Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar was Indian playback singer. She was known as Nightingale of India, Voice of the Millennium and Queen of Melody.

She was born the daughter of Dinanath Mangeshkar, a reputed classical singer in his own right. He started giving Lata singing lessons from the age of five.

But because of fallen financial condition of the family, Lata Mangeshkar did not go to school but she used to study at home.

After her father died of a heart condition, movie company Navyug Chitrapat owner Vinayak Karnataki, a close friend of the Mangeshkars, helped Mangeshkar in her career.

Mangeshkar moved to Mumbai with Karnataki and began her training in Hindustani classical music from Ustad Aman Ali Khan of Bhindibazaar Gharana.

Mangeshkar was mentored by music director Ghulam Haider right after Karnataki's death.

She made her entry into Bollywood at the wrong time - around the 1940s, when bass singers with heavily nasal voices, such as Noor Jehan and Shamshad Begum were in style.

She was rejected from many projects because it was believed that her voice was too high-pitched and thin. She also got rejected by producer Sashadhar Mukherjee's 'Shaheed',

After the rejections she got mainstream with Ghulam Haider in the film Majboor, and then 1949 saw the release of four of her films: Mahal, Dulari, Barsaat, and Andaz; all four of them became runaway hits.

Her unusually high-pitched singing returned trend of heavily nasal voices of the day totally outdated and, within a year, she had changed the face of playback singing forever.

'Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo' in Mangeshkar's soulful voice brought tears to the eyes of every citizen and the then Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, during the Sino-Indian War.

She was the first Indian to perform at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

The Guinness Book of World Records listed her as the most-recorded artist in the world with not less than 30,000 solo, in 20 Indian languages between 1948 and 1987.

Lata Mangeshkar got the India's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna in 2001.
She also got Padma Bhushan, Dada Saheb Phalke & Padma Vibhushan.

Sindhutai Sapkal was an Indian social worker known for her work in raising orphaned children. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 2021 in Social Work category.

Sindhutai was an unwanted child by her family, she was nicknamed “Chindhi” which means a torn piece of cloth.

Though her father supported her and was keen on educating her, she could not continue her studies after fourth grade due to family responsibilities and early marriage.

She got married at the age of 10 to a 30-year old man. Her abusive husband beat her up and threw her out of the house when she was 20 and nine-months pregnant.

She gave birth to a baby girl in a cow shelter outside their house the same day and walked a few kilometres in that condition to her mother’s place, who refused to give shelter to her.

“I cut the umbilical cord with a sharp-edged stone lying nearby,” she recalls. The incident deeply affected her and she thought of committing su***de, but gave up that thought and started begging at railway platforms for food.

As she spent more time begging, she realized that there are many orphans and children abandoned by their parents.

Having faced the difficulties herself, she could feel their pain and she decided to adopt them. She started begging more earnestly in order to feed the many children that she had adopted.

Gradually she decided to adopt every child who came across as an orphan and, over a period of time, she emerged as the “mother of orphans”.

Till date she has adopted and nurtured over 1,400 orphans, helped them get an education, got them married and supported them to settle down in life.

To eliminate the feeling of partiality among children she even gave away her biological daughter to Shrimant Dagdu Sheth Halwai, Pune.

She was doesn't taken support from anyone. For her immense courage and compassion she has received over 500 awards. Whatever amount she received as awards, she used it to construct homes for her children.

She had six organizations operating under her name which work for various needs of orphans.

Dr. Prakash Amte son of famous & Magsaysay Awardee Baba Amte who worked tirelessly for the upliftment of leprosy patients in Chandrapur district, Maharashtra.

On the completion of his doctor’s degree, Dr Prakash Amte began studying for his MS. But, while on a picnic to Hemalkasa with his father, Dr Prakash Amte was horrified on seeing the state of the tribal people living in that region.

Dropping his studies for the MS degree, Dr Prakash Baba Amte decided to change their lives and moved to Hemalaksa along with his wife, Dr Mandakini Amte.

They built the foundations of the organization Lok Biradari Prakalp (LBP) that was started by Baba Amte.

Dr. Prakash along with 5-6 volunteers including cured leprosy patients from Anandwan built a hut under a tree. But initially none of the tribal people wanted to approach them.

The tribal community had no access to basic necessities, were unaware of clothing their bodies, never knew what medical care was and followed hunting as the sole means of sustenance.

In the initial days, the doctor duo began treating the tribes people in a makeshift hospital, taught the kids beneath a tree and helped to reduce the day-to-day problems.

The first patient they received was a malaria patient and was brought by a group of people who walked 25km and crossing 5 villages to reach the hut cm hospital.

