RTI activists Sujit Mulgund and Rajeev Toppannavar, along with High Court advocate Nitin Bolabandi, have alleged that several corporators in Belagavi have violated Section 19 of the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act by concealing properties—many reportedly held in their spouses’ names.

📜 Section 19 of the KMC Act
This section mandates that corporators must annually declare the assets and liabilities of themselves, their spouses, and dependents. Failure to do so—or submission of false or incomplete declarations—leads to automatic disqualification.

⚖️ What’s Next?
The activists are demanding immediate scrutiny and strict legal enforcement. If the Corporation fails to act, they intend to pursue legal remedies to uphold transparency and public accountability in urban governance.

Under the extended Shakti Yojana, all students from LKG to PUC in government schools will now enjoy free travel on government buses across Karnataka. The move aims to improve attendance and support underprivileged families, especially in rural areas.

Ramnagar Police, led by PSI Mahantesh Naik, intercepted a Tata Yodha carrying 1930 kg of beef and 7 calves near Ramnagar on July 7.

👮‍♂️ Two Arrested:
Belagavi residents Siddappa Bandur and Raju Naik were arrested. The injured calves were rescued and sent for veterinary care.

📜 Legal Action Initiated:
Case filed under the Karnataka Cattle Act, BNS, and Motor Vehicle Act. A strong message against illegal cattle transport.

🚨The Urban Development (UD) Secretary has officially dismissed the appeals filed by Belagavi Mayor Mangesh Pawar and Corporator Jayant Jadhav against their earlier disqualification orders.

👉 What happened:
Earlier in 2025, both were disqualified for allegedly failing to disclose ownership of municipal shops held in their spouses’ names—a violation under the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act.

👉 Why it matters:
With the UD Secretary’s final order, their disqualification as corporators now stands confirmed, leading to Mangesh Pawar’s removal as Mayor of Belagavi.

👉 What’s next:
The Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) will soon initiate the process to elect a new Mayor and fill the vacant corporator positions.

This decision underscores the importance of transparency and disclosure in public office.

In a strong step towards tackling substance abuse, Police Commissioner Bhushan Borse has pledged to make Belagavi district drug-free. A meeting was held at the Police Commissioner’s office where officials from the Food Safety and Drug Administration, office bearers of the Wholesale and Retail Pharmaceutical Association, and local pharmacists gathered for an open discussion on drug misuse.

The Police Commissioner emphasized strict monitoring, community awareness, and regular action against illegal drug circulation in the district.
