BESAO FOR SAFE ELECTIONS 2022 CONDUCTS A UNITY WALK ANEW

Another Unity Walk for Besao LGU political candidates has been sponsored by the municipality's Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in partnership with the Philippine National Police (PNP) this March 18, 2022 in Kin-iway, Besao, Mountain Province. UNTIL THE FINAL HEARTBEAT
-lyrics written by Bag-iw….29/NOV/2021

[verse1]
E A E
A rain without an end, is what the doctor said.
C # B A E
Something eating up the mind, and that would explain why.
E A E
You forgot the things you do, like saying “I love you.”
C # B A E
Like humming to the radio, and you can’t tie your shoe. .

[chorus 1]
B A C # B
Like the words of a love song, vanished in the blue.
A E B A E
Your mind just wanders somewhere else, no matter what we do.
B A C # B
But it’s alright. I will still hold you tight just to let you know;
A E B A E
Until the final heartbeat, I won’t give up on you.

[verse2]
E A E
You can’t recall your name, I found you in the dark.
C # B A E
You looked at me with empty eyes, with no more shining spark.
E A E
All those words you used to say, the poems of long ago.
C # B A E
Their silence turned to question, with answers we don’t know.

[chorus 1]
B A C # B
Like the words of a love song, vanished in the blue.
A E B A E
You mind just wanders somewhere else, no matter what we do.
B A C # B
But it’s alright. I will still hold you tight just to let you know;
A E B A E
Until the final heartbeat, I won’t give up on you.

[bridge]
D A B
And I will hold your hand until the end,
D A B
When memories have left you in the rain.
G D A
And I don’t mind at all because I know,
G A D
The heartbeat is the final one to go.
G A D
The heartbeat is the final one to go.

[chorus 2]
B A C # B
When the words of a love song, can’t seem to find your soul.
A E B A E
I will still be there tomorrow, to guide you down the road.
B A C # B
And it’s alright. I will still hold you tight just to let you know;
A E B A E
Until the final heartbeat, I won’t give up on you.

Men - istolya tako.

Kanan da, nu wada nan entako istolyaen et wada nan maadal tako, wada nan maibati tako. Our culture is an oral culture, a tradition that is steeped in stories that we pass thru generations. The words may change but that is why they are alive because with each passing, with each telling, we find ourselves.

Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction but would still be a reflection of our realities. It is meant to spark conversation and to awaken and help us understand our humanity.

Will attempt to write a story part every week.

Iyaman!

BESAO COMELEC CLOSES THE FILING OF COCs WITH 2 MAYORS, 2 VICE-MAYORS AND 25 COUNCILORS.

- Melany Eslao Timmango

The Commission on Elections, this municipality announces the list of candidates for the local elective positions during the May 9, 2022 elections, as follows:

Two (2) candidates will run the race for the mayoralty seat. They are incumbent SB Member Bryne "Butch" Otingguey Bacwaden of Kin-iway and retired Colonel Dennis Belinan Dumanew of Agawa. Both filed their COC during the first hour of the first day of filing of candidacy.

Meanwhile, incumbent Vice-mayor June Tade Lopsoten will be challenged by incumbent SB Member Elizabeth Ayyawan Buyagan. Hon. Lopsoten served as SB Member for two consecutive terms before becoming the vice-mayor in 2016. He is currently serving his second term. Likewise, Hon. Buyagan is presently on her second term as a legislature.

Interestingly, 25 candidates will be battling and juggling for the 8 seats at the Sangguniang Bayan. Of the 25 aspirants, 5 are re-electionists [Antiyag, Badongen, Bing-il, Kidangen and Lacsigen]; 4 are come-backing [Beyden, Bosigen, Mangallay and Martin]; 3 are re-trying their luck [Canipas, Semon and Songaben Gertrude] and the other 13 are neophytes. Of the fresh names, 2 are priests [Ambucay and Buking] while 3 are incumbent barangay captains [Ganima of Lacmaan who is currently the president of the League of Barangay Captains, thus an ex-officio member of the Sanggungiang Bayan, Mangayen of Catengan and Songaben Victor of Kiniway]. Mr. Modesto Callisen served as barangay captain in Mankayan before retiring in Suquib. Finally, the new candidates are complemented by businessmen.

Wherefore, Ms. Mary G. Umaming, the Election Officer of this municipality acknowledges all the stakeholders for the orderly and peaceful conduct of the filing of certificates of candidacies.

‘Kali’ is the Applai for ‘spoken word’. It can be used as a noun such as when we say ‘San kalim (your word)’ or as a verb ‘Enka i-kali’ (go speak a word). The word is apt for this column, I think because at the end of the day when we talk about our identity as i-Besao, we are defined by our words, ‘nan kali tako’.

The Besao Sunset has been one of the beautiful scenes that Besao can offer.

The Besao Sunset was also the community paper that originated as a school paper of Saint James High School. Back then, it had subscriptions by locals and former residents who has migrated to other locations. It began as a typewritten paper on mimeograph stencils and reproduced/printed, generally, on 8.5in x 13in mimeographing paper through a manual mimeomachine.

Technology has changed ever since. The old Underwood typewriters as well as the clunky mimeographing machine may have been lost forever, in the fire and through these years. We are now online. News travel faster than a page can be printed in one rotation of the mimeographing machine. Photos and drawings can be scanned and shared more than an editorial cartoon can be etched with a stylus.

We aim to bring stories from inside and outside of Besao to its people.

Welcome to the Besao Sunset Online paper.
