Zairean Bonghat '๐Œ๐š๐ฑ ๐’๐ข๐ง๐š๐ญ๐ซ๐š' ๐“๐ฌ๐ก๐ž๐ค๐š๐›๐ฎ (a.k.a. ๐’๐š๐š๐ค ๐’๐š๐š๐ค๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ) worked for a time in ๐—ฉ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—๐—ฎ๐˜‡๐˜‡ until opportunity called at ๐—ฉ๐—ฒฬ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒฬ.

So while at ๐—ฉ๐—ฒฬ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒฬ it came a time these trio were in suspension for what ๐•๐ž๐ซ๐œ๐ค๐ฒ๐ฌ called indiscipline. But in reality the trio were dismissed for financial reasons according to ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐ข๐จ.
Contractually, Verckys was entitled to half of the author's rights for his compositions. Under that arrangement Mario didn't have sufficient means to live like everyone and therefore to ease the hardship him with his two Companions (Saak Saakoul & Djeskain) wanted to record some of their songs elsewhere in order to receive their full rights but still remain a part of ๐—ข๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—ต. ๐—ฉ๐—ฒฬ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒฬ.
Verckys conditions for such an arrangement were so stringent that the parties came to no agreement. It turned out, however, that the trio had made some unauthorized recordings anyhow. When they refused to hand over the tapes to Verckys, he fired them.

The trio's surreptitious records came on the market in late July and immediately climbed the charts. By first week of August they claimed four of the top ten positions, including number one and two. They called their backing band and their record label ๐™Ž๐™ค๐™จ๐™ค๐™ก๐™ž๐™จ๐™ค (Soso- Chicken & Liso - Eye) after one of Mario's compositions that had been a hit for ๐—ข๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—ต. ๐—ฉ๐—ฒฬ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒฬ. The name literally 'Chicken eyes' signified Resistance, Tenacity and determination. By joining their stage names, ๐Œ๐šrio, ๐ƒ๐ฃ๐žskain and ๐’๐ขnatra, the three singers became known as the ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ผ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ท๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ถ.

Josky Kiambukuta Londa was born on February 14 1949. He started his singing career in 1969 with the band Africa Fiesta Sukisa which at the time was led by legendary Congolese guitarist โ€œDocteurโ€ Nico Kasanda and his brother Dechaud Mwamba.

In 1971, he along with several members of Fiesta Sukisa left the band and struck out on their own. Among those who left were Josky, Bopol Mansiamina, Serpent Kabamba, Blaise Pasco Mayanda and Sita Malukisa. They formed the band known as Orchestre Continental. They were later joined by Wuta Mayi. While there Josky released one of the most popular hits at the time, Tchebo.

In 1973, Franco was amassing an arsenal of musical talent for his band TP OK Jazz which was slowly becoming the most popular band in Zaire. It was against this backdrop that he recruited Josky who then joined an OK Jazz frontline that already had Sam Mangwana, Youlou Mabiala, Boyibanda and Lola Checain. Josky left continental along with Wuta Mayi. It was said that back then, Franco often recruited musicians from emerging bands that he thought would be a threat to TP OK Jazz. He soon released his first composition, a song known as Monzo.

Throughout the late 1970s, Josky was always amongst the lead vocalists of TP OK Jazz. But his defining moment came in 1980. That was when he composed the song โ€œPropetaireโ€œ. It is one of the most memorable songs ever produced. The song which was popularly referred to as โ€œSambwa Sambwaโ€ by fans was and still is a huge hit. At parties everywhere the song would send fans storming to the dance floor not to ,mention singing along. It was catchy and had a very danceable beat. The song is about a woman whose love has been scorned by a love interest. The oft repeated phrase โ€œNasambwe Oh ngai mwasi kitoko boyeโ€ translates to โ€œI am shocked at jis rejection because I am so beautifulโ€.

But Josky was not done yet. The following year he composed yet another hit, Bimansha. When TP OK Jazz toured Coteโ€™ D Ivoire that year, the song took the Ivorian public by storm. The song is about a person whose love has left him and he cannot understand why. Then came the hit Tokabola Sentiment popularly known to fans as Kizungu Zungu in which Josky describes being dizzy because of the problems of love. Indeed many of Joskyโ€™s songs during that period dealt with the problems of love. Ironic for someone whose birthday happened to be Valentines day.

1983 was a memorable year for TP OK Jazz but also for Josky. That year TP OK Jazz released an album exclusively featuring songs by Josky. The album was labelled โ€œFranco Presente Josky Kiambukutaโ€. It contained the hit songs : Alita, Massini, Mehida and Limbisa Ngai.

