Kano emirate suspends village head accused of selling land to Fulani migrants

The village head of Butu-Butu in Rimingado local government area, Abdullahi Sa’adu has been suspended by Karaye Emirate in Kano State for allegedly selling a piece of land to Fulani migrants.



Spokesperson of the emirate, Haruna Gunduwawa in a statement released on Friday July 16, said the Fulani migrants built a mosque on the land without following due process. Gunduwawa said this has caused conflict with the host community.



Recounting how the district head of Rimingado, Auwalu Tukur (Magajin Rafin Karaye) had earlier sent a petition to the Emir of Karaye, Ibrahim Abubakar II, alleging wrongdoing by the village head, the emirate's spokesperson said Mr Sa’adu’s was suspended to pave way for a proper investigation by a committee set up to look into the allegations against him.



Habibu Umar (Madakin Shamaki) has been directed to oversee the affairs of the village pending the outcome of the investigation.



Residents of Butu-Butu have also been asked to remain calm and give Mr Umar maximum support and cooperation to discharge his duty effectively.

The federal government has suspended, indefinitely, the operations of the microblogging and social networking service, Twitter, in Nigeria.

The minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, announced the suspension in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, June 4. The minister citied the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria's corporate existence.

The suspension of Twitter was announced by the minister of information via a statement.

The University of Ibadan, longest-serving lecturer, Mr. Henry Nigel, had been reportedly pronounced dead by the department of classics of the varsity.
Mr. Henry Nigel was a lecturer in the department of Classics. News of his death was announced on Sunday in a statement released by the department.
It reads “With a deep sense of sorrow, the department of classics announces the passing of Mr. Nigel Henry which regrettable event occurred on the night of 30th January, 2021, at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.”
“Mr.Henry, our longest-serving academic staff, who spent over four decades nurturing students in the various sub-disciplines of classics, especially in Greek and Latin languages and literature, was an outstanding student of the highest order.”

Police officer narrates how his friend got carried away by love and got scammed by his girlfriend

A Nigerian police officer has given the narrative of how a friend of his who lost his job due to the COVID-19 pandemic, got carried away by love and got scammed by his girlfriend.

According to the officer, with Twitter handle, , his friend’s elder brother sent him 10 iPhone 11 Pro Max which he was asked to sell and start up a business with.

He shared that his friend’s girlfriend who insisted on taking one of the phones, also went on to scam him of the money he was supposed to invest in a business.

He tweeted,

A friend lost his job due to covid-19 pandemic. His elder brother that’s based in the UK sent him 10 iphone 11 Pro Max so he can sell & use the proceed to start a business to take care of himself. When the shipments landed, the lady handling the shipment was acting funny.
He called me to assist him get the package, I did & within few days, I collected the package. The very day I handed over the package to him at his house, I met his girlfriend with him. As we opened the package together, she collected 1 Gold iPhone 11 Pro Max Immediately.
I know the cost of the phone, the purpose of the phone & financial condition of my friend so, I told her to return the phone bcoz it has a purpose. I also told her that when things fall in place for my phone, she will use a much better phone than iPhone 11 Pro Max.
She hesitated and insisted she must use an iPhone 11 Pro Max. Funny thing is, this girl is using a Samsung S9 while my friend is using an Infinix Phone. The person that owns the phones isn’t carried away to use an iPhone but you the girlfriend is insisting on using one.
My friend was carried away by love so, he couldn’t say a word. I was the one fighting the battle as if I’m the owner of the phones. There was no name this girl didn’t call me in the presence of my friend. My friend did nothing but just look.
I gave up and she took the phone. I and my friend went to computer village to meet the man which we’ve told about the phones before it arrival. He inspected all phones and made payment as agreed immediately. Over N2.7m for the nine iPhones sold was paid to my friend account.
I don’t know if my friend was jazzed, stupid or carried away when the money hits his account. All I know is that he didn’t invest any of the money into any business. Weekly, he upload pics and video of him and his girlfriend at expensive restaurants, clubs and fast food.
Each time I caution him, he will tell me not to worry that he’s working on something. He claimed he had kept N2m for the business he want to invest in. This is a guy that’s owning me 150k which I loaned him during the pandemic. I forced him to pay me ASAP before story enter.
After he paid me my money, he stopped taking my calls and I also stopped calling. After over three months, he called me yesterday crying that his girlfriend had ruined his life. He said all the money had gone.
The business he wanted to invest in which was suggested by his…Was a scam and the girlfriend had run away. He’s begging I should assist him with my connection get Police officers to trace his girlfriend and the guy that scammed him get his money back. I hissed and cut the call. I hate stupid people.
This is common by most young guys, they allow little money and their girlfriend to control them. As a man, always make sure you’re not carried away with girls or money. If you’re in love, love with your head and stop being STUPID.
Let me add this; I didn’t get to listen to him fully when he called yesterday bcoz I was pi**ed & irritated. I don’t know the details of the business he’s talking abt if his GF was involved with the guy that scammed him When I’m calm, I’d visit him, get full details & assist him

