2024 Canadian Grand Prix Review

Max Verstappen took an outstanding victory at the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix in an action packed wet-to-dry race, which saw three different drivers lead the way and challenge for a spot on the top step of the podium. George Russell was unable to convert his pole position to victory but did secures Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team’s first podium of the 2024 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season. Lance Stroll secured points at his home Grand Prix, while Daniel Ricciardo scored points for the first time in a full race format in 2024. It was a disappointing race for both Scuderia Ferrari drivers and Sergio Pérez, as they failed to finish.

BWT Alpine F1 Team and Esteban Ocon have agreed together to part ways at the end of the 2024 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season, the conclusion of the Frenchman’s contract with the team. Esteban recorded two further podiums during his five years, achieving second place at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, his first visit to the rostrum in Formula 1, and third place at the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix. He achieved a best finish of eighth in the 2022 Drivers’ Championship, contributing to the team’s fourth-place finish in the Constructors’ Championship that year.

Newgarden goes back-to-back in thrilling, rain-delayed Indy 500 win over O’Ward!

After Sunday’s stop-and-start, delayed-four-hours race, two of those wins belong to Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden. Dueling with Pato O’Ward of Arrow McLaren, the Nashville native found himself behind the young Mexican driver with just two turns to go on Lap 200. As O’Ward started “snaking” down the backstretch, Newgarden gained momentum and pulled alongside the five-time IndyCar race winner. In Turn 3, it looked like two would careen into the outer wall together, but Newgarden found grip, and pulled ahead in one of the most daring moves you’ll ever see at the Indianapolis.

Formula 1 heads to Monte Carlo this weekend for the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix and Round 8 of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. Indy 500 Qualifying viewership up nearly 40% from 2023!📈👏

Fueled by a NASCAR superstar, record-setting speeds, and a battle between a teenager and a veteran of the sport for the final spot in the race, NBC’s coverage of the second day of Indianapolis 500 qualifying recieved a TAD (Total Audience Delivery) of 1.22 million viewers across the linear broadcast and its streaming service, Peacock. That number is a 38% increase from the same event last year, which clocked a TAD of 842,000 viewers.

Whether running with qualifying or race setups, there is one indisputable fact this Month of May: Team Penske is fast.

Josef Newgarden led the two-hour practice Monday for the 108th edition of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” as teams shifted from the all-out speed of PPG Presents Armed Forces Qualifying last weekend to stable setups for the race Sunday, May 26. Newgarden, who qualified third Sunday, turned a best lap of 226.238 mph in the No. 2 Shell Powering Progress Team Penske Chevrolet.

Siegel bumped from Indy 500 field - Legge, Ericsson, Rahal make up final row🏎️

After a tumultuous month of May, Dale Coyne Racing rookie Nolan Siegel has been bumped from the Indy 500 field. Siegel, who is running four races in the No. 18 for Coyne while running full-time in Indy NXT with HMD Motorsports, spun and hit the Turn 2 wall during his final qualifying attempt and will not take part in next Sunday’s race. The rookie was bested by Katherine Legge, Marcus Ericsson, and Graham Rahal, who will start next Sunday’s Indy 500 31st, 32nd, and 33rd respectively. Rahal had praise for Siegel after locking himself into the field.

Indy 500 practice notebook: Day 3!🏎

Another day of practice for the 108th Running of the Indy 500 is in the books, and it was yet another day interrupted by rain. However, before the drops started to come down, teams got about six hours of green flag action, the most of any of the three practice days so far. Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward posted the fastest overall speed of the day at 228.861 miles per hour, which is the third-fastest lap of any practice session. Speaking on his speed so far this week, the Mexican driver is just having fun with it.

Rahal relying on experience to help younger team members before 17th 500 start!

To say Graham Rahal is no stranger to the Indianapolis 500 is an understatement. In fact, Rahal’s history with the race before he was even born. In 1982, seven years before Graham’s birth, his father Bobby competed at Indy for the first time. Four years later, he won the 500, cementing his place in history. For his son, although that coveted victory hasn’t come yet, his 16 starts have come with plenty of experience. That experience is starting to help the six-time race winner mentor some of the younger engineers and mechanics working on his team: “As a veteran guy now, at least at my level, it’s not only me, it’s trying to help the engineer. Because I have a lot of young engineers too.” said Rahal at Tuesday’s media bullpen.

Persistent rain in Central Indiana once again prevented practice for the 108th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, which was scheduled to start today at 10 a.m. ET.🏎

The forecast looks better for this afternoon, and practice will be extended to 7 p.m. ET once cars start turning laps on the 2.5-mile oval. Practice Thursday also has been expanded to 10 a.m.-6 p.m. due to the limited track time Tuesday and today due to rain. The opening day practice was washed out after just 23 minutes of track time.
