🇪🇺 Today we embark on a new journey exploring European researchers and their contributions to science and society. Our first European guest, Tina De Gendt, a public historian, curator, writer and journalist recently received the European Heritage Europa Nostra Award for the Square Kilometre Project coordinated and funded by Ghent City Museum and the Ghent Heritage Cell 🏅

🏙️ As a public historian, Tina is reshaping the way we perceive history by engaging directly with communities and involving them in the historical narrative. One of the key themes Tina discusses is the concept of "negotiating the past." This methodology goes beyond simply presenting multiple perspectives; it encourages active debate and discussion among community members. Her work in the Square Kilometre Project exemplifies this approach, as she collaborates with locals to uncover the rich tapestry of stories within Ghent's diverse neighbourhoods.

For those interested in how public history can transform our understanding of the past and present, Tina de Gendt's insights are invaluable. Her approach not only makes history accessible but also relevant to today's diverse urban landscapes. By listening to her story, we can all learn how to engage more deeply with history and, in turn, with each other.

🎧Tune in to the latest episode to explore these themes and more. Discover how public history can be a powerful tool for community engagement and social change. Let Tina's story inspire you to look at history through a new lens and to see the potential for connection and understanding in our shared past.

What if we gave an opportunity to talk about science to a group of students?

That’s exactly what the project Sounds of Science was about. In this FNR-funded (PSP-Classic) project we teamed up with Lycée Aline Mayrisch to help students to make podcasts about biology.

During the Project Week at school, the students visited the Musée de l’Homme in Paris where they got inspiration and information about one of the chosen subjects: brain development, feelings, neurological diseases and art. All in all, 5 podcasts were produced and in this special SciLux Original episode we present fragments of all of them.

This is really science communication at its best – as the project included both some theory as well as a lot of practice leading to becoming better creators of science content and most importantly better consumers of it.

We really couldn’t be prouder of the results – available in episode 21 on all major podcasting platforms.

We’d like to thank Carol Lunkes, the biology teacher who coordinated the project as well as Judith Reicherzer who helped out at various stages – including a great presentation about journalism! Last but not least, big thanks to Mattia Rheim, our technician, and our external reviewer.