The Nigeria Police Force is currently in search of the families of three children, two girls and a boy, stolen from their families since June 2019.



Frank Mba, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, told newsmen on Monday, June 29, that the three children were among six rescued by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in an operation that was launched following reported cases of child theft in the FCT.



He said three of the rescued children have been reunited with their parents but the other three, pictured above, are yet to be reunited as their families cannot be located.



“We were able to identify the parents of three of the six children and the police have reunited them with their families. Unfortunately until now we have not been able to locate the parents of these three children.” Mba said

Ondo State has recorded its first case of the deadly coronavirus

The state Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, disclosed this on his Twitter handle on Friday.

The PUNCH gathered that the victim is one of those already in the isolation center in the state.

He said, “We have just received confirmation of our first positive COVID-19 case this evening. The infected person is currently under isolation and would be monitored.

“We have activated all necessary protocol to locate all contacts and we’ve been working closely with NCDC.”

Similarly, a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Donald Ojogo, in Akure, the state capital, on Friday, also confirmed the development.

The statement read in part, “It is with great concern that the Ondo State Government announces the index case. A suspected case tested positive to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Mr Sanusi, an ex-central bank chief, has had frosty relations with Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje since 2017.
His supporters believe he was sacked for opposing Mr Ganduje's re-election last year.
Traditional leaders in Nigeria hold few constitutional powers but are able to exert significant influence as they are seen as custodians of both religion and tradition.

Mr Sanusi was seen as a reformist and had been critical of some government policies - a stance that frequently put him at loggerheads with ruling politicians, reports the BBC's Nigeria reporter Ishaq Khalid.
The emir has been removed from the palace in the city of Kano by security forces. It is not clear where he has been taken, but by tradition he will be expected to live in exile outside the emirate for the rest of his life, our reporter says.
Aminu Ado Bayero, the son of Mr Sanusi's predecessor who ruled Kano for more than half a century until his death in 2014, has been chosen as the new emir by the local authorities.
Why was he sacked?
The government said he was removed "in order to safeguard the sanctity, culture, tradition, religion and prestige of the Kano emirate", accusing the emir of "total disrespect" of institutions and the governor's office.

Since the emir and governor fell out, Mr Sanusi has not attended state functions and official meetings, which the government said amounted to "total insubordination".
The emir's refusal to appear before a panel investigating allegations of corruption against him also did not go down well with the government.
He is accused of selling property and mismanaging emirati funds but he secured a court order stopping the probe.
After last year's election, Mr Ganduje, who is a powerful figure within Nigeria's governing All Progressives Congress (APC) party, split the Kano emirate into five and appointed four more emirs - to weaken Mr Sanusi's influence.

KobeBryant killed in California helicopter crash

Legendary basketball player, Kobe Bryant, has died in a California helicopter crash on Sunday.

According to TMZ, the 41-year-old was among at least four people traveling in his private helicopter over Calabasas when a fire broke out, sending the chopper spiraling from the sky.

Trump wants to ban Nigerians from entering the United States through visa restrictions; and he could make the announcement next week.

United States President, Donald Trump, intends to add Nigeria to a list of countries for visa restrictions.

Seven countries are on Trump’s travel ban list, according to U.S media and agency reports. The countries are - Belarus, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Nigeria, Sudan and Tanzania.

