PTI Chairman Imran Khan is set to lead the long march on Islamabad from today (Friday) to “free the nation in a true sense”.

The long march will start from Lahore’s Liberty Chowk at 11 am and after passing through the Ferozepur Road, Icchra, Azadi Chowk, Mozang, Data Darbar side, it will move towards Muridke.

The march is expected to enter Islamabad on November 4 after passing through Kamonki, Gujranwala, Daska, Sumbrial, Lala Musa, Khariyan, Gujjar Khan and Rawalpindi. Imran along with his supporters is expected to stage a sit-in in the federal capital against the Shehbaz-led coalition government after the end of the long march.

This will be the PTI chief second march towards Islamabad after he was ousted via a no-confidence motion earlier this year.

Asif, Fareed fined for fiery on-field spat in Asia Cup thriller
Asif Ali and Fareed Ahmad have been fined 25% of their match fees
DUBAI: Pakistan's Asif Ali and Fareed Ahmad of Afghanistan have been fined 25% of their match fees for a heated exchange in their thrilling Asia Cup match in Sharjah.

The Afghans suffered a heartbreaking one-wicket loss to Pakistan on Wednesday to crash out of the Twenty20 tournament along with heavyweights India.
The incident occurred in the 19th over of Pakistan's innings.

Tempers flared when fast bowler Fareed dismissed Asif and "made inappropriate physical contact" with the batsman, who "reacted with an aggressive gesture of the bat", the International Cricket Council said.

One demerit point each has been added to the disciplinary records of the players, both of whom did not have any previous offence in a 24-month period.

Will be more dangerous if jailed: Imran
Imran expresses displeasure over the heavy deployment of police and other law enforcement agencies at the court
PTI chief and former prime minister Imran Khan Thursday threatened he would become more dangerous if sent to jail.
Imran arrived at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) amid tight security. Hundreds of security personnel had been deployed at the court since noon.

Before Imran left his Banigala residence, several PTI leaders arrived at the court, but security officials stopped Fawad Chaudhry, Shehzad Waseem and others as their names were not found on the list provided by the Registrar’s Office.

Speaking to reporters, Imran expressed displeasure over the heavy deployment of police and other law enforcement agencies at the court, saying it showed as if Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav was going to appear before the court, says a news report.

Imran wondered who the authorities feared, as they had deployed a heavy contingent of police outside the IHC. He refused to speak more, saying his comments might be misconstrued by the court. He told the reporters he will speak to them after attending the hearing.

Talking to the media persons after the court decided to indict him in the contempt of court case, Imran told reporters that he wanted to contextualise his statement in the court regarding the woman judge but was not given the opportunity to do so.

“Every statement has a context. The country is regressing day by day, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) report has showed it. They can do whatever they want, but the only solution to the instability is fresh elections,” he added.

Imran said he did not victimise any of his opponents in his tenure adding there were some cases that were mishandled, but he came to know about them afterwards. The PTI chief rejected speculations about backdoor contacts with some ‘important’ figures.

Asked if he had met an important official who was also in touch with PMLN leader Nawaz Sharif, Imran said nothing of the sorts had happened. Security officials installed barbed wires and barred people without passes from entering the court premises. Those who had to appear before the court in different cases were allowed in only after undergoing strict checking. Two senior superintendents of police (SSPs) were among 778 police personnel deployed at the court, which was also being monitored by the Safe City cameras.

Revised estimates put flood losses at around $18bn
The per capita income is projected to slow down in the wake of the reduced GDP growth
The rapid assessment cost on projected economic losses following floods as calculated by the Centre and endorsed by the provinces has gone up further to the tune of $17-$18 billion.
economic losses have further increased mainly because agricultural crops have been destroyed in 8.25 million acres as compared to initial assessment of 4.2 million acres. Cotton, rice, and minor crops have been damaged severely and if dewatering is not done properly, it can cause serious problems for wheat sowing.

Cotton crop has evaporated in most parts of the country and now wheat sowing is under threat.

The Ministry of National Food Security has been assigned to come up with a summary to increase the minimum support price of wheat for the coming crop. The authorities have held meetings with international donors and assured them that Pakistan would place an effective monitoring and evaluation system to utilise each and every penny to mitigate the flood losses in a transparent manner.