That same year, Josky was key performer in the Choc Choc Choc sessions in Paris that brought together musicians from rival bands Africa and TP OK Jazz including the band leaders Tabu Ley and Franco. Along with Afrisa members Tabu Ley and Kuleta PonPon, he performed lead vocals in the song Omona Wapi. It was then that he composed one of his most memorable hits, Missile, where he showcased his superb vocal range, holding a note at soprano and also providing bass vocals.

He also recorded an album outside the TP OK Jazz system. In collaboration with a youthful up and coming musician, Koffi Olomide, he recorded the album โ€œNgoundaโ€ which also featured Papa Wemba.

The following year 1984, contributed the song KSK to the hit album โ€œLโ€™Ancienne Belgiqueโ€. The following year he composed the song โ€œLikambo na Moto teโ€ which was part of the highly succesful Mario album.

In 1986, Josky decided to strike out on his own yet again. This time he teamed up with another TP OK Jazz member Ntesa Dalienst and Serge Kiambukuta. Some of his memorable songs came during this period. There was the memorable ballad โ€œAyez Pitieโ€ and the up tempo song โ€œLe Monde et es problemsโ€ . Another memorable song from that period was Likingo Li Mboka which was sung in a language very similar to lingala (possibly the Bobangi language) . Other songs from Joskyโ€™s rebel period were Medecin de Nuit.

When Franco and TP OK Jazz toured Kenya in 1986, he quickly realized how important Josky was to the band as fans repeatedly demanded songs by Josky.

Franco finally managed to convince the prodigal son Josky to return In 1987. So when Franco came back to Kenya to perform at the 4th All Africa games concert, Josky was back on the TP OK Jazz frontline much to the relief of Kenyan fans. Josky celebrated his return with yet another album labelled โ€œFranco Presente Josky Kiambukutaโ€, featuring 3 songs by Josky. The three were Mata Kita Bloque, Minzata and a remake of his early 80s hit (Tokabola Sentiment ) now know as Osilisi Ngai Mayeleโ€ which also featured sublime vocals from Malage De Lugendo.

When Franco passed away in 1989, Josky, Simaro, Ndombe, Madilu and other stalwarts continued to sing as TP OK Jazz. In 1990, he released yet another one of his most memorable hits. The song โ€œChandra was yet another one produced in the typical โ€œKiambukuta styleโ€ that created a manic excitement in dance halls all over Africa. He soon followed with other hits like Maby, Baby and Serre Serre.

Following the fallout with Francoโ€™s family, the key figures in TP OK Jazz minus Madilu struck out to form their own band which they called Bana OK. His greatest hit with Bana OK was Dernier Avertisssement (Last warning) which was released in 1999.

By the new millenium, Bana OK members had started to pursue solo projects. Josky left for France from where he released two albums, Oui Ca Va in 2001 and Double vie in 2005. He continued to perform at live concerts with Bana OK Members and other bands even occasionally appearing with Zaiko Langa Langa.

Josky returned to Kinshasa in 2011. By this time his singing career was finished largely due to medicalc issues. This included a foot problem that left him wheelchair bound during the latter years of his life. He was often seen on Television discussing his prolific music career. Soon

Josky passed away at Ngaliema clinic after protracted illness on March 7 2021. He leaves a rich legacy as one of the most prolific composers in the history of African music. Very few musicians have composed so many excellent songs.

BIRTH OF TABU LEY

Son of Joseph Tabu who worked in 1935 at Otraco (Colonial Transport Office) and Colette Gokuni, Tabu Ley was born in a small village of his parents in Sinamuey, territory of Bagata, in the Bandundu region, today , Kwilu province.
He was born Pascal Emmanuel on November 13, 1940, but during the formalities related to his birth at the civil status service in Bagata, the colonial officer who established the child's birth certificate, registered it under the name of Pascal Emanuel Sinamuey (his place of birth), still in confusion, he makes another mistake on the information appearing on the registers and the birth certificate, he registers the Bagata territory, as his place of birth.
This is how he will not bear his father's name until 1959, when he will find the use of his real name, the name of his father Tabu. He will not end with the borrowed names: Rochereau, Ley, Lord, Kassongo etc...
Where does the name Rochereau come from?
He was a brilliant student, he was baptized "Rochereau", during an interrogation, he alone remembered the name of this hero of the Franco-German war of 1870. It was a very difficult question. about history .
Aristide Denfert-Rochereau, was a senior French officer and deputy.
He is famous for leading the defense of Belfort during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.
It was under this nickname that he would become one of the two biggest stars of Congolese rumba, along with Luambo Makiadi Franco, who died before him on October 12, 1989, in Belgium.
A Victim in July 2008, of a stroke, Lord Rochereau Tabu Ley will never recover from this stroke.
Icon of Congolese and African music, Tabu Ley died on November 30, 2013 in Brussels, at the age of 73. He was the first African artist to perform at the Olympia.