The team somehow managed to diagnose and treated the patient.
On day 5. the patient was healthy enough to walk back 25km to his village. Like this, slowly slowly duo doctor gained the trust of tribal peoples and brought more patients to the hut.

The Lok Biradari Prakalp has now expanded to a multi-speciality hospital with modern equipment and a hostel school which has generated engineers, teachers, and doctors who want to contribute to the cause.

The school teaches over 400 tribal children. The patients are charged mere 10 rupees for healthcare and receive medicines, treatment, and food for free.

The duo doctor couple also created the ‘Animal Ark’ within their courtyard, providing a safe haven to deserted and injured animals. Amte’s Ark is now home to about 100 animals.

The Robin Hood Army (Robin Hood Army] ) is a volunteer based, zero-funds organization that works to get surplus food from restaurants and the community to serve less fortunate people.

How it was started?
One of the Co-founder Neel Ghose was living and working in Portugal where he came across a volunteer organization called Refood with a unique model — the team would collect excess food from restaurants and redistribute it to the less fortunate.

Then with the other co-founders Aarushi Batra and Anand Sinha and 2 people other, RHA army was started on the streets of Delhi, India in August 2014.

How it works?
RHA approaches the restaurants in particular areas, which will contribute to the homeless through volunteers who live in that selected area.
e.g, restaurants in the neighbourhood Green Park, will contribute to the homeless of the locality, through volunteers who live in Green Park.

Facts of Robin Hood Army]
In the project — where RHA teamed up with Robin Hood family in Pakistan to mobilize citizens on both sides of the border through the private sector and media house to serve 1 million hungry citizens on Independence Day (August 14-15, 2017).

RHA army's case study is now included for students of Harvard’s full-time MBA programme.

RHA is a zero funds organization. The Robin Hood Army has no revenue, employees, nor office space – if you want to help, all you need is your time.

RHA “Robins” are largely students and young working professionals – everyone does this in their free time.

RHA share experiences on social media. It uses Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp to grow.

The organisation does not accept monetary donations and only distributes the food or donations in kind that it receives from its restaurant partners and donors.

Abhiraj Rajadhyaksha and Niyati Mavinkurve, also known as Abhi&Niyu | Following Love 🇮🇳] are digital content creators who has 1.5 million+ followers on Instagram and YouTube.

Abhiraj Rajadhyaksha (Abhi) & Niyati Mavinkurve now Niyati Rajadhyaksha (Niyu) were born in Mumbai.

Abhiraj competed is studies in RD National College, Bandra, Advertising and Mass Media, he worked with famous brands like MTV, Lakshya Media, Submerge, HUL, Tata Motors, Kotak Bank etc.

Indian-American business executives - Mr Nadella, 54, and Mr Pichai, 49 - have been honoured for their contribution in the "trade and industry" category.

The Padma honours are given for exceptional service in different fields - art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service.

General Bipin Rawat, India's first Chief of Defence Staff who died along with his wife and 12 others, has been awarded Padma Vibhushan.

Vaccine makers Serum Institute of India's Cyrus Poonawalla and Bharat Biotech duo - Krishna Ella and Suchitra Ella - have been honoured with Padma Bhushan.

One hundred and seven personalities are on the list of Padma Shri awardees, including singer Sonu Nigam and Olympian gold-medallist Neeraj Chopra. Padma Sri is the fourth-highest civilian award.

A total of 128 personalities are on this year's list of Padma honours.

Bharat Vikas Group (BVG) started in 1997, is a successful integrated services company offering services like facilities management, housekeeping, gardening, and works with prestigious institutes and companies all across India.

Hanmant Gaikwad, Chairman & Managing Director, BVG India Limited was born in rural India (Satara) with a humble social background. He did several odd jobs like selling mangoes, taking up painting contracts, taking tuitions on the side with his friend. He also worked as an agent for a company that made jams and sauces. Like this, he was able to self-finance his B-Tech degree in Vishwakarma Institute of Technology.

While in college he formed Bharat Vikas Pratishthan, a non-profit, where he used to collect funds for underprivileged students. In 1997, while working with Tata Motors, he decided to provide a job opportunity platform for the youth from his village. With due support from his employers, Bharat Vikas Group was born.

Bharat Vikas trust got its first job with Tata Motors, where eight people got employment, for Rs 12,000 a month. Soon Tata Motors gave him contracts for housekeeping, gardening, and in the electrical and mechanical departments.

In the first year, 1997, he formed his company BVG India Limited and earned Rs 8 lakh in the first year and in second year it jumped to Rs 56 lakh. Then in 1999, Hanmant decided to quit his job in TELCO.

In 2003, BVG's turnover was touching Rs 4 crore. They got big contracts, such as mechanised cleaning of the Parliament, the Prime Minister's residence and then the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
