WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY MORNING THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON

WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches possible. Winds could gust up to around 40 mph by Tuesday afternoon and evening and cause periods of drifting and blowing snow.

WHERE... South, and Central Iowa

WHEN...From Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon.

IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions will likely impact the morning and evening commutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation.

If travel must be done, be sure to have a winter car kit and follow check 511ia.org for road conditions.

* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 3 inches with locally higher amounts.

* WHERE...Portions of Central, South Central and Southeast Iowa.

* WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 8 AM CST Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This will be the first measurable snowfall of the season in these areas. Be prepared for snow covered roads and allow extra time to reach your destination.

Storms will fire up along a boundary in western/central Iowa Friday mid morning. These storms will move quickly. A few strong tornadoes are possible.
An enhanced risk (Orange) means a greater risk for severe weather is increasingly possible.

PINK SHADED - WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST
SATURDAY. Central Iowa is included in this warning until Thursday at noon.

Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Wind gusts of 40
to 50 mph or greater may occur late Thursday through Friday. Extreme cold and wind chills of 20 to 40 below will be common.

ORANGE SHADED - BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON THURSDAY TO 6 AM CST
SATURDAY

Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches, with
locally higher amounts possible. Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph or greater may occur late Thursday through Friday. Extreme cold and wind chills of 20 to 40 below will be common.

* WHAT...Snow and blowing snow will begin late Wednesday afternoon
and continue through Friday night. Blizzard conditions possible
Thursday morning into Friday. Total snow accumulations of 3 to
6 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Wind gusts of 40
to 50 mph or greater may occur late Thursday through Friday.
Extreme cold and wind chills of 20 to 40 below will be common.

* WHERE...Central and south-central Iowa

* WHEN...From 6 PM Wednesday to 6 AM CST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing
snow and possible blizzard conditions will significantly reduce
visibility. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. The
dangerously cold wind chills as low as 40 below zero could cause
frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