Thi virtuoso ๐ต๐‘Ž๐‘ ๐‘  ๐บ๐‘ข๐‘–๐‘ก๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘–๐‘ ๐‘ก whose full name is ๐Œ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐๐ข ๐™๐ข ๐Š๐ข๐ฌ๐š๐ฅ๐š ๐๐ข๐ญ ๐ƒ๐ž๐œ๐œ๐š, was born in Kinshasa on September 1, 1941.
Deca Mpudi is mostly known as the man who served as the primary bass guitarist for TPOK Jazz for almost 20 years. For ardent rumba fans, they also remember him as the man who played the woman's voice in the song ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™ข๐™ค๐™ช. But he was also a good composer of songs and occasionally displayed his vocal skills to the songs he composed.
His music career started in in 1960 with a band called ๐™Š๐™ง๐™˜๐™๐™š๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™ง๐™š ๐™‘๐™š๐™™๐™š๐™ฉ๐™ฉ๐™š ๐™…๐™–๐™ฏ๐™ฏ which was led by "๐•๐ข๐ž๐ฎ๐ฑ" ๐๐š๐ ๐ฎ๐ž๐ญ๐ญ๐ž. With this group he toured Zimbabwe and South Africa for a long time, until 1970.

In 1970, he joined the ๐—ง๐—ฃ ๐—ข๐—ž ๐—๐—”๐—ญ๐—ญ. He was recruited along with another bassist ๐€๐ฅ๐ฉ๐ก๐จ๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐„๐ฉ๐š๐ฒ๐จ. Decca took over the ๐‘ฉ๐’‚๐’”๐’” ๐‘ฎ๐’–๐’Š๐’•๐’‚๐’“๐’Š๐’”๐’• role from ๐‚๐ž๐ฅ๐ข ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ฎ whom Franco had dismissed from OK Jazz for recording an album outside OK Jazz. From that point on he cemented his place as the bands pre-eminent bassist. Though there were other bassists in the band like ๐…๐ฅ๐š๐ฏ๐ข๐ž๐ง ๐Œ๐š๐ค๐š๐›๐ข.

He is credited with bringing new life and color to modern rumba; for having "revolutionized the Odemba style". This is how he was nicknamed ๐™บ๐š’๐š•๐š˜ ๐šˆ๐šŠ ๐™บ๐š’๐š—๐šœ๐š‘๐šŠ๐šœ๐šŠ.

In 1974 he composed a song called ๐˜ฝ๐™–๐™ก๐™š๐™ฃ๐™œ๐™š. A love song in which a man expresses love for a woman (Balenge) and promises to continue loving her despite all the problems in their relationship and despite the fact that many people are opposed to their relationship.

However amid superb interplay between the string section and the horn section. And as expected, Decca provides a virtuoso performace. The song was later released under a different name ๐Œ๐š๐ฅ๐จ๐ฎ ๐จ ๐๐ข๐ฃ๐จ๐ฎ featuring the sound effects of a live crowd. The refrain goes:

๐˜ฝ๐™š๐™ก๐™ก๐™š ๐™ข๐™šฬ๐™ง๐™š was the first song that Decca's vocal skills were displayed on which he composed. Interestingly the song is sung mostly in French.
And it is not in the classic TPOK Jazz style of Rumba Odemba. The style is closer to a Latin American style. Belle Mere in this case refers to a mother in-law. It is a song in which a person implores the spouse to respect the mother in-law who happens to be the mother of the subject.

In 1983 Franco released the classic hit ๐™๐™ช ๐™‘๐™ค๐™ž๐™จ which later became popularly known as ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™ข๐™ค๐™ช. It was a song about a woman who lives in Europe while her husband is presumably in Kinshasa. The Husband calls twice a day to talk to his unfaithful wife. Decca sung the part of the woman, amazingly in woman's voice, showing another of his talents. The hilarity of the subject matter as well as Decca's comical voice offen left audiences in stitches.

Still Decca's way of thundering electric bass is most prominent in the classic hit ๐™†๐™ž๐™ข๐™ฅ๐™– ๐™†๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™จ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™œ๐™–๐™ข๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ž composed by Franco makes him unforgettable. It is a song in which Franco tells his mother that the witchdoctors who killed her son (๐๐š๐ฏ๐จ๐ง ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐ข๐ž) are also plotting to kill his other son (Franco). Decca's bass guitar drives the rhythm and lends an air of ominousness to the song. The song is sung in the Kintandu language which is the mother tongue of Franco's mother and also Decca's mother tongue. Kintandu is among the many languages in the Kikongo dialect continuum.

