Jessore Road

লুব্ধক(Sirius) রাতের আকাশের সবচেয়ে উজ্জ্বলতম নক্ষত্র। অবস্থান অনুযায়ী এখন আপনি দক্ষিন বা ঈষৎ দক্ষিণপশ্চিম আকাশে একে দেখতে পারবেন ! তাই আকাশের উজ্জ্বলতম তারকাটিকে আজকেই চিনে রাখুন ! মৃগব্যাধ(canis major) নক্ষত্রমণ্ডলের উজ্জ্বলতম নক্ষত্র বিধায় একে ইংরেজিতে কখনও কখনও "আলফা ক্যানিস মেজোরিস(alpha canis majoris)" নামে আখ্যায়িত হয়।লুব্ধকের আপাত উজ্জ্বলতা -১.৪৭।এটি পৃথিবী থেকে মাত্র ৮.৬ আলোকবর্ষ দূরে অবস্থিত।লুব্ধক সৌরজগতের অন্যতম নিকটতম প্রতিবেশী এবং লুব্ধক ধীরে ধীরে সৌরজগতের নিকটবর্তী হচ্ছে। এ কারণে আগামী ৬০,০০০ বছরে এর উজ্জ্বলতা সামান্য বৃদ্ধি পাবে। এই সময়ের পর লুব্ধক সৌরমণ্ডল থেকে দূরে সরে যাবে কিন্তু আরো ২১০,০০০ বছর লুব্ধক পৃথিবীর আকাশে উজ্জ্বল নক্ষত্র হিসেবেই থাকবে।

প্রাচীনকালে মিশরে লুব্ধক ছিল তাদের শক্তিশালী দেবী আইসিস (Isis) এর প্রতীক। আবার প্রাচীন ভারতে লুব্ধক ছিল রুদ্র বা শিবের প্রতীক। লুব্ধকের সাথে জড়িত গ্রীষ্মের ভয়াবহতা। রোমান সভ্যতায় প্রচণ্ড গরমের এই দিন গুলোকে বলা হত কুকুরের দিন (Dog days) এবং লুব্ধকের ক্রোধ থেকে বাঁচার জন্য এসময় বাদামী রংয়ের কুকুর বলি দেয়ার নিয়ম ছিল। ধারণা করা হত লুব্ধকের আছরে রাস্তার কুকুরেরা এসময় পাগলামি করে, পৃথিবী নিস্তেজ আর প্রাণহীন হয়ে পড়ে, পুরুষেরা দুর্বল হয়ে পড়ে। এই সব লক্ষণ প্রকাশ করলে তাকে বলা হত তারকাহত। চেউস (ceos) দ্বীপে লুব্ধকের কাছ থেকে ঠাণ্ডা বাতাস প্রার্থনা করে পূজা করা হত।

লুব্ধক তারকা ব্যাবস্থা মুলত দুটি তারার সমন্বয়ে গঠিত।অর্থাৎ , বাইনারি ব্যাবস্থা ! বাইনারি সিস্টেমে দুইটি নক্ষত্র এদের মিলিত ভারকেন্দ্রকে পর্যাবৃত্তিক ভাবে প্রদক্ষিন করে ! মুলত লুব্ধক বলতে আমরা "সিরিয়াস এ" কে বুঝি যার ভর সূর্যের ভরের প্রায় দ্বিগুণ এবং এর ঔজ্জ্বল্য সূর্যের ২৫ গুণ। কিন্তু এর উজ্জলতা অন্যান্য তারা হতে কম। যেমনঃ অগস্ত্য(canopus), বাণরাজা(rigel)। সিরিয়াস-এ এর পৃষ্ঠের তাপমাত্রা ৯৯৪০ ডিগ্রি সেলসিয়াস যা সূর্যের তাপমাত্রার প্রায় ১.৮ গুন ! এর কারন হল নক্ষত্রটির জন্ম মাত্র কয়েকশ মিলিয়ন বছর । বর্ণালী পরীক্ষায় ধাতবতা নিরুপন করে ধারনা করা এই নক্ষত্রের জন্ম ৩০০ মিলিয়ন বছর পূর্বে। অপর "সিরিয়াস বি" তারাটি ১২০ মিলিয়ন বছর পূর্বে শ্বেত বামন তারায়(white dwarf star) পরিণত হয়েছে। আমাদের সূর্যও ৫-৫.৫ বিলিওন বছর পড়ে শ্বেত বামন তারকায় পরিনত হবে !
