BY DANIEL NZIA SENIOR WRITER
Machakos leaders have asked drivers to be more cautious on the roads especially during this festive season.
The call was made by Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi and Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule at the ABC church in Machakos town where they attended a church service.
Mwangangi regretted that accidents have increased in the recent passed in which a number of people have lost lives and others maimed.
The DG asked the police to be more vigilant with a view to reducing road carnage.
"I want to appeal to the security agencies not to allow drunk drivers on the roads. In fact those found drunk should be locked up and released after sobbering up",said the DG.
Mwangangi regretted that a young businessman from his village lost his life early today along the Machakos- Nairobi road.
The deceased Felix Mutual died instantly after his car rammed into a track about two kilometers from Kyumbi town. Mwangangi said the victim was returning to Nairobi from a burial in kola when the accident occurred.
An eye witness said the late Mutua had stopped at a petrol station in Kyumbi for about 20 minutes before he started off his journey.
MP Mule appealed to motorists to excercise caution saying they should be careful in their driving to avoid accidents.
The two leaders who were accompanied by nominated MCA Dee Kivuva asked parents to take great care of their children during these end of year festivities.
"Where will you get another Canon where you don't take of your children ",posed Mwangangi.

UPDATE:
MACHAKOS UNIVERSITY CLOSED OVER INSECURITY, RIOTS
By Daniel Nzia Senior Writer
Machakos university has been closed indefinitely following students riots over state of insecurity around the institution.
A letter signed by the university Vice Chancellor Prof Lucy W Irungu, the students were asked to vacate the university premises with immediate effect adding further communication will be made in due course.
"Due to the evolving insecurity situation around the university and the ongoing student's demonstrations,a special meeting convened on December 7,2022 resolved that in the interest of the security of staff and students the university be closed with immediate effect ",read the VC's letter.
Before the closure the students had engaged police in running battles in which a prison officer was attacked and seriously injured by the rioters students.
The Machakos GK Prison based officer was cornered near baby care institution and was rushed to the Machakos Level 5 hospital where he was admitted in a critical condition.
The anti riot police team battling the rioting students was led by Machakos OCPD Moss Ndiwa who was forced to ask for reinforcement from the Machakos GK Prison.
The Machakos -Wote road section between the university gate and Katoloni market was a no go zone as the students engaged police in a cat and mouse game for a couple of hours.
Traders in the area and parts of Machakos town hurriedly closed down their businesses for fear of looting by the rioting students.
Today's riots were apparently triggered by the death of a second year student who was shot by the police on Monday during similar skirmishes early today.
OCPD Ndiwa had confirmed the death of the student,Brilliant Anusu who was short in the stomach with the bullet exiting from the back.
His death apparently angered his colleagues who accused the police of doing little to address the insecurity situation in which a number of students have been mugged and robbed by gangsters.
