Over the last couple of years, digital-first publishing has become one of the most buoyant and innovative sectors in the industry. But the digital-first approach, where the publisher’s primary platform is digital rather than print products, has also seen significant changes emerge in the model of contractual relationships between publishers and authors.

In this session, we will explore the many exciting opportunities that digital-first publishing represents, and what it all means and requires for writers, publishers and agents. We’ll focus on the key information you need in order to navigate the digital-first landscape.

I work exclusively in nonfiction, in traditional and self-publishing projects. I also offer a hybrid mix of services for writers developing projects, and their writing processes and practice.

I have more than thirty years experience as an editor in publishing, newspapers and magazines, and, for the last twenty years, in writing development, mentoring and book coaching.

Delighted to be performing in this duet once again with the legendary saxophonist, Evan Parker. We'll be performing poems from my new collection (WTS) - Mouth Music - and from my novel Far Inland. This is a very special project for me as it combines the poetry performance with Evan’s saxes in a totally improvised setting. Really excited to be hosting the second of our XPONorth Tweet Pitch online events this Friday (7 Jan 2pm) with this session on How to Pitch Your Work with leading literary agent, Jenny Brown, and the amazing crime writer, Alison Belsham.
This event will give writers insights into how to pitch their work - for the Tweet Pitch and generally - and both Jenny Brown and Alison Belsham bring a wealth of experience in terms of understanding what agents and publishers look for in a pitch and what sparks and holds their interest. This session will look at the preparations, techniques and approaches writers should employ when preparing their pitch.
A great way for Scotland's writers to start the New Year - and don't forget the big day - XPONorth's Tweet Pitch 2022 takes place on Friday 21st January.
