“Peaceful” and “civil” protest is coded language used by people who don’t want us to protest at all, who want to police our speech, our outrage, our stories, our bodies. The bar will continuously be raised or lowered according to the level of freedom they want us to have.

“Just an FYI for people referencing the Civil Rights Movement as the ideal and legal means of protesting, students sitting in at lunch counters, in movie theaters, in bus terminals and marching in public parks were violating laws and ordinances and agents of the state were also called out to violently suppress these protests.” —

This morning, I’m thinking about the three-and-a-half years since Row House left my head and went onto official government papers; the publisher and career I left behind with no money in the bank or clue as to what was next; the friends and fellow-authors who rallied around me; the thousands of strangers who invested and gave; the 30+ books we’ve put out into the world since; the next 30 books waiting to bless future readers; the tears; the disillusionment; the rejection; the wins; the jumping up and down and falling to my knees over bestseller lists and starred reviews.

I’m thinking about the hills we climbed and the mountaintop that waits for us.

Row House was an idea just three-and-a-half years ago. Today it is a force or nurture. The ancestors dreamt it, the artists made it, the community carries it.

🏠 After a long, hard year of big wins and crushing losses, we are standing firmly on solid ground and inviting our community to join us as investor/owners. While donations are always welcome, we know that ownership is also meaningful. You can invest for as little as $300 all the way to $99,900, and it’s all handled easily and online through the Black-and-brown funded-and-founded equity crowdfunding platform .

We couldn’t have gotten this far without our community, and I pray you’ll join us for what’s next.

In gratitude and solidarity,

Shared from Row House .

Photos show pictures of students protesting on college campuses.

Image text: Our society tosses around words such as liberation, liberty, and equity as if they were stars fixed in the sky. But the recent responses of universities and colleges to the protests of young people against the genocide in Gaza - the very cohort they are entrusted to shape and empower — reveals a dissonance that cannot be ignored. My career as a writer is primarily focused on young minds, aiming not just to light their paths but to echo their voices in my work. It is my role, my duty perhaps, to listen and amplify their truths as they confront the gravest injustices.
One would hope that these houses of education would potentially do the same. That they might listen — learn. But no such thing has happened. Instead, student’s protests asking for their schools to divest from the right wing Israeli government’s colonial settler genocide has been met with silence, suppression, and police thuggery. It’s a moral imperative that we stand with the young people on the frontlines. Because what are we to make of a society that preaches liberty yet stifles its bravest defenders? Institutions that reprimand people for protesting against genocide are institutions that need not exist.

Today is World Book Day.

I am watching my country take my money to pay for the murder of children, the destruction of cultural sites, the halting of education, and the starvation of an entire people. I never feel qualified to speak on this topic, but I know education and I know books. They are erasing the written history of a people while destroying the people who pass down the oral history.

PLEASE READ, COMMENT & SHARE 🙏🏽🖤

Phew. It has been a long 12 months of super highs and the lowest lows, but we’re almost to the finish line—which means room for more ease, more creativity, more authors, more books, more raising the volume on voices that matter!

Our fundraiser didn’t make goal, and while that’s disappointing, we are buoyed by the love and commitment of our reader and creator communities. You helped us survive a seriously rough year, and for that we are forever grateful.

Will you help us sprint to the finish line with your financial support? Every dollar counts!

Who is Row House? We are the stories we tell.

We’re people who laugh when we’ve run out of tears to cry. We’re survivors of generational trauma, of poverty, of the feeling that we don’t belong.

We’re people who left high school early to work (we don’t call folks dropouts around here) but never stopped learning. We are young parents who defied the odds and rejected the stereotypes.

We are survivors, thrivers, leaders, innovators, revolutionaries. We’re your people. We are the new narrative.

Hey friends, it’s ya girl Rebekah (), founder and President of Row House Publishing. It’s been three and a half years since I wrote that post—42 months of real and worthy struggle—and I’m happy to say that it looks like nothing but blue skies are ahead for this community. Thank you for sticking with us. I’m so glad you’re here.

In its starred review for The Scrolls of Deborah, calls the debut work “a quiet triumph of biblical fiction” and an “exaltant biblical novel.”

Unveiling the ancient tableaus of the desert, The Scrolls of Deborah is a profound feminist retelling of the Book of Genesis that immerses readers in a breathtaking exploration of female relationships through the story of Biblical characters Rebekah and Deborah.

