JIGAWA STATE PENSION REFORMS.

Jigawa State Deputy Governor Engr. Aminu Usman Gumel Represented His Excellency Governor of Jigawa state Malam Umar A. Namadi, Fca in Reaffirmed the Pensions reforms Committee.

Recall that the Governor constituted the Pension Reforms Committee last week at the Government House, Dutse, and he pledged to take action to address and reform the pension system so that every civil servant might benefit from their benefits and pensions after serving their state.

It is commonly recognised that Jigawa is the best state in terms of good pension policy for its employees, and pensioners never complain about not receiving their payments on time, much less being in arrears for months.

The meeting was held at the Govermemt House Dutse , and all the stakeholders and committee members are present at the meeting.

Insha Allah Jigawa State Goverment will do it's Possible Best in ensuring good atmosphere to the People of the State.

ENERGY TRANSITION: WHY NIGERIA SHOULD BENEFIT MORE FROM ITS GAS RESERVES, BY OSINBAJO

*US Special Envoy, John Kerry commends FG's Energy Transition Plan in meeting with VP

The use of gas as a transition fuel would not only help in stemming deforestation, it would also advance Nigeria's broader development goals, especially because Nigeria has one of the largest gas reserves in the world, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

The same would be true as other developing countries would also benefit from the adoption of gas as a transition fuel.

Prof. Osinbajo stated this on Tuesday night when he received at the Presidential Villa, the US Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Change, Mr. John Kerry, who was on a working visit to Nigeria. Prior to his meeting with the VP, Mr. Kerry had also met with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking at the meeting with Kerry and the US delegation, the Vice President highlighted the need for Nigeria to continue the exploration and use of gas as a way of arresting deforestation, transiting away from dirtier fuels like diesel, kerosene and petrol, while at the same time ensuring that the country has the necessary energy baseload for industrialization.

Pointing out that Nigeria has one of the largest gas reserves in the world and should benefit from its exploitation, the VP also highlighted the significance of Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan, which is the first in Africa.

It would be recalled that Prof. Osinbajo had discussed the Energy Transition Plan during his recent visit to Washington D.C., where the VP met with his American counterpart, VP Kamala Harris at the White House, among other top US government officials. Before the recent US trip, the Federal Government had launched the Energy Transition Plan at a global virtual event.

Jigawa Pension Board Pays N783M Terminal Benefits to 375 Retirees

Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has paidthe N783,734,328.06 million as a terminal benefit to 375 retired civil servants in the state.

The Executive Secretary of the scheme, Alhaji Kamilu Aliyu Musa, made this known at a press conference in his office.

Alhaji Kamilu Aliyu Musa said the amount was the terminal pension for those who retired from service from July to September, 2022.

According to him, the amount being paid will cover the retirement benefit, death pension and death pension balance.

He said the payment covered retirees from the State Civil Service, Local Government Councils’ service, and Local Education Authorities (LEAs).

He said N583,598,012.35 was paid to retirees who retired from State service, Local Government Councils (LGC) as well as in Local Government Education Authorities (LGEA).

He said the families of 32 deceased employees from the state civil service, 25 persons from the LGC and 15 persons from the LGEA received a total of N181,556, 867.29.

Alhaji Kamilu Aliyu Musa said a total of those on death pension balance are 23 in number and were given N18355,107,14.

The Executive Secretary said the board and the State government will continue to ensure the welfare of its workers, for better service delivery and the well-being of retirees after service.

He disclosed that Jigawa State is up-to-date in the payment of entitlements to retirees which includes those who died in active service.“

Alhaji Kamilu Aliyu Musa commended Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubukar for his untiring support and cooperation to the scheme.

IT’S A CELEBRATION OF DEMOCRACY, SAYS OSINBAJO AT KENYA’S PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION

The inauguration of Dr. William Ruto as Kenya’s 5th President is a celebration of democracy and democratic institutions in Africa, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Prof. Osinbajo stated this on Tuesday while speaking to journalists shortly after the swearing-in ceremony held at the Moi International Sports Stadium in Nairobi.

Earlier on arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, Prof. Osinbajo was received by the former Governor of Kwale County, Hon. Salim Mvurya, and Nigeria's High Commissioner to Kenya, Amb. Yusuf Yunusa, among other officials of the High Commission.

Speaking about the significance of President Ruto’s inauguration, the Vice President said “it is a celebration of democracy and the reasons are obvious, the institutions held up - the IEBC (Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission), the equivalent of our own INEC, and the Judiciary; they held up and ensured that not only were processes properly followed but also that justice was done.”

Speaking further, the VP said, “whenever we talk about the celebration of democracy, we are really talking about the celebration of our institutions, the institutions that undergird democracy and the rule of law.”

“I think that what we have seen here in Kenya and the swearing-in of Dr. William Ruto is really evidence of robust institutions doing what they ought to do.

“It is a great example and we are all extremely pleased. And I’m sure you have seen, from all of the African Heads of State and Governments and their representatives who are present here today, that there is an atmosphere of elation and joy because this worked,” Prof. Osinbajo added.

The high point of the occasion was the oath-taking ceremonies by the newly elected President and his deputy - Rigathi Gachagua, as well as the handover of instruments of power and a copy of Kenya's Constitution from former President Uhuru Kenyat

COURT DISMISSES SUIT AGAINST APC IN JIGAWA

The High Court in Jigawa state has dismissed suit against the All Progressives Congress in Jigawa state APC challenge the validity of the Governorship primaries that saw Malam Umar Namadi, the Deputy Governor as the winner of the election.

Honorable Faruku Adamu Aliyu was the aspirant that challenges the validity of the primary election, however, the high court judge after hearing and analyzing the case from the complainant and the defendant dismissed the case.

The Deputy Governor of Jigawa state Alhaji Umar Namadi emmerged victorious at the primaries after he defeated eight of his contenders with 1220 popular votes.

Other aspirants: Aminu Kani got 16 votes, Sen. Sabo Nakudu- 106 votes, Farooq Adamu Aliyu- 13 votes, Sani Hussaini Garin-Gabas- 5 votes and Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia- 58 votes.

Ahmad Rufa’i Zakari, Adamu Mukhtar, and Ahmad Muhammad scored zero votes.
