Good Hope Trelawny- which was greatly impacted by the lockdown due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, has been reopened. It is one of the most popular attractions in the vicinity and was reopened on Friday, July 2nd, 2021.
Executive director of Chukka Caribbean Adventures, John Byles, explained that this move has returned 40 % of the workforce to Chukka, Trelawny.
‘As of today (Friday), we have 40 workers. When we are fully back up we will have 100. In Jamaica now we have 450 employees. So this is going to take us to roughly 500 now,’ Byles stated.
During the tour of the attraction, he outlined that the activities will transition from one to another, this will allow more time for activities and less wait time.
“So whereas before we had people going up to the top and coming back down now, ‘no’. You are in fun and you stay in fun,” Byles stated.
He plans to add cabanas, electric bikes, and a rum tour experience to the activities that already exist such as zip line, kayaking, tubing, and other activities. They have been working with Appleton to develop a whole rum tour experience.
The main market for Chukka tours is United States citizens. He attributes this to the vaccination programme that they have in place, which has boosted the demand more than what they were expecting.
Byles showed appreciation to business partners and affiliates; he inferred that the company was working assiduously during the lockdown.
“That’s when we got back to work. We kept in contact with all our customers, we let them know what was happening; we got involved in the industry and worked with the industry partners to help with the recovery. We didn’t sit down and say we are going to wait and see coming out of COVID,” the Chukka executive said.
