BY CORNELIUS KIMBUI EDITOR
Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has urged the electorate to embrace public participation forums.
He noted that it was the Constitutional right for every Kenyan to participate in public engagement forums to ensure that their voice is heard.
Mwangangi revealed that this was only possible if all residents attended and contributed during public participation forums.
He said the forums will start today in Masinga and Yatta sub-counties

Speaking during an interview at Mbaitu FM,Mwangangi said from today the County Government of Machakos is enhancing citizen participation in decision making in public forums.
He said public participation is about actions a person or group can take to get involved in issues of government or community that are of concern to them.
“It ensures that citizens are heard and can actively participate in decision that impact their needs” he said
Mwangangi said they are set to initiate development projects that will put money into the pockets of all people including those in remote areas of the county.
He said they will embark on projects that will not only socially benefit residents but boost them economically.
Mwangangi said when youths participate in governance it promotes a positive outcome to their locality.
“Youths have a potential to solve challenges facing society, therefore I urge you to kindly rise up. Development of youth leadership is critical to building civic capacity and long-time community sustainability,” he stated.
He noted that the overall role of youth participation in governance is to bring their voice to community issues thus developing confident, independent and motivated youth leaders in a given society.
“Youth can only be empowered through direct participation in governance. When youths develop useful skills and build self -confidence, we establish capable and effective leaders for the next generation,”the DG said
The DG said their administration is committed to the task ahead and their leadership will spearhead establishment of proper systems and structures that will deliver services to residents.
He said: “We must make sure that we deliver development that our people can feel and touch. This is our mandate and I promise to support our governor fully on that course.”
Mwangangi thanked God for the People of Machakos who accepted their candidature and elected them
He praised Governor Wavinya Ndeti and vowed support her throughout their tenure.
“As your DG, I will help you achieve your manifesto. I know the passion of the Governor specifically targeting women,” said Mwangangi
Recently governor Wavinya pledged to embark on projects that will not only socially benefit residents but boost them economically.
Yesterday, the DG represented Governor Wavinya Ndeti in a Council of Governors meeting with Development Partners at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi.
Mwangangi says development partners continue to play a key role in the socio-economic development of the Counties through project planning, capacity building, resource mobilization and financing.
The areas of engagement included Agriculture and blue economy,Public Sector and Governance, Civil Society Engagement, Health, Water, Environment and Climate Change, Disaster Management and Social Protection.
"It is for this reason Machakos and other County governments are committed in strengthening partnerships with these fundamental drivers of our country's future for maximum benefits" he said
Youth leader Felix Mambo said democracy and good governance principles of transparency and accountability are enhanced when the public is informed and can effectively participate in decisions that affect them.
“This enhances legitimacy and builds mutual trust and commitment between duty bearers and citizens” he said
