I hung and finished the macrame curtain panels in my studio last week! I'm enjoying having a clean and tidy facade to cover the creative chaos of my supply closet.

After organizing the studio last week I've found that it's much easier to create and come up with new ideas when the space is clear and I know what I have and where everything is stored. I have to do this every six months because of all the projects happening, the class supplies coming in and out and the slight shift in focus each season brings.

Summer tends to be my dyeing season because I can rely on being outside. I've been spending the past few weeks spending every spare minute to finish these macrames. Now it's time to pull out the dye pots and get some natural colors going!

I am getting into some warmer colors in my temperature blanket project. I am currently crocheting the month of June, so I'm a bit behind date-wise. Enjoying seeing the colors build and the blanket grow. It's getting heavy!

Pine needle basket made with ponderosa pine needles, raffia and beeswax. The center piece is a slice of maple wood with a great show of spalding through it. I started out intending to make a simple oval basket. As I went the piece took an alternate route and I started playing with the stitches and coil placement to create an undulating and varied shape.

While road tripping I went to Prarie Fiber Arts Center in Moorhead, Minnesota. I picked up some yarn from the sales table and came across the Cocoknits method book. I've read through it and can't wait to settle in with one of the projects this Fall.

Hills and Valleys. A pine needle basket study in undulation.

Ponderosa pine needles and raffia coiled basket. The center is a slice from a piece of maple wood. I experimented to see if the pine needles would absorb natural dyes. I treated them with a mordant and dyed some with cochineal. The results were somewhat underwhelming, but I did get a tint of color. I left the remaining pine needles the natural green and brown that they were when I collected them.

DM us for the link to my vlog sharing the creation process.

Granny square cardigan. Self drafted pattern. Made from recycled cotton and polyester yarn in terrecotta, seafoam and cream. I used Lion Brand's Re-up yarn. It has a lovely texture, but it split badly as I worked with it. I would use it again, but it can be a bit frustrating.

I love how this turned out. I did a lot of digging around to see other folks designs and combined the different elements I liked into this garment.

Foraged materials basket. I took a class with Chloe Hight a few months ago. This is the cute little basket I learned to make from daylily leaves, daffodil leaves, stripped willow bark, blackberry vines, and iris leaves.

There are so many materials in the garden and along the sides of the road that can be turned into useful pieces like this little basket. I already keep a look out for materials to make dye with, now I'm also on the lookout for basketry materials.

Always harvest responsibly if you go out to collect wild materials for your craft.

A nice fluffy pouf to add to the studio knitting and crochet nook. This is the result of a video tutorial I made for my channel. I used Ganxxet t-shirt yarn and a 12mm crochet hook. The pattern is self-drafted (you can find it on our website).

Stripey rag rug. Made with scrap yardage that's been sitting in my stash for about ten years. Its a good feeling seeing it being used finally.

This is the rug I made while doing a rag rug series on my channel. If your interest is piqued, or you have scrap fabric sitting around, consider making a rag rug.

We have a new rag rug weaving workshop on our website!

Dive into rag rug weaving by creating a simple frame loom, learn to prepare fabric and other materials, and practice a variety of weaving methods to create your own useful and personalized rag rugs.

I've been adding crochet content to my YouTube channel this year. I made these swatch samples in a crochet stitches tutorial video. A nice bonus is that I have these swatches hanging in the studio now and they've been a good source of reference for other projects, partly because of the stitch types and partially because I made them with Sugar n Cream cotton yarn. Crocheting with cotton has become a habit. My temperature blanket is cotton from Ganxxet, I made a granny square cardigan with recycled cotton and poly blend from Lions Brand and a few mini doll blankets for my nieces.

Meet Brittany (left), Cheri (middle) and Bailey (right). This is the Textile Indie team. We are a little basketry and fiber business online offering educational content and supplies. Brittany has already introduced herself (see last post).

Today meet Cheri and Bailey.

As our resident idea machine, Cheri constantly nudges us into uncharted territories. Naturally, this means she ‘breaks’ things – so out of necessity, she’s become our tech troubleshooter. Besides that, she oversees our editorial calendar and fosters connections with the fantastic brands we collaborate with.

She's also Mom, so while we call her CEO of Textile Indie she's been playing this role for alot longer.

Meet Bailey – she’s always organizing something in the workshop. She creates and packs your kits and orders and makes sure we show up for social media. Her natural tenacity helps us to complete what we start.

So from the Textile Indie team to you, thank you for your support! We love getting to do this work and bring you education and supplies in basketry, natural dyeing, spinning, knitting, wet felting and whatever other fiber craft we can share.