“The UN secretary-general is due Friday (today) for a three-day visit and Islamabad is going to share the rapid assessment cost with him. The international donors under the supervision of the World Bank are making their separate study on Damage and Need Assessment and then these figures will be reconciled,” official sources told The News Thursday.

The Ministry of Planning is undertaking an exercise to slash down the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) by Rs250 to Rs300 billion to bring it down from Rs800 billion to Rs500 to Rs550 billion for the current fiscal year. These resources will be diverted towards the flood-affected areas.

When contacted, Minister of State for Finance Aisha Ghaus Pasha and inquired about the latest rapid assessment cost, she refused to share the exact information and said that the cost had escalated and efforts were underway to finalise it by giving a cut-off date.

Under the rapid assessment exercise, the government had initially envisaged the cost of economic losses to the tune of $10 to $12.5 billion but the revised estimates suggested that the accumulated cost of economic losses had escalated up to $17 to $18 billion.

The per capita income is projected to slow down in the wake of the reduced GDP growth. The government had envisaged a GDP growth rate of 5 percent for the current fiscal year. The IMF had recently projected that the GDP growth would be standing at 3.5 percent for the current fiscal year. However, the floods damaged the agriculture sector and the industrial sector also gave an indication of slowing down, so the GDP growth might be below two percent.

End of an era as Queen Elizabeth II dies
Buckingham Palace announced her death in a short statement, triggering 10 days of national mourning...
BALLATER, United Kingdom: Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in British history and an icon instantly recognisable to billions of people around the world, died on Thursday. She was 96.
Buckingham Palace announced her death in a short statement, triggering 10 days of national mourning and an outpouring of tributes to her long life and record-breaking reign.

“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” said the statement issued at 6:30 pm (1730 GMT).“The King (Charles) and The Queen Consort (Camilla) will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

The eldest of her four children, Charles, Prince of Wales, who at 73 is the oldest heir apparent in British history, becomes king immediately.Royal officials confirmed he will be known as King Charles III, the first king of that name to sit on the throne since 1685.

From the steps of 10 Downing Street, Prime Minister Liz Truss mourned “the passing of the second Elizabethan age” nearly 500 years after the first and concluded: “God save the king.”

Charles himself called his mother’s death “a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family”.

“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother,” he added in a statement signed “His Majesty the King”.

“I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth and by countless people around the world.”

The queen’s death came after the palace announced earlier on Thursday that doctors were “concerned” for her health and recommended she stay under medical supervision.

All her children — Charles, Princess Anne, 72, Prince Andrew, 62, and Prince Edward, 58, flocked to her Scottish Highland retreat, Balmoral.

They were joined by Charles’s elder son, Prince William, and William’s estranged brother Prince Harry.

Just two days earlier, the queen performed one of her core ceremonial functions as head of state, appointing Truss as the 15th prime minister of her reign, which started with Winston Churchill in Downing Street.

She was seen smiling in photographs but looking frail and using a walking stick.

One photograph of the meeting with Truss sparked alarm, showing a deep purple bruise on the monarch’s right hand.
Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne aged just 25 in 1952 in the exhausted aftermath of World War II, joining a world stage dominated by political figures from China’s Mao Zedong to Soviet leader Joseph Stalin and US president Harry S. Truman. Her 70-year reign straddled two centuries of seismic social, political and technological upheaval.

The last vestiges of Britain’s vast empire crumbled. At home, Brexit shook the foundations of her kingdom, and her family endured a series of scandals.

But throughout, she remained consistently popular and was queen and head of state not just of the United Kingdom but 14 former British colonies, including Australia and Canada. New Zealand proclaimed Charles its new king.

She was also head of the 56-nation Commonwealth, which takes in a quarter of humanity, and supreme governor of the Church of England, the mother church of the worldwide Anglican communion.

News Desk adds: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday expressed grief over the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, saying the country shares the grief and sorrow with thwe family, people and government of the UK. PM Shehbaz took to his social media handle, saying: Deeply grieved at the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Pakistan joins the UK & other Commonwealth nations in mourning her death.
