After a brief stop in SoCal for our family reunion, we headed to Colorado and Mesa Verde National Park.

As most of you know, I (Cat) am waiting for my second hip replacement surgery, so unfortunately we couldn’t tour like we wanted to. We did attend a wonderful Ranger talk and learned what is known of the cliff dwellings.

It’s a magical place where you learn the incredible history of the Ancestral Pueblo people who lived in Mesa Verde from approximately 550 to 1300 CE. They built stone communities in the canyon walls’ alcoves and lived on and around them for 700 years. No one knows why they abandoned these stone villages but their history is everywhere.

Did you know there’s only one location in the entire US, where you can stand in four states at once?

Four Corners is a region in the southwestern United States where the borders of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah meet.

We hadn’t planned to go, but when we were traveling from SoCal to Colorado it was on our way so we made the stop.

It’s a tourist trap and a little underwhelming, but at least we can say we’ve done it 😂

Our day at the Johnson Space Center, in Houston was incredible.

We splurged and took the VIP tour, including the historic and current Mission Control Centers. We were the first ever tour to handle space suits that have been used in space.

The 1969 Moon Landing Mission Control was awe-inspiring but the absolute highlight was live Mission Control for the International Space Station!

After we said a sad farewell to incredible Idaho, we headed south to SoCal for a doctors appointment.

On the way we were excited to stop in Ely, NV at the Nevada Northern Railway. This was a bucket list venue for Kev.

We not only enjoyed a self guided tour, but also got chatting to one of the engineers who gave us a private tour of the shop. It was everything we’d hoped for.

The historic railroad has a fabulous Instagram account and Kev has followed their shop cat ‘Dirt’ for years. Sadly, Dirt is no longer with us, but we were so happy to meet their new shop cat.

Happy Halloween, friends. We hope you all have a spooktakular day/night.

Did you know… the origins of Halloween go back thousands of years to the Celtic celebration of Samhain (pronounced “sow-win”), a festival that marked the end of the harvest season and ushered in a new year. During Samhain, the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead was thought to be especially thin, so people could communicate with loved ones who had passed on.

Later, November 1st became a Christian Feast Day to honor those saints who had reached heaven. The night before (October 31st) became All Hallow’s Eve.

So, although the day has become immensely popular in the USA, it began in Ireland/Scotland.

After our brief two days in Arco, ID, visiting the Nuclear museum and Craters of the Moon we were planning to head south. However, the weather had other ideas with temps in the 100s so we retraced our steps back towards Ketchum, ID to the Easley Campground in the Sawtooth Mountains.

This is a first come first served camp with just 10 sites (some of which are double sites). We enjoyed ten days relaxing and even had a visit from our friends Kimberly and Tracy, from Wonderers Chasing Horizons who came to the hot springs with us.

We actually enjoyed a couple of days at the hot springs; at only $10 each for the whole day it was a steal. We also took some walks and watched the beavers and muskrats in the Big Wood River.

The quaint town of Ketchum is close by. If you’re looking for an idyllic spot next summer, this is it.
