Writer C. Raymond Beran on friendship:

"What is a friend? I will tell you.

It is a person with whom you dare to be yourself. Your soul can be naked with him. He seems to ask of you to put on nothing, only to be what you are. He does not want you to be better, or worse. When you are with him, you feel as a prisoner feels who has been declared innocent. You do not have to be on your guard. You can say what you think, so long as it is genuinely you. He understands those contradictions in your nature that lead others to misjudge you.

With him you breathe freely. You can avow your little vanities and envies and hates and vicious sparks, your meannesses and absurdities and, in opening them up to him, they are lost, dissolved on the white ocean of his loyalty. He understands. You do not have to be careful. You can abuse him, neglect him, tolerate him. Best of all, you can keep still with him. It makes no matter. He likes you. He is like fire that purges to the bone. He understands. He understands. You can weep with him, sin with him, laugh with him, pray with him. Through it all—and underneath—he sees, knows and loves you.

A friend? What is a friend? Just one, I repeat, with whom you dare to be yourself."

Thank God for Unanswered Prayers!

If your prayers weren’t answered by yes,
Are you going to be hateful or grateful to God?

This year, a lot of things happened to us—good or bad. Of course, it is best to highlight the good things that happened this year. It reminds us that we are blessed by God. But do we even acknowledge the not-so-good things that happened to us?

The plans didn’t go our way.
The things we could only wish wouldn't happen.
The fair share of our misfortunes, mistakes, and misdeeds.

Why do we need to look back on it? It’s already happened. We must move forward. Why even bother?

Because of how we remember these things, we look back on how we responded to that situation, coped with the sudden changes, and reacted to it, which says a lot about our character and personality.

Because of these unfortunate things that happened, we learned how to be closer to God. We learned how to let go and surrender fully to Him. He changes us and molds us to be the best person so that we can bless other people. Sometimes, we need to go through it because the time will come when someone else needs it, and you’re going to be that person who can help him or her.

I know someday you’ll look back and say, “Thank you, Lord, for not letting it happen! Thank you for the unanswered prayers! Thank you, because you know what’s best for me.”

May we use these bad things that happened to us to be more prayerful to God. Ask Him for help. Be with spiritually strong people who will guide and lead you to become a better Catholic. Have the courage and patience to understand that better things will come. Despite all this, YOU are blessed. God has been with you all along.

I pray for your heart to be healed.

Thy will be done. 🙏

If you want next year to look different, you’ll have to move in ways you haven’t before. Be unrelenting in your determination, grounded in love-driven intentions, and inspired by the hard work that awaits you.⁣

The coming year isn’t just about objectives; it’s about honouring each step to reach them. It’s about a journey full of courage, discovery, growth, and expansion. Know that the path will come with just as many twists and turns, ups and downs as the prior years. But you are different. You are what will make the next twelve months count.⁣

Be ready to leave behind the beliefs that caused you to think small. Poise yourself for the powerful people you’ll encounter who will encourage you to dream big. Declutter your energy so you don’t get lost among low-vibrational days and moods. And above all, know that you are worthy. You are worthy of every imaginable success you put your mind to this coming year.⁣

As you lead the year with intention, live in alignment and conviction to your calling so that decisions come easy. Without overthinking, trust what feels right. Leave no space for insecurity, fears, and doubts. Stand in harmony with the person you want to become and surrender to the discomfort of tremendous transformation.⁣

And in between all the doing, take time to rest. Choose meaningful downtime that centres your energy, strengthens your focus, celebrates your experiences, and nurtures your relationships.⁣

Stay present with the here and now, but accumulate as much gratitude as possible for where you’ve been to propel you toward where you’re headed. You know more now than you ever have and possess a limitless capacity to curate the life you want in 2024.⁣

SHOOT TO MAKE IT!

This question comes from a reader named Mac, who shared this story with me:

"My dad and I love basketball. We used to play hoops in the front yard almost every day when I was growing up. He was also my coach for many years.

One thing that always stuck with me was him saying "shoot to make it." I think there's a lot of moments in basketball and in life where we are just "throwing a shot up" and hoping it goes in.

How I interpreted his mantra was to have intention. If you are going to take a shot, take a good one and take it to make it. I always come back to what he said when I'm evaluating decisions I'm making and actions I take.

Am I shooting to make it?"

"The way to live a full life is to act quickly.

Particularly as you grow older, it's alarmingly easy to let a year or two (or five) slip by without doing the big things you always felt like doing. You get into a rhythm—not necessarily one you love, but one you become comfortable repeating—and the grooves of your daily routine become deeper and more established.

Speed is perpetually undervalued. That doesn't mean you should feel frantic or rushed. In fact, it's likely you should eliminate some of the things that make you feel so busy to make space for things you always wanted to do. But it definitely means you should stop letting the days drift by waiting for the moment to be right.

Stop acting like there is infinite time. This—the way you are living right now—is your one life."

The 6th Stage of Grief

"...but Kessler talks about learning to remember those who have died with more love than pain and learning to move forward in a way that honors our loved ones."

Inhale God's love

"Maybe it’s true that, as the saying goes, you can never go home again. But you can take everything with you. Everything, including love.

And wherever you go next, it’s up to you to plant the seeds you carry. It’s up to you to water a brand-new garden.

For this week, consider asking yourself these three questions:

1. What or whom have you lost?
2. What are the ways that you still carry this person or culture with you? How do they continue to enrich you, comfort you, guide you? How can you “move forward” with them?
3. How might you plant the seeds you still carry – in other words, how can you manifest the legacy of your lost beloveds?

Be comfortable in your own skin.
Know who you are.

Understand deeply that what people do is never a reflection of you and is always their perception of life.

You are not for everyone and they are not always for you.

When you are not included, invited, or considered, whisper to yourself, “Thank you for the space necessary in my life for the people that matter most to me. I am blessed.” 🤍

Trying my best!

Trying my best!

Pursuing goodness has never been more necessary than it is now. On an individual and global level, we all could benefit from more kindness. In this simple but profound list of practices, we find a beacon of hope and a blueprint for a virtuous life.⁣

To want to be a good person is to embark on a path of self-discovery, empathy, and relentless growth. It can never lead you astray and will surely help those around you.⁣

Being good is not a grand, unattainable ambition. It’s a series of small, meaningful actions incorporated into our daily lives. By embracing simplicity and focusing on core values like kindness, empathy, and integrity, we make the journey toward goodness a manageable and rewarding endeavour. In doing so, we inspire others to join us on this path and collectively create a more compassionate and loving world.⁣

Creating your own list of what you consider “good” is a powerful and personal undertaking that can have a profound impact on your daily life. This process allows you to define your values, clarify your moral compass, and set a clear direction for your actions and behaviours. As you grow and evolve, your list may change, but it will always serve as a guiding light for living a values-driven life.⁣

Ultimately, the pursuit of goodness transcends our individuality and unifies us in our shared commitment to making the world a better place because we’ve made our individual lives more filled with peace, love, and deliberate kindness.⁣

"Darkness is simply the absence of light. You can’t push the darkness away. You can’t hide from it. Similarly, you can’t hide from depression, anxiety, self-hate, and more. And you don’t need to. The only thing you need to do is turn the light on. To let the sun shine in through the window. Whenever you feel like you are in darkness, just let light in through the window. You don’t need to escape or destroy the darkness. Just let in the light."

There are no shortcuts.
Basked in your emotions.
You are a human with feelings.
Feel every pain that you are experiencing.

Emotions.
They are not scary.
They just don't know what to do.

Trust me.
You will heal in time.
Make peace with your fears.
