One of the most important relationships you and I have is the relationship we have with ourself. Many of us struggle to make ourselves a priority. We tend to keep ourselves so busy whether it be building a business, climbing the corporate ladder or simply taking care of other people and in the process we ignore our own needs.

Self care is needed for everyone, not just for those who are stressed and practicing self care certainly doesn't mean that you are choosing yourself over your loved ones or your work. It means that you are being mindful of your own needs so that you are better able to care for and serve others in the way in which you were meant to.

The practice of self care is very individualized and what you consider to be your best self care activities will be different from others but the goal is always the same - to experience better health and well being. Self care is anything you can do to take care of yourself so you can stay physically, mentally and emotionally well.

If you haven't already developed a regular self care routine, I highly recommend you do so! To really maximize the benefits of a self care routine it needs to be done on a regular basis. Choose just one behavior to incorporate into your routine each week that will fill you with joy and help you to maintain balance. These activities could be sleeping a certain amount each night, eating healthy, exercising daily, spending time with friends/family, getting a manicare or a massage, journaling, quiet time with God, meditating, etc. The more you do this and the more consistent you are with it over times, you will see just how much it helps to manage your stress and anxiety and increase your energy and overall happiness.

Investing in yourself with a consistent self care routine requires a commitment to putting yourself first! Start putting yourself first and make it a daily practice to incorporate some self care and you will reap the amazing benefits!

It's hard to be happy and positive with so much negativity around us all the time, isn't it? In 2021 I decided to start a gratitude journal in addition to my regular journal I was keeping. Since starting this daily practice I have been able to witness some great changes in my mindset along with a more positive outlook I would have each day. It has become such a habit of mine that when I don't do it, I feel off that day.

Practicing daily gratitude not only helps you to get your day started off with a positive mindset, but it also helps you to be able to better handle whatever situation may come your way. We all have those unexpected curve balls that our thrown our way on the daily! Studies have consistently shown that expressing gratitude also reduces symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression.

When I first got started doing this I would just write down my 3 things I was grateful for each day. But after about 6 months or so, I changed it up and now after I write my list, I go back and reflect over each thing I am grateful for and really allow myself to feel and lean into whatever emotions it brings about in me. This was when I really started to see the positive benefits!

The reason why gratitude is so powerful when practiced on a regular basis is because if releases dopamine and seratonin in our brains - the two chemicals that play a positive role in our happiness. When we fill our brain with positive thoughts we can expect that we can improve all areas of our life including our relationships and health and helping us reach out goals and fulfill our dreams.

So what are you waiting for? Go grab yourself a journal and start writing down what you are thankful for each day and see the positive transformational effects this can have on your life!

Are there achievements that you have reached in your life and you know that the only way you were able to do it was because of your hard work? I'm pretty sure we all can identify those achievements. These positive outcomes were a result of putting in many, many tiny efforts and sacrifices on a consistent basis that no one sees or appreciates. This is called the "Law of Accumulation" and this is something we all should be taking advantage of because it works!

I saw how this worked for me. Years ago I was ridiculously afraid to speak in front of others. I would do whatever I could to avoid any situation that involved me getting up to share anything about myself or my business. I hated living like this and decided one day I was going to go to work at conquering this fear. I took Improv classes, joined Toastmasters and continued to put myself in uncomfortable situations as often as possible. With my consistent effort over a few years I overcame my fear of public speaking and I now welcome any opportunity to speak in front of others. What was something I once dreaded, I now really enjoy!

All of us want to be successful but not everyone is willing to put in the work and sacrifice it takes to get there. Know and accept the fact that when you set out on this journey to reach whatever goal you have set for yourself that you will face failures and setbacks along the way, but for those of us who continue to courageously and relentlessly pursue our goals, we are the ones who will reap from the benefits of the Law of Accumulation.

I believe in you and know that you can do whatever you set your mind to do! Gain some momentum this week by intentionally working on your goals every single day!

Happy Momentum Monday!

I want to provide you with some tips that have helped me to grow, learn and ultimately be successful in my life by gaining momentum in small consistent daily habits. Today I want to share with you a little about the 5 Second Rule - no, I'm not talking about the 5 second rule where you drop some food on the floor and then you must pick it up before 5 seconds pass for it to still be good (I promise I don't do this...but maybe you do and this is a no judgement zone)! I am talking about the 5 Second Rule that Mel Robbins has become known for. Basically it is acting on a thought or idea within 5 seconds before your brain talks you out of doing it. And boy, does our brain like to do that, doesn't it?!

Here's how it works -

Once you have an urge to do something, you must act on it within the 5 seconds by counting down backwards from 5 to 1. When you count backwards like this, you are actually hacking your brain because when you count backwards your brain actually stops thinking and it gives you a few seconds to take action! When you do this you will distract your brain from coming up with reasons and excuses to not do it. And guess what? Like anything else, the more you do this, you will see that it gets easier and easier to do the things you want to do and the quicker you will see results!

So the next time you have an idea to do something and are dragging your feet and feeling like you just don't want to do it, 5-4-3-2-1 it! And do it out loud. Ok, maybe you are at work or out with people and that would just be weird right? So just do it in your head! This works great for trying to quit a bad habit as well. Like not eating something unhealthy, getting up in the morning and counting backwards and jumping out of bed before you hit "1" , or stopping a negative thought pattern. Or maybe you are wanting to go to the gym, start a new hobby or do something that you have been afraid to do for some time.

Start using the 5 second rule and take the actions you need to take to change your life for the better!

How do you talk to yourself? What things are you saying to yourself every day?

There is no denying it…we all do it. It might not always be out loud, but we all carry on an inner dialogue with ourselves though out our day.

You might be like a lot of people that think negatively of themselves much of the time. Most of us are so quick to pick out all of our flaws. We constantly judge ourselves and get down because we don’t have the body we want, the hair we wish we had, the job that we think we would be happier at, the “perfect” marriage that so and so has, etc. The list goes on and on.

**News Flash**… You will never have everything exactly as you want and you will make plenty of mistakes along the way. But guess what? That’s completely normal and that is perfectly OK!

Start today by showing kindness to yourself and accepting yourself for who you are at this very moment-flaws and all! The key here is accepting yourself and not judging yourself. This can be so hard to do. I get it, I really do! Whatever it is that you find yourself struggling with right now, do your best to keep it in perspective and know that it’s normal to have flaws and to make mistakes.

But most importantly…love yourself for who you are at this very moment. You are one of a kind and truly very special ❤️

We all hate being faced with something hard in our lives. ⁣

But you know, sometimes God allows difficult circumstances in our lives in order to get our attention and to make us more like Him.⁣
