I began this blog as a place to record my thoughts and opinions about various sub
jects, with a heavy focus on a few certain things I am quite against. These subjects are sensitive for some people, and I understand that. I wish to warn readers that the content here may be unpleasant and to continue at their own discretion. However, I hope to use my posts to provoke critical thinking, informed decision making, and hopefully a small change. These topics will include:
Multi Level Marketing – “MLM” for short (no, I’m not dedicating a blog to bash on Men Loving Men), also known as Network Marketing, Referral Marketing, or Direct Sales. These companies all share a very similar model of a very triangular shape. They are essentially a pyramid scheme, to put bluntly. Since pyramid schemes are illegal (which any consultant will immediately tell you if you try to say they’re in one), they use a legal loophole by marketing products. However, like a pyramid scheme, the main revenue focus is not through product sales, but through recruiting a “downline”, which consultants will earn a percentage of every sale done through the downline. No matter how hard they try, 99% of people who join MLMs only lose money. It’s a rabbit hole of sketchy and predatory practices, false claims, financial scams, tax fraud, lawsuits, and toxic mind conditioning. Religion – I was born and raised in a Christian family, but left the faith in my teens after seeking to find truth for myself and to challenge the teachings that were preached to me my whole life. The real world hit me hard, and accepting that I could no longer see God as truth was even harder. I am fortunate to have a family that accepts me for choosing my own beliefs and there is a mutual respect between us. There are a couple of exceptions to that, though. These are reasons why I’m keeping these thoughts on a blog separate from social media – I want to express certain opinions that I wish to not subject them to unwillingly while scrolling through their feeds. Cult Mentality– Tied in with the religion theme quite a bit, but also exploring the cult mindsets and mental conditioning used in other places as well, such as politics and businesses (and yes, MLMs too). Things are going to get VERY Anti-Trump/Anti-MAGA in here, fair warning. Toxic Positivity – In the age of social media, a growing trend is a constant message of constant positive thinking and denying negative thinking. While positive thoughts are certainly important and healthy, it is not healthy to push away all negativity in your life; these things need to be addressed in order to be resolved. Ignoring all problems and voices of concern is harmful to relationships with family and friends, and it’s harmful to the individual.
