For throwback Thursday, we are going back exactly one year to when we were at the newest national park in the United States. The New River Gorge National Park is beautiful and well worth a visit. Enjoy the video.

After we left the superb Steamtown, we headed further south into Pennsylvania to visit the historic battleground of Gettysburg, a site that embodies the spirit of resilience and freedom. The battle, which lasted from July 1-3, 1863, was a pivotal moment in American history, marking a triumphant turning point for the Union as General Robert E. Lee's army was pushed back toward Richmond. More than 50,000 soldiers demonstrated unwavering courage, with many making the ultimate sacrifice, thereby shaping the course of American history.

We didn't get the entire way around the battlegrounds, but the experience was truly enriching, and we're inspired to plan better for our next visit.

The town of Gettysburg itself is a testament to the enduring legacy of the past, with many civil war properties still standing, recognized by a 𝓋ℯ𝓇𝓎 𝓈𝓂𝒶𝓁𝓁 brass plaque, a subtle yet powerful reminder of the sacrifices made.

Our plans have drastically changed and we can no longer attend the Martinsville NASCAR race; the penultimate race of the season

We have two tickets for each race (truck, xfinity and cup) and a camping spot for the week.

Please DM us if you’re interested in these tickets and camping.

Anyone who has pets in their rig, wether you be full or part time, know it can smell a little funky at times. We’ve tried everything from carpet sprays when vacuuming to essential oils. This only masks the funk.

However, we have a solution! This product is designed for cars etc but we researched and yes you can use in it RVs.

We love it and thought we’d share our good experience. We’ve added the link for convenience.

Happy Friday everyone. What plans do you have for the weekend?

We realized that we forgot to post our photos from our exciting day at Steamtown USA!

This was a one day whirlwind stop; we think you really need a couple of days to see and explore it all.

Steamtown USA occupies about 40 acres of the Scranton railroad yard of the former Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad, one of the earliest rail lines in northeastern Pennsylvania. At the heart of the park is the large collection of standard-gauge steam locomotives and freight and passenger cars that New England seafood processor F. Nelson Blount assembed in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1984, 17 years after Blount's untimely death, the Steamtown Foundation for the Preservation of Steam and Railroad Americana, Inc., brought the collection to Scranton, where it occupied the former DL&W yard. When Steamtown National Historic Site was created, the yard and the collection became part of the National Park System.

We enjoyed a small group tour of the relair shop and toured the other exhibits alone.

When in Newport RI you have to visit with the Vanderbilts. Sadly, they weren’t at their summer home, so we just had a walk around 😂

The Breakers is a Gilded Age mansion built between 1893 and 1895 for Cornelius Vanderbilt II. It sits on a 13-acre oceanfront estate, overlooking the Atlantic.

The mansion has 70 rooms, many richly decorated with imported materials from Europe. Its grand central hall rises with 45-foot ceilings and offers dramatic views.

Although called a “summer cottage,” it’s far from modest—The Breakers is seen as perhaps the pinnacle of Newport’s mansions, reflecting the immense wealth and social prominence of the Vanderbilts.

This morning we met a lovely couple from Massachusetts, who were waking up to their first morning as full timers and it was so lovely to meet them and feel their enthusiasm.

Sadly, I (Cat) didn’t get their names - it was before coffee. But we gave them a sticker, so hopefully they see this and know that we wish them all the luck and safety on their adventures.

This should be everyone’s mantra while towing a 32’ trailer. OR maybe we should print this, three ft sq and paste it to the back of our rig. 😂

Accurate and alive are the best choice; although we’re pretty sure that’s not what Mr Earp meant.

We visited Plymouth, Massachusetts, where the first pilgrims arrived from Europe in 1620.

125 people (102 passengers and 23 crew) took the 66 day long journey on the Mayflower, from Plymouth, England, and landed on what is now the State of Massachusetts.

Of the 102 pilgrims, 50 would die that first winter. It was only down to the kindness and business acumen of the Wampanoag Tribe that the remainder survived.

We visited the Patuxet Museum where member of the Wampanoag tribe explained their history, homes and boats which was fascinating. The museum also has a living history village recreation of the first seven homes built.

Kevin worked for the Brewster family for 38 years and they’re direct descendants of William Brewster from the Mayflower!

Plymouth Rock is more impressive than we imagined it to be and is symbolic rather than factual.

The Mayflower 2 was built in England and still sails!