Some countries will face bans only on some visa categories, the Wall Street Journal reports. The list of countries was not final and could yet change, Politico reports.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal from Davos, Trump said he is trying to add additional nations to the travel ban list, but declined to list the countries.

White House spokesman Hogan Gidley defended the impending order in a statement.

"The travel ban has been profoundly successful in protecting our country and raising the security baseline around the world," he said.

"While there are no new announcements at this time, common sense and national security both dictate that if a country wants to fully participate in U.S. immigration programs, they should also comply with all security and counter-terrorism measures — because we do not want to import terrorism or any other national security threat into the United States."

Politico adds in its report that Trump could make the announcement of countries on the travel ban list as early as Monday.

Five die, 39 vehicles razed, 150 people displaced in Lagos pipeline explosion

The number of deaths recorded in the pipeline explosion that rocked the Ekoro area of Abule-Egba, Lagos State, on Sunday, January 19, 2020, has increased to five.

The explosion was reportedly caused by the activities of vandals, who ruptured the pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in the area in a bid to steal fuel.

The explosion was said to have occurred during the operation around 8pm and sent shivers down the spines of residents who scampered for safety.

According to the Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, five fatalities involving three adult males, one female, and a five-year-old child were recorded.

He stated that no fewer than 20 people who sustained minor injuries were given on the spot treatment, adding that the fire incident had displaced over 150 people.

Oke-Osanyintolu said, “Five fatalities including three adult males, one adult female, and a five-year-old child were discovered. Also, 20 people were treated for minor injuries and discharged at the scene, while 150 people including children were displaced.

“The buildings affected are a storey building at No 18 Musa Erimo Street and four buildings, including a storey building and three bungalows on No 1, No 2, No 7 and No 20, Joel Nnadede Street, in Ekoro. Also, on Hamed Sodiq Street, a two-storey building on No 2 and two bungalows on No 4 and No 8 were affected, while on the NNPC power line road, three bungalows on No 45, No 47 and No 49 were razed.

“17 shops and 39 vehicles including 33 trucks, three cars and three tricycles were also affected. We will continue to keep members of the public abreast with updates.”

On January 9, Namdoo allegedly conspired with her boyfriend, Emmanuel Idu, and another man, Okpe David, to produce a video of herself, blindfolded and driven to a bush at area of .

In the video, a man was seen wearing a mask and holding a Jack knife, threatening to kill Namdoo. The two men sent two videos to the employer of the lady with a threat to kill her and to also go after the family of the employer if a ransom of N10 million was not paid.

Frightened by the threat and the follow up calls, the said employer, who was into Fleet business, reported the case to the police.

A well-coordinated operation was put in place which led to the successful rescue of the self-arranged victim of the abduction and the arrest of one of the two suspects, David.

David, who claims to be a military officer, said he provided the truck used in driving Namdoo to the bush. The three suspects all came from Benue State and have known each other for so many years. .

It is a criminal offence for anyone to fake his or her abduction. Under the Lagos State laws, the offender, upon conviction, is liable to 14 years imprisonment.

46-year-old American mom in Kano to marry 23-year-old Nigerian boy she met on Instagram.

An American woman, Jeanine Delsky, has arrived Panshekara, Kano, to marry her 23-year-old online boyfriend, Sulaiman Babayero Isa, DailyNigerian reports.

According to the news outlet, Ms Delsky, who lives in California, USA, landed at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano on Saturday and went straight to meet the parents of her lover.

The two lovers met on Instagram one year ago, exchanged pictures and started online courtship. In an interview, Ms Delsky said she decided to follow her boyfriend to Kano because of her love for him.

She said many people had courted her online but she found Mr Isa as the most loving and sincere.The mother of two said they both agreed to get married and fly to the US where they intend to settle.

Mr Isa, who has just finished secondary school, said that he is ready to follow his girlfriend to America to settle and build a family.

He said he was not bothered about the age gap, adding that “it’s even the Sunna of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, Peace be Upon Him, to marry a woman who is far older than you”.

He expressed optimism that Ms Delsky would one day accept Islam and become a Muslim. The wedding is expected to hold in March

Isa’s mother, Fatima Suleman, said she had no objection to her son’s relationship with American girlfriend, noting that she would pray for them to have a happy married life in America.
