TBR Feature šŸ“š

Iā€™m not reading as much as I would like right now, but thereā€™s so many amazing books on my shelves that I decided to start a new post series about them. Maybe this will help me pick my next read, or maybe itā€™ll help you pick yours!

The Muse of Maiden Lane is book 4 in the Belles of London series. Mimi Matthews does an incredible job with historical romance and the equine elements are flawless. The third book, the Lily of Ludgate Hill, was one of my favourite books last year! Iā€™m excited to dive into the last book in this series, Iā€™ve been looking forward to Stellaā€™s story for ages.

Is this series on your tbr? Or, whatā€™s a book on your tbr that youā€™re really excited about?

Rat & Cheese Challenge šŸ§€

I love it when gives us a challenge so hereā€™s mine! My loved ones are afraid to gift me books because I already have so manyā€¦but I did get two šŸ€

How to P**s Off Men - āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø, no notes. My bestie knows me well.

Metro 2033: a dystopian sci fi based on a video game. My brother got me this one and Iā€™m looking forward to it! Something tells me this will be a reading slump buster down the road.

Top 2024 Reads šŸ“š

Itā€™s hard to pick favourites, so Iā€™m going with the books that stood out to me the most over the year!

šŸŒŠ The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas - a truly epic classic that is a must read. Iā€™ll be thinking about this book for the rest of my life.

šŸŗ Atalanta by Jennifer Saint - a beautifully written retelling of one badass warrior and her equally badass adventures.

šŸ”„A Fire Endless by Rebecca Ross - takes the cake as the best sequel, audiobook and conclusion to a story.

šŸŒž Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez - the best contemporary romance of the year. Sweet and full of yearning, Iā€™ll be rereading this one!

Honourable mentions to some fantastic audiobooks:
šŸŽ§ Yellowface by R.F. Kuang
šŸŽ§ The Blighted Stars by Megan E. Oā€™Keefe
šŸŽ§ The Saint of Steel series by T Kingfisher

Minimalist Monday šŸƒ

Itā€™s been ages since I posted - but here I am! Iā€™ll be deep in the writing cave for most of the winter, so my posting schedule wonā€™t be consistent. Iā€™m really looking forward to diving into edits on my manuscript though āœļø

What is your first read of the year? Iā€™m rereading A River Enchanted and the audiobook is lovely!

ā€œRelief feels like happiness if you donā€™t know the difference.ā€

Stephen is a paladin, although not what he once was. Even three years after his godā€™s death, heā€™s still as lost as when the grief was fresh. Grace is a perfumer, and a damned good one. So what if she has a shady past? When Grace and Stephen witness an assassination gone wrong, they begin to work together to find out what is going on in their cityā€¦and who is behind it.

ā€œCompetence is its own punishment.ā€

This is hands down, the best meet cute I have ever read. EVER. I listened to the audio for this one and the amount of times I was full blown cackling while I was drivingā€¦it was fantastic. I love reading fantasy books with older characters - adventures donā€™t stop once youā€™re in your 30ā€™s, thatā€™s for sure! Though it is easier to put your back out. Kingfisher has a real gift when it comes to writing a slow burn romance. That, and I never, ever thought I would love a MMC named Stephen. No offense meant to the Stephenā€™s of the world!

Iā€™ve read a few books by this author and this one easily ranks as my favourite so far. Itā€™s rare to find a writer who makes me laugh that hard and yet is able to turn around and tug on my heartstrings in the same moment. This book has everything I want in a fantasy romance: a kind, solid MMC, a slightly anxious but competent FMC, a strong female friendship, and an adorable animal companion. Oh, and itā€™s hilarious. What else could you possibly want? Read it, and read it now!

Have you read any books by Kingfisher?

Chapter 35 šŸ“š

Anyone else have mixed feelings about their birthday? The introvert in me wants to turn my phone off and hide, but I love hearing from all my friends and family at the same time. What a dilemma to have, am I right?

My plans today involve writing, drinking tea, lunch with my fam and some uninterrupted reading time. Perhaps a visit to the bookstore is in order tooā€¦šŸ¤

What book are you kicking off November with? Iā€™m halfway through Starling House and loving it!

Fantasy Friday āš”ļø

All I want to do these days is hibernate, eat snacks, read and write fantasy books. Is that so much to ask?

What are you reading or writing this weekend? šŸ“š Iā€™m going to start my reread of my fantasy romance draft in preparation for my next round of edits. Hopefully, Iā€™ll have a chance to dive into a new read as well!

ā€œNobody ever noticed the magic, dusted through all corners of her life like dewdrops caught in cobwebs, because nobody was ever looking for it.ā€

Belle has grown used to hiding her magic from those around her, even from her lifelong best friend. Burnt out from her job and struggling with self doubt, her magic is the last thing on her mind as her 30th birthday approaches. When her coven summons her to prove her worthiness as a witch, Belle has no choice but to face her fears, or else she risks losing her magic forever.

ā€œNo matter which turn you take or hurdle you stumble at, youā€™ll always end up on the path thatā€™s meant for you.ā€

This was lovely! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the prose and the beautiful friendship between Belle and Ariadne. Belleā€™s relationship with her mother and grandmother was heartwarming. While this is marketed as a cozy fantasy, the stakes are pretty darn high - it still works, but itā€™s not exactly what I expected from this genre. I was hoping to find Rune swoon worthy but instead, he felt a bit like an afterthought. The real love story is between Belle and the women in her life! And her cat familiar, of course.

If you had a familiar, what kind of animal would it be? I would love to have a big cat, like a jaguar or a panther. Though my dogs would be easier to take out and about with meā€¦šŸ¤

All of these blocky headed beauties have enormous hearts to go with their personalities. Much like many of our favourite characters, these wonderful dogs often go through a lot of trauma before they get their happy ending. October is Pitbull Awareness Month and we would love for our booksta buds to get involved. Check out any of these amazing accounts for adorable dog photos, book recs and more!

šŸ¶ Pitbull Awareness Fun Fact šŸ¶
ā€œPitbullā€ is an umbrella term used to describe a variety of pitbull-type dogs including APBTs, staffies, bullies and more. All of our dogs have been labeled ā€œpitbullsā€ but youā€™ll notice they each look different!

If you have a pittie, tell us about them in the comments, or let us know what your favourite pet is!

If youā€™re able to donate and feel so inclined, please check out the rescues listed below.