Decca then added his own composition to the next TPOK Jazz album. The name of the album was ๐™‡'๐˜ผ๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™ž๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ฃ๐™š ๐˜ฝ๐™š๐™ก๐™œ๐™ž๐™ฆ๐™ช๐™š which featured the popular hit ๐™‹๐™š๐™จ๐™– ๐™‹๐™ค๐™จ๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ. Decca's song was on Face B and was called ๐™‰๐™™๐™–๐™ฎ๐™–. The opening verse which prominently features the voice of Ntesa Dalienst is sung in Lingala. While the second verse is sung in Kintandu. Decca was featured on the album cover along with other guitarists: ๐†๐ž๐ ๐ž ๐Œ๐š๐ง๐ ๐š๐ฒ๐š, ๐†๐ž๐ซ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ƒ๐ข๐š๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐š๐ง๐š and ๐…๐ซ๐š๐ง๐œ๐จ.

In 1989, after the death of Franco, TPOK Jazz lived on for five more years under the leadership of ๐‹๐ž ๐๐จ๐ž๐ญ๐ญ๐ž ๐’๐ข๐ฆ๐š๐ซ๐จ ๐Œ๐š๐ฌ๐ข๐ฒ๐š ๐‹๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐›๐š. Decca was still the primary bass guitarist of the band. During this period he composed a song called "๐™๐™ค๐™ก๐™ ๐™ก๐™ค๐™ง๐™š ๐˜ฝ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™๐™ช - ๐™‰๐™– ๐™†๐™ž๐™จ๐™ค๐™ ๐™–". The song was released as part of the album "๐™ƒ๐™š๐™ง๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™–๐™œ๐™š ๐™™๐™š ๐™๐™ง๐™–๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™ค". Decca himself provided vocals.

In 1994, TPOK Jazz folded following a disagreement between band members and the members of Franco's family. As a result, a new band called ๐—•๐—”๐—ก๐—” ๐—ข๐—ž was formed. The band was led by ๐‹๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐›๐š ๐’๐ข๐ฆ๐š๐ซ๐จ with the help of ๐‰๐จ๐ฌ๐ค๐ฒ ๐Š๐ข๐š๐ฆ๐›๐ฎ๐ค๐ฎ๐ญ๐š and ๐๐๐จ๐ฆ๐›๐ž ๐Ž๐ฉ๐ž๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฆ. Decca also joined Bana OK in his customary role as bass guitarist. He remained in Bana OK until 1998.

Then it was 1998 during the European tour when some musicians revolted against the leaders of Bana OK. They formed a new group based in Belgium under the leadership of Decca. The new group was called ๐—ข.๐—ž. ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ž๐—ถ๐—น๐—ผ ๐—ฌ๐—ฎ ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ป. The musicians who joined this new band included ๐‹๐จ๐ค๐จ๐ฆ๐›๐ž ๐๐ญ๐š๐ฅ, ๐‹๐ฎ๐ค๐จ๐ค๐ข ๐ƒ๐ข๐š๐ญ๐ก๐จ, ๐ˆ๐›๐ฅ๐จ ๐’๐š๐ฑ, ๐…๐š๐ฒ๐ข๐ฅ๐š and ๐“๐ฌ๐ก๐ž๐ฉ๐ž. They were joined by some former musicians of TPOK JAZZ who were living in Brussels including ๐“๐ก๐ข๐ž๐ซ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐Œ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐ฎ๐ข๐ค๐š, ๐Œ๐š๐ฅ๐š๐ ๐ž ๐๐ž ๐‹๐ฎ๐ ๐ž๐ง๐๐จ, and other artists from elsewhere such as ๐‰.๐ ๐๐š๐ค๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฎ, ๐ƒ๐จ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ฒ, ๐•๐ž๐๐จ and ๐Ž๐ง๐ฒ๐š ๐€๐ฆ๐ข๐ฌ๐ข.

๐—ข๐—ž ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น had two albums to their credit: "๐™Ž๐™–๐™ฉ๐™–๐™ฃ" and " 20 ๐™š๐™ข๐™š ๐™Ž๐™ž๐™š๐™˜๐™ก๐™š ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™ ๐™–๐™ข๐™—๐™ค". The band played in all kinds of events, including festivals, and private events: weddings, baptisms and more.

On July the 4th of 2006 ๐ƒ๐ž๐œ๐œ๐š kicked off the bucket in Brussels. Following Decca's death, OK International orchestra was now led by a board of directors with Lokombe Ntal as leader of the board, Diatho Lukoki, production manager, Iblo Sax for public relations and coordination, Thierry for programs and Fayila for Social.
