Located in the port of Tampico and based on the industrial architecture of the 19th century, the building cost 1,850,000 gold coins and it was Porfirio Díaz who chose the English-cut design.

• 112 years have passed since Porfirio Díaz Mori (1830-1915), then President of the Republic, opened a customs terminal composed of a main building and attached warehouses. On the banks of the Pánuco River, in Tampico, Tamaulipas, that day in 1902 the project was completed, which had the busiest checkpoint in the country and was a short distance from the Gulf of Mexico.

• The Tampican customs zone existed since 1827 and the city grew around it. In 1829 the last attempt of the Spanish crown was defeated to reconquer Mexico, in the Plaza de la Libertad, where the first customs was.
• To expose the issue of the Buenos Aires defense, the archives area of the ex-Peruvian was reconditioned and opened in 2004 as the ‘La Victoria de Tampico Museum of 1829’, although with limited access to be in a federal perimeter. As of 2010, a comprehensive restoration and adaptation revived it for its new purposes, which could include, as intended by the state government and the town hall, the Museum of the Sea.