It is an available now, wherever books are sold, and at (link in bio).

Congratulations to !

“While the novel acknowledges hard realities, including era misogyny, slavery, the Akedah, and sexual assault, it does
so in an unobtrusive way; its focus is more celebratory.” —

As the mother of a trans child (and someone who believes all children are our children), I cannot wait for brand new Row House author Rebecca Minor’s book, Raising Trans youth. — Rebekah Borucki, founder & president

Please read and share this post and her words:

I am still processing my outrage at The New York Times for allowing such a misinformed piece to be published. Sadly, I am not surprised.

I’ve been inundated with messages from worried parents and caregivers who’ve been bombarded with this article, leading to painful questioning of their judgment and unwavering commitment to honoring their children’s identities.

This opinion piece stands not just as a misinformed publication but as a direct threat to the hard-won progress we have made in the field of gender-affirming care.

As a gender specialist, I am appalled at the blatant disregard for factual and compassionate reporting. We have fought tirelessly to ensure that trans youth have access to the medically necessary, life-saving care they deserve. Such care is not a luxury; it is a human right and a critical component of their well-being and survival.

I am profoundly grateful to for her timely and accurate reporting, which sheds light on the true implications of such harmful narratives. It is through the efforts of journalists like Erin that we can hope to dismantle the layers of misinformation and bias that threaten the safety and dignity of the transgender community.

I call upon my fellow professionals, allies, and advocates in the community to stand united against such dangerous rhetoric.

We must raise our voices, not only in defense of our work but in staunch support of the rights and dignity of trans youth. These young people and their families deserve a world where their identities are celebrated, their experiences validated, and their access to essential care unquestioned.

Please be sure to share these debunked myths and follow and subscribe to and .specialist for compassionate, factual and up to date information on gender-affirming care and anti-trans legislation in the US.

What a week! Thank you to the hundreds of you who donated over the past 36 hours. You’re part of what’s going to ensure the future of this house. We have a ways to go, AND we came so far today. We’re humbled.

And thank you for affirming that community is the ONLY way to accomplish these big audacious acts of disruption. It’s the whole reason we’re here—still breathing, still ready to keep the fire that we started with in 2020.

People said we couldn’t. And they tried to make that true. But they don’t know about us and what we came to do.

Please keep boosting and sharing with your friends.

We are so grateful for every bit of support our community has shown us over the past 24 hours. We are moving steadily toward our emergency goal, $1 at a time.

But we want to make an extra loud shout out to Black women, who have never received a dime in reparations yet continue to go so hard with their platforms and pocketbooks to lift us up.

This is true community. How we survive. How we will thrive.

Scroll through to find QR codes for our pay links or support our GoFundMe at SupportRowHouse.com. Our goal is to raise $250,000 to cover our cash flow emergency and create security for our creators.

For millennia, books have been vehicles for spreading knowledge and tools for liberation. That is the business we’re in, publishing the voices and stories that matter.

👉🏽 The Day God Saw Me as Black by D. Danyelle Thomas () is just one upcoming title that will benefit from your financial support.

The groundswell of engagement and advocacy we saw in 2020 has wained, but there are still enough of us left to make real and lasting change in this world.

Swipe through to find our pay links and a list of what’s at stake if we don’t succeed. Or visit or GoFundMe at SupportRowHouse.com (link in bio).

And remember: sharing is also currency. Let’s spread the word far and wide and reach the people who have been asleep but can afford to support.

Throwback to February 2021 — This is how it started.

In May 2018, I asked a top publishing executive why their publishing house didn’t have a more diverse author population, and this was their answer.

“We cater to an affluent audience.”

That’s not a difficult code to break.

Their disheartening, demoralizing response is only one reason I’m building something new, a publishing house with a model that guarantees transparent, equitable, and fair contracts for its authors.

And because we all want more books that make a real social impact and actually change lives in accessible, healthy ways, I need your help.

Back to today — We have experienced extraordinary growth since we launched online in Feb 2021. And with that explosive growth came a lot of good and a lot of obstacles, too.

Row House has become something bigger than I could have imagined, but that only tells me it’s time to imagine even bigger and more.

We built this house brick by brick. Let’s hold it up with the love of true community.

Please consider donating using the links in the slides. Or go directly to SupportRowHouse.com.

In gratitude and solidarity to the end and back,
