Robin is founder and operator of Pacific US Magazine (). He is making waves in highlighting the Polynesian Community.

When asked about his experience, this is what he had to say:

"The people of the Pacific are currently living during a diaspora. As a first generation Tongan, born and raised in the U.S., it was extremely challenging navigating between Pacific Islander culture in an American setting. I’ve been breaking the stereotype of what people considered to be “Polynesian” since I was a kid and I plan to continue to do that.

The Polynesian community has definitely received a lot of praise for excelling in athletics. However, I was never passionate about sports. People tend to try and stereotype Polynesians as athletes with a big physique and I’m neither of those things. So I’ve worked my whole life trying to help others redefine what they think a Polynesian is."

Thank you Robin for your willingness to forward the cause of equality.

"I don’t operate in mutually exclusive spheres of justice issues.⁣

If I’m advocating for climate justice, I’m also advocating for racial justice, the rights of people with disability, feminism, LGBTQ2S+ rights and many more.⁣

Far too often we like to pit activists against each other when we’re talking about our own struggles. Our struggles are not mutually exclusive. In fact, a lot of the time, we’re fighting against the systems of oppression that perpetuate the subjugation of environments and their people.⁣

And when we fight for intersectional justices issues, we are not denouncing the struggles of other marginalised people per se. We are realising the interconnectedness of systems.⁣

Long before embarking on my own journey of understanding my struggles and experiences with racism, I was having a conversation with a friend about how I didn’t want to take up space in the conversations around racial injustice. It was at that point where my friend said “this isn’t the oppression olympics”. That was a MAJOR turning point in realising, that while *yes* I must address my privileges as a light-skinned WOC, we are all trying to dismantle the same systems that oppress marginalised people. The same systems that every single justice issue is inextricably linked to.⁣

So please, in whatever fight you are fighting, please realise that we are ultimately trying to achieve the same thing. When our Black communities are fighting for their rights, as environmentalists we *must* recognise that their struggle is hinged on environmental justice.⁣

Everything is interdisciplinary and intersectional."⁣
