The Unit 4 school board meeting is TODAY. U4 BOE resolution to declare racism as a public health crisis.

The Champaign Unit 4 school board is meeting Wednesday June 24 at 4PM to discuss and pass a resolution declaring that racism is a public health crisis that negatively impacts our students, our school staff, our families, and our community.

Parents and community members plan on rallying together at the Mellon Building before the meeting. Please wear a mask if you plan on attending.

Parents and community members can make a 3-minute public comment in-person (please wear a mask) at the Mellon Building. Public comment will begin shortly after 4PM.

People can also submit a comment to be read into the record by emailing the school board at [email protected]

"After slavery, we would see a wave of lynching, imprisonment, and Jim Crow laws take its place. That has lead to a disproportionate impact of mass incarceration, discriminatory housing policies, and a lack of economic wealth building and ownership opportunities. And now as the nation has come together for the Black Lives Matter Movement to protest against police violence and systemic racism, it is clear that while progress has been made since June 19, 1865, there are still barriers that impede progress."

Camille delves deep into herself to share her experiences with her emerging sexuality and acceptance. She intentionally explores family dynamics and expectations that others have of her as well as the struggles of asserting herself as a girl of color. Her writing style is both figurative and literal and encourages the reader to search themselves for their truth.

Proudly presenting the first edition of Luminous Magazine featuring the Writers of Oya. This is a PRINT magazine. As always our goal is to shift the perspective and give voices to the voiceless. Each magazine you buy will be matched with an in-kind donation by Buy Black Chambana to provide this magazine to youth. Representation matters! We especially want to thank Kreative Vision Photography for helping this project come to life and donating her time.

We are preparing for our first issue of Luminous Magazine which will be featuring articles from the Writers of Oya. Writers of Oya aim to teach middle school girls, particularly girls of color, how to compose poetry as a skill to both express and assert themselves. Kreative Vision Photography will be bringing this vision to life with our photoshoot set for next week so no I will not be on the cover unfortunately!
