stress and serenity (particularly during Dwindling Will, when the relinquishing feeling of soft noise washes over you).

The intensity of both bands' musicians and vocalists went hand in hand and I can't stress how much I enjoyed this release.

Last but not least, the artwork for this joint effort features a number of biblical themes including an ominous Ophanim on the back cover, reminding you that noise is omnipresent, and always watching. I feel that the artwork further helps to drive the message that noise is beyond us, and is both intense and unintelligble, speaking to us in tongues beyond our comprehension.
Great stuff gents!

The wait is over. Cacophony is back again in September with its 18th episode featuring an ex-member and co-founder of the Nu Metal legends, Slipknot.

Back in 1996, Slipknot released Mate Feed Kill Repeat, an eclectic collection of death/grind/hardcore/funk/jazz and soul (yes you read that right!)

It is with great pleasure (and some starstruck disbelief) that I can finally reveal Mr Anders Colsefni's podcast debut out on my show. Over the 1 hour long episode, we discuss his musical journey and MFKR in general. I hope you will enjoy this as much as I enjoyed the interview.

Finally had some time to spin my copy of Chat Pile's soundtrack to the Tenkiller Movie. Right off the bat this album showcases the band's versatility, departing from their usual noise rock while still retaining, and incorporating their signature sound into a droning, eerie landscape that was super enjoyable.

Lake time is my favourite of the bunch. Won't give too much away because it will take you by surprise if you haven't checked it out yet. There's also some banging kaiju references in there too if you're into that!
